I got up early on my one day off this week to go to GW and pick up Battle Missions, anybody else had a chance to thumb through it yet?
I've just spent the last hours and a bit reading it cover to cover, and I'm fething impressed over all! I wasn't expecting it to be this good, although I havn't had played any games using it yet. A few of the missions seem a little similar, and most of them are just "Sieze Ground + 1 Special rule" they look like welcome addition, and I don't think anyone is going to complain at an elevenfold increase in variety for games.

Both Witch and Deamon Hunters aren't included in it, and there are no specific missions for each SM codex, although there is mention that they will be making more and publishing them in White Dwarf and on GW's website.

Another thing I noticed was on pg 79 (anyone else who has a copy), Is that a new ethereal model? I'm not overly familiar with Tau, but I don't recognise it.

What does anyone else who's looked through it have to say about? I can imagine some of the missions being a little unbalanced, but there's not one mission in the book I wouldn't want to give a go a couple of times. Am I just getting over excited at finally having such a wealth of variety? Or is everyone else just as impressed as me?

I've played Blitzkrieg and first contact, both very fun.

And that does look like a new etheral, now if they could get some new rules....

I'm unimpressed. I looked through the tau missions today (it was the store copy, so I didn't want to read it cover to cover), and they were pretty lame. As gorechild said, most of them are the basic missions + a special rule or special scenario. Honestly, one of them is basically annihilation where tau go first most of the time, and skimmers come in from reserve differently. How exciting. I could come up with more interesting scenarios myself. I even have 2 scenario ideas that I'm trying to develop into playable rulesets.

It's adequate.

I wasn't blown away, but it is what it advertised it was.

I would have liked a modified KP system, a set of stratagems for use in regular scenario play, etc. but whatever...

Tau missions are quite boring, I liked the Tyranid ones the best, so I'm happy. Also quite up for messing about with Kill Team again, despite the simplified rules

I did a quick overview of all the missions yesterday. It's over in 40K discussions.

pp79, not a new Ethereal. If memory serves, that's the limited edition one from the Tau Empire Spearhead/Army set. (the second one, not the original one)

Played the Kill Team mission this afternoon w/ my son. We amended it to "205pts' because that allow a basic 5 man terminator squad w/ H. flamer... He gave sgt. furious charge and heavy flamer feel no pain. One fo the other terminators had preferred enemy(orks).

I gave Nob eternal warrior.

I had 25 orks with a nob(P. klaw and h. armour) and two big shootas....

I ended up forcing him to run...

It was a nice quick variant way to play.

We ave plans to revert to straight 200pts. next time as he has an idea for a tactical squad based kill team...

The kill team stuff is a good laugh and nice for a quick rumble.
I don't want to be one of these people that winges on about how much better things were in the old days but I really miss the "here's how to make your own ...." sections that RT had. I know there are a few paragraphs at the back about how to make your own missions but I'd have been far happier to have some skeleton missions you could flesh out with what ever points you had around.

It'll be nice to see if any of the new codexes on the horizon break any of the missions tho.
