I normally play with 1500point armies and the length of our games varies pretty significantly, but I'm playing a 3000 point game next week (me and a friend vs another friend). I was just looking to see what sort of time scale it should take? It will be Orks and Eldar vs Vanilla Marines, so im just ooking for a ball park figure of how long it should take to get through a turn, and the whole game? Would it be twice as long as 1500 or does it take longer to get through? just so I can plan ahead

a scale i saw once said that for every 500 pts you add an 1/2 hour to that length of the game.

3000 pts would be a 3 hour game so i would say 15 minutes for each player turn. so 5 minutes in each phase.

Deployment can take much longer with more points, unless you use reserves. Specialyl Apocalypse deployment takes alot of time, but turns can go fast.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

3000 points per side, you're probably looking at 3+ hours depending on game length, how fast each of you move, army set-up, how fast stuff dies, etc. There's no really hard and fast rule on how quickly turns go. Some horde players take FOREVER (on purpose or not), others can move 150+ models with surprising agility.

A new day, a new time zone.

Unfortunately, it's just not possible to reduce it to that neat of a formula. The models involved in adding 500 points of massively tooled up SM command squad are going to do a lot less to extend a game then adding 500 points of barebones Ork infantry. Your best option is to consider what is going to be the most time intensive parts, and how they can be streamlined.

Perhaps a better approximation formula would be to calculate average game length as a function of model count. As several folks have said, 500 points of models are not all created equal. Model count is probably a much better predictor.

Also number of players involved. In my group, when we play team games, we tend to take a lot of time at the start of each turn discussing strategy, whereas if it is 1v1, you just do what you want. Though the time could be offset by having 2+ people to move models ;-)

the 500 pts equals 30 minutes is actually a decent average.

if i run Space marines it shouldn't take more then a collective 12-15 minutes to finish my turn,

But if i run footsloggin orks it will probably take 16-18 minutes to finish. i do have to practice moving 150+ orks, but it isn't difficult with a little practice.

15 minutes per turn is pretty decent, considering that what they give you for 'Ard Boyz games.
