Just wondering... thinking about using them as counter assault in hard boyz. Last summer they seemed to do well. Are they still doing well?

Short answer: No.

I would say why, but this topic has been utterly done to death and so I point you in the direction of the search bar...

You could have been a bit useful by posting a link, if this has been done to death you probably know where to find the thread in which this was discussed, considering how awful the search function is...

Honestly, I did a search and haven't found many threads discussing them recently. I'm sure they're there and just buried so I figured I'd start up a conversation...

Ogryns suck in that the equal points in Guardsmen are better in every way. However, they aren't so bad that you can't do well with them in a friendly game.

Lycaeus wrex needs to work on his internet people skills.......The Dakka search function is not very good.

Anywhoo, what I have heard is that ogryns can be good units if they are joined by commisar yarrick.

Inboud...

The general consensus is that Ogryns don't live up to their points value well.
I would suggest re-investment.

With a post this worthless, did you really have to post it. We all know the search function is horrible. From time to time people will ask a question that has been asked before. Its a funny thing really. Hmmm, wait, it may be the whole reason to have a forum. To posts threads and stimulate conversation. Just think, if all the topics get covered over time Dakka can become "read only".

OP, I have the same question and would appreciate some IG players input. I'll try a search and post a link if I find something.

I have used 'em a couple of times in friendly matchs. Their gun is nice in that it is a short ranged Heavy bolter, but they'll need a commisar with them to stick in the fight. They can take a beating but don't expect them to slaughter anything out right. Fun yes, competative not really.

It highly depends on what your facing.

A demolisher cannon will ruin your day.

On the other hand, against my Sisters army, I absolutely hate them.

I've tried numerous ways to deal with 10 Ogryns strong squads and they always wreak havoc with my strategy.

They have so many shots they can easily glance light transports to death and if they get in assault, it only gets worst. If you can manage to get them a cover save, they become extremely resilient to any sort of shooting with their toughness and multi wounds.

I play 2500 regularly and my opponent usually fields anywhere between 10 to 20 ogryns. He's still left with plenty of firepower sitting behind that wall of muscle to make it incredibly hard to win.

Ogryns aren't meant to slaughter anything. They're simply there to tar pit other units and keep assaults off your chimeras and tanks.

Are they still good at that or are they weak at it? At the last Hard Boyz I saw good players use them very successfully. What I'm worried about now is do they still fair well?
