Local group is running a "40k in 40mins" campaign next week...

Rules are simple.

400 pts.
Must have at least x1 troops choice
Rest is up to you!

So what would you take?

I was thinking a SoB team of x3 penitant engines, and a SoB squad.

But since I only have x1 penitant engine...

It'll be some marines of some kind...

But would could you do with 400pts?

Well, in small pt games you need numbers!

Run a small squad of plauge marines and a chaos land raider .

At 400 points I think you will all most be unbeatable.

Entirely too many orks.

Alternatively, 3 dreads and a small troop selection for SM would be similar to your idea and a little more durable.

So no FOC restrictions except 1x Troops? Here's my list with 3x Troops.

Dark Eldar;

Warrior Squad - 2 Dark Lances 2 Blasters (goes in terrain to snipe vehicles) (Alternate option is to field 1x Ravager with 2x Dissies as an additional weapon platform)
Warrior Squad - 2 Splinter Cannons 2 Blasters (goes in Raider to become super gunboat)
Raider Squad - 1 Dark Lance (goes in terrain to snipe vehicles, the Raider serves as Gunboat or weapon platform as needed)
1 Warp Beast Pack - 5 Beasts (hangs back to counter charge with Agoniser and 20 Str 4 attacks or goes on offensive with Gunboat as required by army you face)

5 x Dire Avengers = 60pts

Wave Serpent - Stones, Scatter lasers = 140pts

2 x Wraithlord both with 2 flamers and wraithswords = 200 pts.

tota 400pts

The Eldar list is really nice, but doesn't have a real answer to a Land Raider on the table other then trying to get into assault with the Wraithlords. If the LR sat back and shot and then just trundled away while PoMSing they could have a lot of trouble trying to lock it down.

THIS is what makes me happy my FLGS runs a 33 vehicle rule! (no vehicles with armor over 33 *front, side, rear*)

So no Dreads allowed? Eldar couldn't field any transports at all. Necrons wouldn't be allowed a Monolith.

I'd actually hate that, though it would make it very easy for DE to win games.

400 pts? I'd do something like this:

5 Scouts; powerfist, combat blades

5 Scouts; powersword, meltabombs, combat blades

My personal favorite!

Interesting... well a few mates and I had a test run with our lists... and it shapes up to be a very 'rock/paper/scissors' affair.

So the lists were (approx - going off memory here so not sure exact points cost)

Basically Mr T wiped the floor with Adz's chaos marines, and I wiped the floor with Mr T's space wolves. Didn't get to play Adz due to time constraints but I think it would've been different with those raptors against my gun-line.

400pts is a LOT of fun and good challenge, maybe even harder than playing 1500pt games since it's hard to know what to use and what 'type' of force to create.

Anyway, thought i'd update this and let you know how it went! The tournie is apparently in august but undecided if i'll enter due to time constraints...
