So what is the size of a Norn Queen? Is it just a part of a hive ship, or is it pretty much the hive ship itself. And wouldn't there be land based Queens? I mean, in theory, the Nids had to start somewhere.

There won't be a norn queen. If there is they'll redo the fluff and make it into some kind of biotitan, but if they did that there would be too much nerd backlash.

I could see them maybe trying a dominatrix but I think that would be too big and too hard to pull off.

I'd rather see them come up with "superheavy" nid that you could turn into a herodule or exocrine or malefactor with different bitz or FW upgrades. Even though those are 3 different bugs I think they're all about the same size ...?

it wont be the first timwe Gw has completely ignored the background material, but will add to the chorus of naysayers on the Norn Queen.

The closest you will get to an overmind monster walking on a planet is the Dominatrix. That I could see for Apocalypse either as stats for homebuild as per the Warlord, or a Forgeworld kit. I am not saying we will get one, but it isnt unfeasible, its just about the only gargantuan creature Forgeworld have yet to produce unless you count monsters from early Epic no longer in ciculation such as the Exocrine and Dactylis. If you can have Heirophants, which are supposedly bigger than Dominatrix, you can have a Dominatrix kit. I hope it would get a complete resculpt though, the Epic Dominatrix looks really crap.

Does anyone remember the Norn Queen card from the 40k CCG? It had a picture and everything. If I can find my card, I'll send you guys a pic. It was definitely a land-based creature.

According to the bulk of the fluff, it would seem that though the Norn Queen attaches itself to a large craft, it is not an actual part of that craft, and is, itself, not that large (smaller than a hierophant).

If the norn queen is the progenitor of all tyranids, what gives birth to the ships? (Which are obviously MUCH bigger.) Not to mention Norn queens themselves...

A Norn Queen doesn't make sense. A Dominatrix, that makes more sense.

Actually, IIRC, the Imperium have faced Norn Queens in battle, but due to the extensive damage required to knack one, the Magos Biologis never have enough left to investigate....

Norn Queens make baby Nids, so they stay in the safety of a squishy Bioship. Graham McNeill wrote that and he has been a studio employee for some time before he went freelance.

I think I remember fluff somewhat along those lines...except it was referring to space engagements. In other words, taking out the ship carrying one takes enough firepower that it liquifies anything inside.

Norn Queens aren't combat genotypes. A Dominatrix is another story.

just remembering back in the depths of time, weren't dominatrix's essentially steeds for the norn queens, I think the little rider thing was a norn queen. most un-impressive too...

From what I have seen in the DE codex, they do need a major remake. That is one of the other armies I want to play, though, with it being so under-par, I don't think it would be worth it. I really hope to see a DE remake soon. I bet middle of 2009, since, orcs get new models in Jan, I am guessing around june/july of 2009!

If I recall correctly, if a Norn Queen is killed, the pyschic distress causes other norn queens to calf new ones. I think one of the Inquisitors warned about killing the norn queens as actually being a bad thing.

I know for sure that someone made a Dominatrix scratchbuild some years ago and it had a spot in WD Spain. It was more or less a converted Hive Tirant with a real big egg sack thingy behind like the Alien Queen.

Perhaps somebody at FW saw that picture and decided to copy it and charge us 1000€ for a pop.

At least according to the current fluff but as we all know GW takes great liberties at rewriting fluff to sell more models with each new codex.
