I hope GW (or a person who tapes it) puts in on Youtube so the rest of the world (and those not watching US cable at set times) can see it.

If there actually were commercials, I don't think things would've stayed this quiet, especially if some of them are supposed to have already aired. Many people, somewhere, would have seen it. Others would've just happened to have their digital recorders running, and it would've gone to youtube already. One way or another, there would currently be confirmation.

Why in the world would there be rumors about commercials?
Seriously.
This type of news has to arrive from somewhere, and just because you 'didn't see it on warseer first' doesn't mean that it isn't happening.
Sheesh. Even chris golinghorst confirmed it.
Besides, it probably isn't that interesting. It just maybe....just maybe like what golinghorst described it as. Which to be honest doesn't sound that impressive. It sounds very similar to what you see on local TV about a new shop opening up in the delta shopping center in downtown wherever USA.
In other words, hardly news worthy, nor hardly unbelievable.

And yet a milestone for GW, who have never advertised before.
As such, I'm certain we'd have heard something. Two people on the Interwebs does not a wind up prevent.

and one person continually going "OMG! This cant be true because I didn't see it on warseer first! Impossible!" doesn't make it invalid either.
Sorry, I know you aren't going off exactly as I am exaggerating about. But a bit of hyperbole helps levity sometimes, unless of course you are british and have a huge stick stuck up your arse.

The fact that we're past a couple of the airdates and yet, 'mysteriously' no one has seen anything about them, and there's still been no mention of them anywhere else does say a lot about the chance of them actually existing.

I mentioned there is nothing on Warseer. Being one of the biggest, you'd think someone would have flagged something up. And nothing from BoLS.
Just saying that it's such a radical departure for GW, you'd think more people would be talking about it.

Or people possibly don't find commercials particularly newsworthy. Especially if they go something like "Hi! This is redshirt jim over at GW's dollie emporium! Y'all come down and see us, ya hear?"
But then again, I suppose you do so I will let you gnaw in angst over the "ifs whens and hows" of a GW commercial.

I'm not going to put my thoughts down on whether there is an advert or not. (some people in this thread will be looking rather foolish me thinks if the former is true.) But people need to realise television advertising in the US is completely different from the UK. For example over there they get single outlets of certain franchises (macdonalds, kfc etc.) advertising on a local level, unlike in the UK where we only get the main corporate identity stuff on a national level. So it's entirely possible GW are only advertising in select areas.

Oh please, don't be dense. It's an odd enough occurence that someone would've commented on it. The fact that this thread is the only place it's mentioned anywhere is a pretty concrete sign that Padapolis is just stirring up the anthill to see what happens. The fact he didn't even think this through enough to mention a channel is telling too.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity...... |

And no GW Staff Member has ever been party to a wind up now, have they?
As I said, it's not impossible, I just think that there hasn't been a lot heard about it, and for such a big change in policy (no advertising to TV advertising, no matter how locally specialised) is a big enough change that I doubt the veracity of the OP's information.
If I am wrong, and the advert exists, then fair enough, I will stand corrected.
But come on, the OP said he set his DVR, and it wasn't to be seen. Now he could have set the time wrong, or programmed the wrong channel, sure. But I still have the default position of 'it's a wind up' until proven otherwise.

Adventure Games Plus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin ran a commercial in the early 90's. Cool thing was they panned across a 40K battle scene and the orks I had painted for the store were shown.

Holy Space Marine on a Stick.
This conversation has even begun to boggle my internet-hardened mind.
Here's one to blow your mind, we ran commercials a year ago to target audiences in Maryland.
Commercials have already happened, and continue to happen in very small, select markets in the US to gauge what effectiveness they have on local stores.
They are targeted at populations that don't know the product.
I'd be stunned if the very tiny sample of people that both know GW product AND post on forums would see them.
Sometimes I think people forget the infinitely small sample forum posters represent of an already small, niche hobby when compared to the thousands of millions of individuals in the US. It should not come as a surprise that a commercial can run in a market where there are not only people who might play our games but don't read forums (and thus never report seeing a commercial), but most likely nobody in that targeted market has ever heard of GW before.
The US is virtually untapped in comparison to the UK. The Games Workshop brand isn't even close to having the huge market penetration that it enjoys in the UK and even Europe.
Finally the commercial isn't a mind-blowing piece of animation or adventure like you would find at the beginning of a Dawn of War game. It is a simple, "these are toy soldiers, come to this store to find out more," affair.

They know. They are also the loudest monkeys in the cage, so the quiet ones don't get noticed and thus the louder ones, due ot the ways monkeys learn, think that if you make noise and rattle the cage, that you will payed attention to..
