I run them, they generaly take out 2 tanks, then die. About 1/1 points ratio, but not amazing, are they worth it? Also I never take tank hammers, is there a reason to?

By and large, no. They are not worth it from what I've seen.

Unless you are facing Nidzilla or whatever variation they have now. Then they can shoot at whatever they wish.

They might be useful against Mech IG as well, where the target saturation is so high it doesn't really matter what vehicle you have them fire on.

Saying that, I'm a new to 40K so take my post with a grain of salt.

Tactically, Tankabusta require finesse from an ork player to be used properly.

Always attempt to keep them out of LOS of any tank unless within rokkit launcha range. That ensures they do not waste a turn shooting nothing for all intents and purposes.

They have bomb squigs which are a really good way to create a dead zone for enemy vehicles thay would not want to get within 18" of the tankabustas.

Otherwise, they are solid versus nonmechanized armies such as tyranids who sport MCs.

Unfortunately, using an elite slot for Tankabustas is a slot not used for Lootas, which are the superior version of Tankabustas in many respects with very little downside.

True, the ting is you want them to be shooting at tanks, so auto prioritizing them over other units is generaly not terrible. There two main advantages over lootas is that they can move and fire, and strength 8 ap 3 gun.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

They would be alright without Glory Hogs, but that really affects their overall usefulness. The standard response is, "But I want them to shoot vehicles anyway!" Really? When the only vehicle is a drop-pod or a weaponless, immobilized rhino and there's all those Marines to kill? It's a dumb rule and makes them too hit or miss.

If its a KP game, awesome! If its anything else, why the hell are they still alive? If all your opponent has left is a Drop-Pod, or a messed up Rhino, then they've done their job. The game will still come down to the boyz cleaning up after they open the cans.

Seconded...

If more of us valued food and cheer and 40K over hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
