Who do you think the ultimate close combat figure is? Can be from any army, and have any wargear, just not warhammer fantasy, obviously.

My personal favorite CC figure would be the skulltaker, on foot, chariot or juggernought its just something about rolling 4+ to instakill/rend

I tend to favor Ghazgrul Thraka. 5 attacks, 7 on charge. all with a power claw and ws5.

Yeah, Failadon is the lord and master. Skulltaker is cool, but if I'm not mistaken, he doesn't have a power weapon unless he rends. Granted if he rends he instant kills, but against Eternal Warriors that's worthless.

You know what though? I think the Swarm Lord makes a good showing. With the Swarmlord on the charge, using Paroxysm and Furious Charge, he'll inflict 2.05 wounds. Failaddon will return 1 wounds when he rolls 2 for his weapon, and 1.65 when he rolls a 6. The Swarmlord will kill him on the following round, and he is left with 1 wound.

When Abaddon is on the charge (and the Swarmlord's abilities aren't active) he inflicts 1.75 wounds and 2.75 when he has 2 and 6 attacks respectively. The Swarmlord returns a respectable 1.3 so the best Failaddon can do is die simultaniously with the Swarmlord. However the Swarmlord is missing Eternal Warrior, so he is vulnerable to Force Weapons, the Skulltaker, and their ilk.

Between Alpha and Omega, and a little to the left

Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. Why? because he's 2++ on the Waagh! making simply eventually invincible on both players turn. that means by the time he loses that invincibility he would have thrown 12 S10 power attacks (assuming he was on the charge anyway).

DarkHound, Skulltaker is gifted with a Hellblade which functions as a Power Weapon.

I'd have to say Ku'gath is one of the best CC characters. Defensive grenades, WS 6, S6, T6, W6, A 5, 4++ and FnP, wounds on a 2+, re-rolls wounds if strength is higher than enemy toughness, and Eternal Warrior.

Or course he's quite expensive, but combined with his shooting attacks, he'll make his points back everytime

He would be awesome if that's how his ruling worked. He does not, however, get +1 attack for everything in contact with him; if he chooses, he can replace his Attacks characteristic with the number of models in B2B contact with him. That being said, he does have 6 attacks, hits on 3+ always, and rerolls either wounds or hits in CC. Plus, he's pretty cheap compared to the rest of the Wolves' special characters. Toss him in a squad of TWC, and he will do some damage.

I think any of the Chaos SCs fall into the ultimate CC unit. Abbadon is excellent, and Kharn is a pretty beastly character. (Who, at our FLGS, flipped a Land Raider on turn 2 the first game he was ever fielded)

It's obviously a Furiouso Librarian Deadnought with Might of Heros now.

S10 with up to 7 attacks on the charge that is immune to anything S6 or less and can be I5 if it has FC.

Not that I'm an expert, but I think the current order goes something like this:

1. Abbadon. So many damn attacks as S8, plus EW.
2. Nightbringer. Mainly because he ignores invulnerable saves and is T8.
3. Swarmlord. Paroxysm and forcing re-rolls with his ID sabres.

Ghazghkull is an absolute beast but falls behind due to his temperamental invulnerable save and the fact that he strikes at I1. Mephiston is sounding rather scary, I'm looking forward to seeing his actual stats and powers when the codex comes out.

Lord of slaanesh with wings and a daemon weapon. 4attacks =d6 on the charge with a power weapon that causes instant death at initiative 6. Eats nobs and characters for breakfast.

Haha. It's also S4, T4, with a 5+ invulnerable save. Not even close to being a CC monster.

I could be wrong but the way i just read the codex in the thunderwolf entry is that you dont get rending if you use any sort of special CCW, so his wolf claws would negate it small point and he is pretty good IMHO.

Still, I like my GK grand master, I dont give a if you have eternal warrior you're dead anyway

From what i've played against. Either abbadon or the swarmlord would have a nice shiny crown. Soon however the blood angels might have something to change that...

True, but the WCs basically make Rending pointless anyway; they deny saves on every roll, instead of just on 6s. Plus, he's already S5, so he can actually do damage to vehicles on 6s.

People have mentioned Kharn, he is wonderful - S6 on the charge with 7 attacks, hitting on 2s and killing on 2s he can reliably kill 5 enemies, or 4 non-SS termis, before they hit.

Just dont run him into combat with any friends

Abbadon vs. Ghazghkull is fairly close, but Abbadon usually wins with ~1 wound left. The odds are better for Ghazghkull if he gets the charge, but not by a whole lot.

As for Mephiston; A friend of mine who's seen the codex and I have run the math a couple of times for Mephiston vs. Ghazghkull. Basically, the odds are on Mephiston's side if he gets the charge, and against him if he doesn't. Even if he wins, it's closer than Abbadon vs. Ghazghkull is.

I LOLed. I don't know if this started on /tg/ or what, but failbaddon has always amused me.

Personally I think swarmlord is king. Generally rerolling 3+ to hit, wounding on 2+, rerolling successful invuln and causing ID. Ghaz is a favorite for the turns that his 2++ is going though.

Mephiston isn't bad but doesn't really impress me. Strength 10 and good init and force weapon, but doesn't reroll invulns and so could be taken on by Ghaz or an Archon.
