In an effort to keep on top of my progress and comments... a more timely update! (but smaller...)

@Casey's Law: Thanks for the confidence!

@lone dirty dog: More brush strokes for you further down

@SelvaggioSaky: The original plan calls for all of the armour in Deffwing white/bone with details picked out, any raised icons will be Dark Angels Green on red - very similar to actual Deathwing. I don't know if you remember this guy?

I may change some of the dags/teef plates to Dark Angels Green if I think it looks too boring or same-y. I expect everyone will have an opinion about that when we get there

@Camkierhi, cormadepanda, CommissarKhaine: Thanks again!

And now, lone dirty dog's brush strokes of the day - 1:1 Graveyard Earth / Desert Yellow (actually, with 1:1 Gloss Varnish and water too...)

Can you even tell the difference? (Though, not helped by doing a all in one shot...) The amusing thing is (to me anyway) - it's when I *can* tell the difference (well, in a non subtle Orky way) that I know I haven't thinned down enough or mixed closed enough to the previous colour. I can do a 1:1 transition here. When it comes to Bleached Bone - I know from painful experience I'll need to step through 2:1, 1:1 and 1:2...

Catchya!

Your attention to subtlety in shade makes me cry. I can see it in the end results, they are simply perfect. I wish I had your patience.

These guys will be some of the most amazing models I have ever seen, when done.
You take your time dude, don't rush, forget the competition. Because if you finish these in time, we are all just runners up. (not that I stand an earthly of placing.) LOL

Mmm... Being color deficient is soo much fun. I see Brown, and then the same shade of Brown for highlights, and then a wash of, guess what! The same shade of Brown.

Bleh. Wish I could actually see the subtleties everyone's raving about. I got the same problem with Ork skin, too.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

If yer an Ork, why dont ya WAAAGH!!

The subtlety will become more apparent as it progresses, but we need more paint although don't rush these are way to cool to ruin with a poor paint job

I agree about not rushing it, they are definitely too good to not give them your best. I'm sure you've already taken that into account though. They look brilliant, I really wish I had the patience for all of these layers.

A very subtle difference . In all seriousness, unless the lighting is constant throughout all your pics, spotting these rather sutble thing is beyond me. And I agree: if you can spot it, it needs more blending!

@Camkierhi: It makes me cry too... I console myself that I will get many years of pleasure gaming with them... and no, I won't rush them - though unless I get some serious progress this weekend, I'm fairly confident I won't make it at this stage... (for the competition)

@Anvildude, CommissarKhaine: I have enough troubles seeing the difference IRL, let alone the photos - which (as CommissarKhaine mentioned) - is probably more affected by inconsistent lighting than anything else. I show them to Da Boss, and she will pick the one with less layers as the more advanced *every* *single* *time*. So its not just you. Just ignore the pics/blog until I'm done

@lone dirty dog: Indeed. Tonights last pic will hopefully be more enlightening!

@Casey's Law: Noted thrice over I don't think I know *how* to rush...

@wib: Well you are in luck then!

So, previously we were at 1:1 Graveyard Earth/Desert Yellow...

Desert Yellow layer - Light'nin Klaws

Desert Yellow layer - Waaagh! Machine

2:1 Desert Yellow/Bleached Bone layer - Waaagh! Machine

Attempt to show the difference between layers - not much success here...

2:1 Desert Yellow/Bleached Bone layer - the whole gang!

Now we're talking - 1:1 Desert Yellow/Bleached Bone layer and edge highlighting - Waaagh! Machine. Starting to take on the more bone white colour of the finished product and less the brown/yellow we have been building up through.

Catchya!

@CommissarKhaine: Aye aye sir!

@Casey's Law, SelvaggioSaky, inmygravenimage: Thanks!

@inmygravenimage, cormadepanda: There is a Trukk for them somewhere around here - I think finishing up the Trukks might be my next project... (well, and painting Morgrim and entourage). I'd love to give them a battle wagon, but that might just have to wait for now...

@cormadepanda: OSL for the eyes? I assume you mean the ones behind helmets/targeters - not just ordinary Nobz eyes? Don't know - it's a technique I haven't played with yet...

Small update:

1:1 Desert Yellow/Bleached Bone - da whole mob!

2:1 Bleached Bone/Desert Yellow - da whole mob - spot da difference... (no, don't, that was meant to be tongue in cheek )

It should get faster from here, as I need to concentrate on the edges only... mostly... until I finish the armour anyway...

Coming together nicely! With so much practice doing the armour, you should do a Deathwing army as well

Yeah - I have the 4 of the Dark Vengeance Deathwing undercoated and ready to go - they were meant to be practise... (you may have caught snippets of them in the backgrounds of my photos...)

Will do - after a slight distraction...

Thanks! Welcome! And well done! It's not a Mantis Warrior thread, but it's still a bit to get through...

Thanks!

Right, onto business. The following were completed some time ago...

Waaagh! Machine - factory condition armour complete.

Light'nin Klawz same.

Predatork same.

Thunda'amma same.

...and from the other side.

Gobs same.

Waaagh! Machine - decal.

...and other side (and decal).

Thunda'amma decal.

Light'nin Klawz decal.

Next steps - weathering - specifically, chipping and rust. But that's on hold while I work on my entry for:

Enter the Dakka Painting Challenge: 'Two Tickets to Paradiso' today!

I've been working flat out since the competition was announced and have just finished the "build", just in time to undercoat tomorrow, and then the race is on to complete the painting by the 1st of July. Hopefully I'll have more luck finishing than I had with Comrade and Papa's Round 4 :The Brotherhood round:.

Catchya!

And the Meganobz look brilliant! Such quality painting will have the other DPC entrants worried. I think you are the first to use that little readymade banner too, although I can't see sigs on Dakka's mobile theme. I better put it in mine actually...
