Hi Dakka,

I'm running a campaign for my FLGS and I've run into a problem with one player in particular. The campaign has been running for 6 weeks now, every weekend, and in talking to the players who have played against this person, none of them like his play style. He is seen as being a WAAC player, a guy who nit-picks the rules, and is not interested in the story-telling portion of the game. Normally, this is not a problem for my playgroup because those who cannot handle that playstyle don't play him during casual games. However, for the campaign games I assign player vs. player games based on storytelling needs and play level/rewards earned from completing various secondary missions in different battles.

Basically, I'm wondering if I should approach him and let him know how his playstyle is affecting the group? If I should, can anyone suggest good opening lines/remarks, and ways that he can modify his style/attitude while still making this campaign fun for him?

If you need more information or details, just ask! Thought I'd let the wisdom of my fellow dakkites help me on this one!

It doesn't sound like a good mix & he is making everyone else miserable. Have a talk with him and if he doesn't come around then eject him.

Kick him in the nuts!

Seriously. WAAC players shouldn't be allowed to breed.

But, failing violence and forceful sterilization...

Do what GBF said. Have a talk with him. If he doesn't realize that the idea of a campaign is a lengthy storytelling narrative, with fun involved...

THEN go back to Plan A.

Man, I hope H.B.M.C. doesn't show up. You just gave credit everything he preaches on the subject in a single post.

Anyway, I agree with GBF, talk to the dude. You can't make people enjoy a good story, and if he doesn't want to play along then you have little choice. Explain to him that the players aren't going to be taking the games too seriously and he could find a better challenge else-where.

Oh, I know. I hate WAAC players. There are some I can stomach(ones who only do it for tournaments, for example)...but the ones who bring a WAAC list to a friendly game are just bleh.

All of us casual gamers are screwed now...

Still, just talk to him. If he really isn't in to it, tell him it would be more challenging to play somewhere else.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.
