Drop Trooper with Demo Charge
|
Hello i am having a problem facing a horde ork player with my mech imperial guard army
Its not because i dont have the firepower to bring him down ( i have 2 manticores, a plasmacutioneer, a hellhound, 6 chimeras, a vendetta, PSB and 5 vet squads. Every vehicle has a hull mounted heavy flamer). The problem is the way he positions his units.
This is how he moves his units. Each colour represents a different unit. They move like trains towards me and when i fire upon them he just removes the models in the back making his advance somewhat unstoppable. With a kustom force field and 2" i am having a hard time killing all of the boyz before i get charged by an angry warboss + 3-4 Nobz.

Yea, KFF horde is a beast.
But if I remember correctly it grants a cover save. So anything that ignores cover is going to negate it. Flamers obviously, but don't you have some ordinance that ignores cover too?

what you need to do is move ur tanks forward as he moves and concentrate all fire on one squad then the next. this way you will be taking numerous amount out each turn, the key is to not stay stationary... tank shock if you must!

He can't take out the ones from the back if it's another unit, right? So start on the front unit, shoot it until it falls apart and start on the next. The KFF is only e 5+ cover, that's not too much.

Take a platoon infantry squad (or two) and stretch the models in a 2" line in front of your other units. They'll get assaulted and die, and buy you an extra turn to fire your guns at the orks.

It might even be worth investing in white shields. Enough bodies to not take a test from random shooting, but guaranteed to fold and flee. Plus, you can chain the 20 models enough to actually cover an entire gun-line.

Are your veterans mounted. If he gets first turn and sets up like this, deploy heavily on one side, then concentrate all fire on the nerest unit. The other two 'trains' will either have to wheel to face you or abandon their 'column' idea

The easiest solution is to go Hybrid. I only have a single Manticore (the other's a basilisk) and I can kill more than 60 orks in a single turn. Plus, sacrificial PCS with 4 flamers only cost 50 pts. which he has no choice but to assault and further delay getting to your main gunline. Special weapons squad on board pod valkyries hate orks as well. It doesn't matter if he has a 5+ save, using Hybrid means you have more than enough models and guns (usually numbering over 100 models).

Make him pay for everything he kills. Block him as much as possible with sacrificial vehicles, and then counter-attack with heavy flamers. If he assaults a vehicle it should leave him nice and bunched up so you can bring the pain. Also early on try to focus on killing a single unit at a time to get rid of the power klaws. Since you have a PBS, if you can get one unit to 10 or less you can weaken resolve them and they'll flee right off the board. Since the unit will be under half, they cannot rally. If you want to get real cheeky, You can try to outflank the vendetta with a squad and use it to assault the orks from behind. This forces them to move backwards to react to the assault. If you can somehow survive for one phase, you have just set them back significantly. You're not going to kill him before he gets to you. Just hang in there and keep grinding him down. It seems like a daunting task but those orks will die eventually.
