There was only Red and Blue.

Yellow never existed. Gold and Silver kind of existed, but not really. None of the other games existed at all.

There are only 150 Pokemon, Mew and Missingno. don't count.

Fire Red and Leaf Green are horrible. They are remakes of red and blue, but they don't even have the whole infinite item cheat.

I do believe so, they have some more colors and have the berries and the ability to hold items, but its decent besides that.

Personally I loved Fire Red. It's pretty much the same game we know and love. They took out glitches, and added stuff like berries, hold items, and the Sevii islands (where you can catch some G/S era pokemon). I can personally recommend it to any fan of the original games.

Note, that if you want to complete the G/S/C set, you'll need a copy of Stadium or know someone who has it beat.

(Also, yeah, Missingno. is that rogue tetris block that can give you infinite rare candies.)

I played the first 2 generations voraciously, and eventually picked up Ruby to see what had changed over the years. I like the pokemon designs that look like semi-realistic creatures that could actually exist in some sort of sane (if fantastical) ecology. There are quite a few that simply look like colorful designs and weird animu staples that I just don't care for. The original ghosts (and the added 2 from Ruby) are cool, and most of the legendary ones that physically resemble an actual animal are neat, but most are quite rediculous.

That said, I always wanted a version that was actually split up into geographic regions bigger than one town that had entirely different species living in them that actually could thrive in that sort of region. Jungle pokemon, arctic, etc. In Ruby there is an area underneath a volcano that is constantly under ashfall. What are its indigenous pokemon? A bird made out of steel and a dizzy teddy bear. Makes no science at all.

I think the series was originally meant to be more realistic like that - back in red/blue, pokemon used to eat each other. Of course that wouldn't go down too well with the kids, so that aspect was removed from the background in favour of excessive rediculousness.

Ahhhh, Digimon. It's....hard to describe. The name and basic concept make it seem to be a blatant rip-off of Pokemon, but as far as I know, during the first 2 seasons there was neither a card game or a videogame, they only showed up later.
It was also about some kids getting little monsters to fight for them, and every monsters name ended on -mon, which at point lead to an enemy called Dea-mon.
Oh, and all the monsters could talk. They also evolved (or digitized in this case) into stronger forms to fight the evil monsters and at some point everyone looked like a robot or an angel. Or both.

Originally Digimon was basically battle tamagotchis that could link together and randomly throw attacks at eachother until one of them died. The show didn't come around until pokemon exploded and had its own successful show.

Funny thing: This is also true of Yu-Gi-Oh. In fact, the first season or two of Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't even have the card game in it, either. Of course, the American translation of the series starts with the exact episode the card game is introduced to the show and cuts the earlier episodes that don't have anything to do with the game(and thus the episodes that introduce the characters, leading to a situation in the American version where you're supposed to already be familiar with the characters, but really aren't since the show JUST STARTED).

I'm quoting myself for truth....

At least when Pokemon evolved, most of them had the dignity to look at least in someway like their previous form, but this is just slowed. Look at that: There's this plant thing, then it becomes a cactus, then a Fairy and then some sort of....dominatrix?

Notable exceptions, of course, include magicarp/gyarados. Man, if that evolution wasn't so well known, it'd have been a pretty good joke on the player.

I played the originals (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow) and the 2nd generation ones (Gold/Silver/Crystal).

Everything else (with the Exception of Fire Red and Leaf Green) is an utter pile.

I just wish Nintendo would realise this, and make us a single most epic Pokemon game of all time, Mixing the 1st 2 Generations in one huge world of awesomeness.

There's just so much potential for a great RPG. Just think of the possibilties for Wii-controll, like throwing Pokeballs.

I guees the most difficult part would be to make the battles look cool again.
