So I'm making this thread for people to share their creative counts-as in 40k. Whether it's because your current Codex doesnt really allow for a fluffy army with many options *cough* Chaos*cough* Or you just thought of a wicked cool conversion, made it, and now want to throw that dude on the table with some cool rules to back him up? I'll start first...

Recently I was thinking about using a Word Bearers based army and thought the lash prince could just be a DP that was some kind of dark evangelist that could sort of hypnotise the enemies. Not too far off what lash does right?? Or you could have an undivded army with cool looking banner holders with pictures on them that kind of hints to the icon's power, but didn't need to be dedicated to one type of God. These could work, which is pretty cool about 40k that you can do these kinds of things...so lets share some creative ideas on one of the best parts of 40k! (counts-as)

I think counts as is wonderful thing, as long as it isn't abused. With some of the more complicated conversions out there, it can be hard to maintain WYSIYG. But, as long as you can come up with a good explanation for why things do what they do, I'd say you;re in the clear.

Personally, at some point I'd like to do a World Eaters army using the SW codex. Lots of Blood Claws, TWC, whatever else i can think of...

Depends. if you have something from another army. no way.
Also no subistutuions for vehicles that dont have proper dimension. ex. No coke can drop pods. paper ones fine.
but it just seems outragous I will just get annoyed.Part of the fun is haveing a table full of models fighting. Not poker chip terminaters fighting dime csm.

-to many points to bother to count.

As Garret said. If they are within reason why not? As long as it is explained and agreed upon before game and pointed out correctly I don't see a problem.

I agree with keeping it reasonable. No little green army men (non-Catachan of course) or random junk left on the painting station as Marine Captains or a squad of Sister Repentias. (Becasue if you want your shame on full display then dammit, model those sisters and watch 'em get whooped with pride!)

I've been thinking about this topic as well. I'm not a big fan of Ab humans in the IG. I was thinking about using Cadian snipers as stand ins for Ratlings. I was also thinking about using some Incursion APE figs for Ogryns after some mods. Do people usually have issues with things like that?

Gathering the Informations.

Probably not, but the Incursion APE figs would have issues in official events either way(being non-GW).

I was thinking of buying some 1:35 scale modern soviet tanks to convert for my space marines. But I don't play in tournaments so it probably would never be a problem for me. I don't like the coke can= drop pod either though. At least have SOME kind of model.

Me, to my neighbor. "He can Doom AND Guide every round? I hate Eldar."

My most beloved army is the Genestealer Cult. Since they havn't had a codex since 2nd ed, I use them purely as count as Tyranids. Here are a few things I've found makes it easier.

I try to keep each unit somewhat similar in size to the model it represents, currently I'm building a tervigon out of a rhino for example. Trickiest part of this is to make human-size models, wich I have plenty of, about as tall as a tyranid warrior. I'm experimenting with very scenic bases.

I try to keep the counts as within reasonable fluff limits. A player who knows some about the background for stealer cults should feel familiar with the way the rules are interpreted. It is reasonable that a stealer magus acts like a zoanthrope, it is not reasonable that it acts like a pyrovore.

I try to be consequent. Things like "all missile launchers count as Barbed Stranglers". And when I feel ambitious I even add small pictures to the army list I hand to my opponent, to help him identify the bunch of dirty civilians that counts as termagants.

So far all my opponents have been delighted to fight against my counts as list, although I have not taken it to any big tournaments.

I use WHFB skeletons in my daemon army, and tyranid bits and IG bits. Daemons can be everything.

I have a tervagon rhino conversion and everybody loves it

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

I use the old Cultist and Redemptionists models for my 69 Lesser Daemons in my Word Bearers army.

My Rough Riders in my Forgeworld based Guard are Cyber-Mastiffs converted with plasma muzzles.

I'm planning on doing a counts-as army for some certain bat-winged helmeted guys with a crap codex using a soon-to-be-released codex.

All for (reasonable) Counts -as!
