Are 5 lootas any good? I am trying to squeeze some lootas into my list but can barely find the points to do it. Its a footslogging list with 20 stormz,10 kommandos, Grotsnik,Biker boss, 86 boyz,16 grotz

Nope, don't bother with anything less than 15. Sometimes 10 can do it, but usually they'll end up running away. 5 Lootas are not going to do any meaningful damage, and they are a really easy killpoint.

I guess i just won't fit the lootas in then until i go to higher points. Lootas would be a great addition to my army though as it would just be one more distraction to shoot at.

I'd personally get rid of some Stormboyz to make room.

Lootas are amazing, and those Jump Infantry aren't going to be able to wipe out a Daemon Prince on the first turn the way I see my friend's Lootas do!

That's true, but they can probably kill him on round 2... Round 1 if he moves forward first.

In answer to the original question, lootas, like all orks, work best when they have a few boyz at their back. The closer you put them to 10 or less, the more likely you are to see them run, and when they run, that doesn't help you. Keep your boyz as close to max as possible, or suffer.

5 lootas will earn their points back, handily I might add, if they aren't attacked. However, given that they are a low body-count kill point, do massive amounts of damage for their point cost, and are extremely easy to kill, they'll likely be targeted, eliminated, and put back in your box before they accomplish much.

I'll respond to your army list question with more.

Turn 2 might have seen them get hit with the Lash or god knows what.

Orks have the CC covered, particularly in the list in the OP. You'd be happy to have those Lootas if you run into Mech Armies.

I'm just saying there's a few things in your list you could trim out to make room for 12-15 Lootas.

They would die or run away, at the accurate time when your opponent want.

I am only keeping stormboyz on because they are my favourite model, otherwise i would have gone with lootas.

You know, that actually happened to my Chaos friend. He moved his Prince, thought they were shoota boyz (his opponent proxies like crazy) and was like "HA! You're dead!" Then his opponent rolled a 6 for shooting. the prince got absolutely owned.

On topic, I agree with the taking out Stormboys, make it at least a 10-man loota squad.

yep. The last team tournament I was in, my buddy was using lootas and disrespected a Daemon Prince on the first turn. "Here's 14 wounds for you."

The effective squad size is probably dependent the number of points you're playing.

In a 750 match, I had two squads of 8 that did wonders. Killed a demon prince, popped a rhino, killed most of the Chaos Space Marines inside, and eventually did for some Obliterators. They were nicely in cover, and had nice fire lanes.

In higher points games I'd probably stick with 10 man squads minimum.

I've used 5 lootas squad several times because I don't have more than 5 lootas built. It's only been tested against Tau but they seem to last for awhile though they don't always do what I want them to.

I will never start a loota squad outside of cover. I've been lucky to have ruins within my deployment zone everytime.
