A friend of mine wants to start a chapter of desert-centric Marines. However, I can't think of any chapters specializing in desert combat. Even after searching Lexicanum, all I could come up with were the Desert Lions, who were only in a WD bit of fluff from 1988. So, any suggestions? I'm aware he can start a DIY chapter, but it would be cool if he could have a chapter with some established fluff and a paint scheme.

If you read the Heresy novels there was a pre-luna wolves chapter called the Dusk Raiders that sounded somewhat desert-ish... if you don't mind making a pre-heresy chapter. *edit upon rereading op*

ok my bad... still some members of the deathguard stayed loyal (and probably formed the deathwatch or grey knights right?) but couldn't some of them have gone on to re form the dusk raiders?

They became "Grey Knights" before it was what it is now (all psychers, specializing in killing Daemons). The Deathwatch are the Astartes component of the Ordos Xenos. They're the most veteran warriors pulled from every near-by chapter for whatever hyper dangerous mission that needs doing. The squads get labeled Kill Teams, and their armor is painted completely black except for the left (?) shoulder which bares their chapter heraldry.

And no, they wouldn't have. The original "Grey Knights" got wiped out, and I believe the Grey Knights were founded in honor of them.

Yeah I was just trying to make a possible tenuous basis for making a Dusk Raiders chapter based off the somewhat ambiguous end to the Flight of the Eisenstein.

The Sons of Medusa have a desert support squad and they fought on Badab.

The white scars aren't bad for desert raiding either, I suppose, with their use of bikes.

Yeah, do a successor chapter to the White Scars!

Fluff=Game related material describing the world that has little to no effect on game play, but still enhances the gaming experience.

I would think something like the White Scars would be good. Could base some of the concept around the Afrika Corps or something in that region/time frame as far as general unit types taken and tactics. Maybe even desert camo styles too. There are plenty of deserts in the Imperium, so no reason to not make a chapter for them.

no chapter is specialized in specific combat types (regarding place of fight) but he can make his own chapter based around an army of WW2 or modern times, and create some fluff about it.

Besides that, he can choose from the list of chapters that fought in the wars on Armageddon.
