OMG, I love the guy "casting "spells.... Yes, LARPers are the nerdiest.

These girls look hot when surrounded by sweaty overweight dorks. Hell any female without a beard looks good at a Games Day. Same principal applies here.

Pokemon is the greatest.

Original 150 are, anyway. Not these freakish, new, geometric shape blobs they're trying to pass off as pokemon these days.

Indeed, even the second wave, (the extra 100) were freaking amazing. After that though.... Lets just say that we found the wildlife of Chernobyl and its not pretty.

The games however are awsome and! There are rumours of a redo of Gold and Silver. The best games with the slight possibility of Crystal beating it.

As for SCA and Total War... Wow, I didn't know I was that far down the list as I am also a Heinlein fan and have so far done everything there aside from wtrite fanfiction or gone furring.

I think that most Larpers are okay but when they rhino hide it gets to be rather annoying...

i thing a good quarter of the larpers i've met were furries, or had a pedo vibe, or both

i've yet to meet a wargamer that either scared me, or made me feel dirty simply being in their presence

I see you haven't meet the furries that play Space Wolves/13th Company.

On a similar note, I've never meet a Slaanesh player who wasn't a little off.

hahah, I love that clip! That is exactly what I imagine it to be like, although I am sure it is not always so.

Yeah, well, if it gets you laid then hell, I may be totally wrong!

I know for damn sure I have never gotten laid because of 40K!

It is always a touch and go moment when a girl I am dating finds out about my hobby!

SCA is where guys dress up in armor and beat the crap out of each other, right? See, I could get into that so long as you can really fight. If it's half assed, then you are just a nerd in armor.

Nerd= a boring or socially inept person.

I choose....
Comics and (1 player) Video games.
I would also have chosen miniature painting, jogging, lifting weights and needle point had they been on the list.

All of the others require a greater level of social interaction than catching the bus into town,
shuffling into a shop and handing over money without making eye contact.

In the case of Pokemon, are we talking about the games, or the extra crap? Because the core games are awesome, and pretty much everyone I know that's mature enough to appreciate them does so. Where as we all know about the other crap.

I obviously can't speak for you fellows across the pond, but it seems that here in the good ole US of A there's been a sharp increase in the "nerd" culture within the past few years. Now it's like the self-proclaimed nerds are actually trying to distance themselves from everyone else. This wouldn't be that much of an issue except for the fact that the most vocal ones that I've run into have a massive superiority complex. So "nerds" now aren't really that socially inept, since many of the hobbies that used to be considered nerdy are now pretty mainstream.

That being said, I'm pretty sure we're safely above LARPers. I may play games with army men in my spare time, but at least I'm not in the middle of the quad practicing my katana drills.

Today I didn't even have to use my hot-shot las; I gotta say it was a good day.

My nerdiest was when I spent an entire summer building a model of the space shuttle on the launch pad. I didn't have any contact with my friends and I spent every penny I could scrounge on paint or plasticard. I even disdained the use of transfers in favor of sitting with my face pressed up against the plastic, painting the tiniest details by hand. Two years later, I got drunk and blew it up with Mexican m-80's. I blame thinner fumes for my slow decline into madness.

Damn right. Not entirely sure how it can be more nerdy than wargaming, my experience of LRP is as a highly sociable activity done outdoors with booze in hand and plenty of attractive leather clad ladies about. It rather feels like the pot calling the kettle black accusing one of being more nerdy than the other, and it makes me a bit sad really that one class of geek needs to feel superior to another.

Warhammer and 40k? check
Video games, single player, multiplayer and MMO's? check
D&D (2e in college, 4e now) check
Magic The Gathering? check
Pokemon? Gameboy and DS versions check, cards? no, but my son loves them
LARP? No, but at least they're getting outside and having fun
Job, wife and kids? check

Pretty nerdy, but doesnt really matter. Some people soak up the TV, some like movies, some read, some do scrapbooking, etc etc etc, just enjoy what you enjoy and stop worrying about what others think.

BTW, the two pokemon in the picture are Palkia and Dialga, the Sinnoh region legendaries(Dragon types) introduced in Diamond and Pearl.

Cosplay, wow, you learn something new everyday. Isn't that basically LARPing though dressed as Anime characters though?

And Shellfish guy, we aren't trying to put anyone down, this was just meant to be a humurous exercise in geekiness. I am sure everyone here is pretty OK with the fact that we are all huge nerds.

What? Members of one clique reassuring their egos by ranking themselves as being better than members of another clique when both are equally ridiculous when taken too seriously? Shock and surprise! Surprise and shock! Amazement and constipation -consternation, whatever!

The sad thing is there are people dumb enough to think that the geek hierarchy flowchart is actually some sort of authoritative source, ignoring that rather important, '-consider themselves-' part. Any hobby is going to be pathetically nerdy if you way over immerse yourself in it.

Cosplay, as with anything else, is 90% crap, but that 10% sure can be nice. I was at a convention where in imitation of a character in a particular scene, an attractive girl was wearing a blue wig, towel, panties, and nothing else (well, she had shoes on so she could walk around...)

There are different types of Larps too. There are the 'we're in the woods throwing bean-bags at each other' larps, which I never got.

There are also the White Wolf genre larps, which don't involve bopping anyone, and have the highest female:male ratio of any gamer activity I've ever played (including video games, M:tG, Wargaming, and tabletop gaming).

I would say that the nerdiness of any of these activities is inversely proportional to the odds that you have of getting laid doing them. In that sense, Larp (both types), and Cosplay are significantly less nerdy than wargaming, where, unless you're gay, you're never going to get laid.

I'm sure most folks are. I've just seen way too many threads on various forums lately with people taking their hobbies way too seriously. Just my attempt (maybe a bit heavy handed) to get folks to chill and just enjoy what they enjoy and be happy that others are doing the same.
