Today is the last day of this year. It is the latest in a series of last days, and on this annual last day I am again unable to sleep. I've been unable to sleep on every one of these annual last days since I awoke to the immensity of the concept. On this last day in particular I was struck with the observation that all this finality is very arbitrary. This day is only final in the eyes of a human because a human said it should be. 'Why would we impose such laws?' It isn't but a short chain of logical jumps before I'm left, yet again, admiring the vast, grand and wondrous machinations humans use in an effort to impose order on what is apparently chaos. Of course, faced with the scale of these plans inevitably leaves me feeling finite, insignificant and otherwise melancholy.

So, Dakka, how does the end affect you?

It doesn't.

Besides, there is more vacant space within an atom than it's content. therefore in the Universe, there is considerably more 'nothing' than there is 'something'.

Me, I shall continue to blunder my way through my finite time upon this world before shuffling off and my existence ceases to be, returning me to being more nothing.

I get to leave early. By my count there's only going to be three people in the office.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

It doesn't.

Aside from work being nice and quite it's a total non event. I find it incredibly difficult to get worked up over completely arbitrary and ultimately meaningless limits.

Somewhere in south-central England.

It means I eat tempura and soba noodles for dinner and o-sechi cuisine for breakfast.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Forever alone

Just another year. No different from all the other New Years I've experienced. People get drunk, someone's house gets trashed, and we get some pretty fireworks.

Nice and simple.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
