just starting out with 40k and i saw Grey Death has a post in his WIP thread where he has a magnetised Rhino/Razorback/Pred. just wanting to know what parts would be necessary for that conversion and how difficult it would be? thanks

Well pretty sure all SM tanks 'cept land raiders are based on rhino chassis' so it shouldn't be to hard but you'd prob need the parts from all 3 kits(rhino/pred/razor) handy. Tho I suppose if you only need 1 of them at a time, you could use the rest of the parts for some baller terrain.

Rare earth magnets are needed. I did the same with my CSM dreads, and my weapon selections on my Chaos Land Raider, however that is just for those vehicles only. I also have plans to do something similar with my Tau Battlesuits.

Best place to buy magnets. Almost all have similar prices, they have the best selection and fastest shipping. I've bought literally thousands of magnets from them with no problems.

I've magnetized everything from Crisis suits to Carnifexes to Chaos Warriors. All it takes is a little confidence and a little practice.

The other thing you might want is a drill bit the size of the magnet you are using. All you need is one or two turns to make a nice hole that the magnet will slip right into (after dabbing on some super glue or putting in a spot of green stuff.)

1/8" magnets are great for small weapon options. 3/16" are good for larger weapons and 1/4" magnets will hold pretty much anything you want. A 1/8" magnet will hold a tau drone or a Tyranid Gargoyle on a flying stand, you might want to use the 3/16" magnets for larger models or those with metal bits.

The Rhino/Razorback/Pred conversion isn't too difficult, but it will require a little messing around and weeing where you can magnetize. I've never done one of those, and I don't know if there is a tutorial online, but is should not be too difficult if you put a modicum of effort and a little ingenuity into it.

There is an article here on Dakka about it, just search "magnetization". I found it yesterday and I'm half way through magnetizing my new fire prism/night spinner. Not sure who wrote the article (cant remember off the top of my head) but kudos to them

sweet as thanks for the help. i've looked at the tutorials and i've come up with a plan. i'm hoping it will work.... so i want to create to platforms with the components for all four of the STC tanks in the space marine army. i'm hoping that by purchasing a whirlwind and a predator that with a few other parts i'll eventually have the ability to swap out parts on the tanks to field rhinos, a Razorback, predator or Whirlwind as necessary. any thoughts?
