Have you used one in your IG army? How has it performed?

Is it a "shot in the Dark", or is it as effective as a basic LRBT (about the same cost) in its own way?

I've faced one...once. It actually managed to fire, because I was too busy chopping down blob squads and firing at Basilisks to shoot at the Deathstrike.
It was targeted at a 10-man Devastator squad with attached Librarian that had been taking potshots with missile launchers all game, but scattered, then rolled a 4 for radius, and only managed to finish off an Immobilized, weapon destroyed Vindicator nearby.

I used one a few times. crushed me a ork biker mob with the boss. later another one downed the Mek and about 15 orks. Another game they took out two manticores and a chimera or 2.

Lastly I used it to stop a grey knights land raider rush. by popping one and stunning another. I get really lucky with them though.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

I hate the deathstrike model looks nothing like its brother in epic and i feel like its a waste of money and time on the board seems like the biggest target in the game by the time you fire it i am sure some terminators will just deep strike next to it and smash it to bits havnt seen any in action yet but have watched a manticore level a mob of ork nobz

Rofl!

That said, for the same cost of a deathstrike, you get a manticore. manticore begins firing turn 1 and if it gets to fire 4 turns total it has probably ruined someones day.

Go for the consistent performer over the "probably going to scatter and do nothing while taking up a IG HS slot" pony.

so 5th ed is predominantly a game of movement. Some people have yet to figure this out. These people will tend to do stupid stuff like have gunlines. Deathstrikes own gunlines.

As such, I see a deathstrike as idiot insurance. Not really all that necessary, but it can give you a happy glow when it hoses stuff. I've never used one myself, but I can imagine using one in the future, once I'm able to spend money and time on "toy" units.

Field Marshal Wiley just told me to go feth myself. Clearly he doesn't respond well to insults.

First, thanks for starting this thread Deadshane; I have yet to use one myself, so this is interesting for me.

Just thinking about the way this is being released alongside spear head, I am thinking that Spearhead might be a good match for this unit? Spearhead units don't take a FOC spot AFAIK, so that would mean you could take one without sacrificing something else in your list (if your IG list is like mine, then the FA and HS slots are maxed out!).

It could work well... or maybe not. Thats the thing, I admit, I have yet to face one (probably will now there is plastic model on sale and there quite a few IG players down at my GW)

But if I do face one, I probably won't be worried considering the fact that by the time it fires, I will either have succured the objectives with very little chance of making me budge or I'll be tabled (Arh, the risk of running deathwing at a 1000 points)

If I did play IG I would go with a manticore. Those things rock in combat (yes, these ones I've faced) and they get even more awesome in apoc if you want to use the FW rules for them. They pack les punch but unlike the deathstrike, they are pretty much assured to kill at least one model in the game.

I think Deathstrikes would be most viable in a very large game, or Apocalypse, where it can be protected by swathes of troops, and still have it's one-shot weapon do a great deal of damage.

Of course, I'd have to take them in a battery to see their full power....

The bat rep in WD this month had a Deathstrike in an Outrider formation, using a couple of Sentinels as ablative protection to keep it alive until it fired.

Deathstrikes are amazing, just remember folks, radius = half the diameter, possible 12" blast marker with no center hole is amazing.

pretty much. I was talking about the new kit thats coming out, and we agreed that having a deathstrike is cool- simply for fun games and scenario's, especially home brewed scenario's... I mean its supposed to be like a ICBM. Who cannot imagine a scenario/campaign involving a mission trying to stop the ICBM from going off ?
