How much measuring are you allowed to do during deployment. I know the rules say that you can't measure if the rules don't ask you to, but then it also says under measuring distances on page 3, under examples: ... when deploying their forces, etc)

So then I took a look at deployment rules, and they don't really give much more info. I have 3 possible intepretations:

1.
- You can measure anything you want during deployment, including ranges to enemy units or places on the board

2.
- You can only measure up your DZ to make sure units stay inside it (& unit coherency?)

3.
- 2 + You can check stuff like if you are within Avatar bubble etc. - you can measure anything involving units in your DZ

I'm thinking that 2 may be the right answer, but it also seems that any of the others could be right?

You can only measure to ensure you are inside your deployment zone, as that is the only explicit measurement you are allowed to take.

You can also measure distances for Infiltrate, to ensure your deployment is legal.

Indeed, forgot infiltrate. In addition Scouts must remain >12" away, so you must measure to ensure of that.

And, I assume, unit coherency.

I know this may not be 100% R.A.W. but most people where I live allow you to measure anything concerning your units in your deployment zone, as well as scouts / infiltrate.

Generally accepted things that aren't explicitly R.A.W. are:

Range of a radius buff such as Synapse.
---- this means measuring the radius NOT measuring from the synapse creature to other units. (I.E. pull out 12" on the measuring tape & sweep it in a circle from the creature, no more than the distance of the effect.)

Unit Coherency

Within 2" of a transports embarkation point.

and a few other special cases I can't think of atm.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

I personally dont care what you measure in regard to how your army is set up.
The only thing I do mind is measuring ranges to my units, measuring how far I am from objectives etc.
That Ruler stays in your deployment zone not mine.

#2 is probably the way WAAC and RAWheads would play, I personally play #3.

I wouldn't make a fuss about an opponent measuring anything to do with their units or their deployment zone.
I'd draw the line at measuring distances to objectives or opposing units. basically, as long as the tape measure doesn't leave their deployment zone, anything is fair game.
If I was deploying infiltrators I would place them and then allow my opponent to check if they were allowed where I wanted them, and if they weren't I would move them until they were happy I was 12" away.

I only ever play for fun though, so the more competitive of you might disagree with me.
