The only reason the Cold War didn't go hot was M.A.D. That didn't apply back then, so we could crush anyone who threatened the Empire. These days it's a whole different kettle of fish.

M.A.D. didn't prevent Korea, or Vietnam, or Afghanistan... You have your point, but we did fight Soviets and Chinese head-on in Korea...
