Another WIP... using the AOBR warboss as the basis. He will have his feet returned, I've removed them as I want to add a little more height to him. The Claw will remain but he'll get a new head and I'm still thinking about what to do with the gun arm..

Ok. managed to work a little today and thought I'd post some updates. These are WIP and far from finished... well... Kapt's face, hat and arms are finished the rest is WIP... my camera is pretty crappy but did the best with what daylight still remained... And comments are appreciated.

Great skin tone! You and i have common techniques man, like really really common. I too love to paint in darker tints, its evident you do! Man i like the orc captain its great. i love the dynamic of the contrast between the skin tone and the red, really makes it pop.

Thanks

Yeah, I use pretty oldskool techniques as when I was originally into 40k (13years ago) I was used to using the GW Inks. I'm still using the same style but have had to adapt to get the new washes working. I tend to start off very day and work my way up to a lighter tone in the areas that need it. I'm pretty impressed with how its turning out so far... he's the first figure in 13years that I've painted! Although I still maintain that the old inks were alot easier to use its (so far) so good!

I really wanted to start on the Commissar today but managed to stop myself as I want to use a spray undercoat instead of bushing one on. That was fine for the Orks but the detail on these DKK is so good that I don't want to loose any of it.

Thanks for the comment and I hope to bring you more photos soon..

Not great quality pics but will give you an idea of how my WIP DKK Commissar currently looks... He's painted to look like a German Officer and I used a pic from WW2 as reference... Still very much WIP...

Looking nice my friend.
You going for the classic Black of the Waffen SS or the Grey of the line officers?

Going for the Grey for him and the other death riders (When I can afford them). I will then go for the Black when I get the Command HQ squad (again, when I can afford them)

Was going to try a much lighter scheme but when flicking through some books on WW1/WW2 I decided to go for the German colours. Will post some more pics when I'm done with him. Need to finish him a little then move onto the horse/saddle. Then finally the mud. Will add some barbwire also to finish. I'm finally happy with his colours, I repainted him about 4 times but luckily I paint very light so no details was lost.

I've finally got round to putting some of the DKK together. I love the Krieg but the have to be the most fiddly models I've ever worked on. The bayonets are so tough to cut from the sprues and clean up without snapping them and are mostly warped... same goes for the trench tools like spades etc. And dont get me started on those super tiny shoulder pads... man these guys are stressful! I will post some pictures tomorrow of my current progress and I hope to get some paint on these guys later this week.

Finally had some time to sit down and finish putting together my first squad of Death Korps. They have to be some of the most fiddly figures I've ever worked on and some of the pieces are tiny! But here they are. I made the Captain with some bits from the FW Command upgrade pack. Looking forward to getting some paint on these badboys

Ah DKoK. How i love them, used to have a few but found them too expensive, so i got rid of them and am now doing elysians. Go figure!!

Anyway, you're doing a great job. Any thoughts on a colour scheme for these yet?

I'm going for the German grey look... hoping it will work out... gf is back from Germany now so less time to work on them...

Small update. I got to slap some paint on my first Death Korps yesterday. I actually started out painting him in German grey but quickly found that this would be pretty time consuming. I’ve seen alot of people use earthy colours for the DKK and thats where I’m heading. I made the washes pretty dark and mixed some black into the browns and it turned out like this. This is by no means hi quality painting. But it does make it pretty quick to churn out a squad that look ok.

As in the mounted commissar? Well, thats the base he came with and it will change once the mud effect has been put on, you won't see the edge, everything will be more leveled.

It is a nice kit. I got it for about £10 inc postage and it was already built. Thought it would go nice with the Krieg. I want to get a lot of 1/35 scale WW2 tank to go with my army instead of all the 40k tanks.. it works out alot cheaper and they are alot more fitting IMO..
