Maddening Mutant Boss of Chaos

Boston

First and foremost, I'd re-energize a corporate commitment to community building. e. g., restore GTs, improve WD (beefing up coverage of players' armies, player/club campaigns, etc.), encourage/sponsor club and indy tournament events, perhaps revive Black Gobbo...

Then, LatD Codex

Then, Chaos Dwarves (less goofy, this time -- sort of a steampunk Dark Mechanicus for WHFB)

1) New Chaos Codices -- I can't stop at one. I'd junk the current CSM and Daemon codices, and replace them with three new ones. Chaos Renegades would actually cover renegades and true, old-style mishmash Chaos armies that included some CSMs alongside Traitors and all kinds of gribblies. Chaos Daemonworlds would include daemon stuff from the current codex, but also mutants (who live on daemonworlds in vast numbers) and rules for fighting on daemonworlds. Chaos Legions would be CSM-centric, covering the big 4 of Chaos (and other similarly monogod Legions) and the Black Legion.

2) Horus Heresy -- An absolute no-brainer and something that's either in GW's blind spot, or something they're massively overthinking. Your publishing division has a series far more popular than anything they've ever done, and they're leveraging that across the company by...doing absolutely nothing. *facepalm*

3) 40K Skirmish -- It's self-contained, using existing models and a main rulebook that includes the rules for all playable factions. The rules are slightly different than 40K, but include some of the basic mechanics. It gives GW an entry game that's actually replayable (unlike AoBR), helps sell existing boxed sets, takes up virtually no extra shelf space, and allows them to take on their competition where they're strongest (skirmish level).

Am I me or am I the head of GW? If the latter:

1. Move the three starter games (AOBR and BFSP and whatever the LOTR starter is) into cheap, pre-painted plastic sets a la AT-43/Confrontation with easy to follow rules to get new players.
2. License all game production to FFG and concentrate on miniatures creation. At minimum, license the former 'side' games (Necromunda, Gorkamorka, Inquisitor, Mordheim, Epic, etc) to FFG or similar company.
3. do whatever necessary to keep the LOTR license; if too expensive, pursue other licenses (Heroclix is now open...)

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

1. Make future 40K editions into four hardback books including Rules, Imperial Codex, Chaos Codex, and Xenos Codex. These would be released simultaneously to prevent prior codeci from becoming obsolete or unbalanced and include a basic list for regular game play. After this initial release, issue an army-specific codex that expands on the army list and provides alternate lists to play with that army: Dark Angels (Ravenwing/Deathwing), Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Iyanden, Biel-tan, Bad Moons, Kult of Speed, etc.

2. Combat Patrol: Just like KK's Necromunda, but with the armies of the 40K codeci. Great way to get started in a game; include details on campaigning to increase your patrol's skills and talents as well as making them completely compatible with the 40K core rules. This would be appropriate for small scale actions including espionage teams, boarding parties, explorator units, gladiator fights, and hive world conflicts. I'd love advancing an eldar guardian patrol to an exarch council and then playing that exarch council in a 2k game...

3. Production of all Troops selections in plastics, including alternate Troops like Wraithguard for Eldar.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

I'll trade in 2 of my "greenlights" to put in more effort and awesomeness into this one:

The Warhammer 40k Black Book:

Featuring:
- Balanced Races!
- All Codexes updated, unified and tabbed for easy referance! (i.e. Dark Angles, Ultramarines, Space Wolves etc. updated and under the Space Marine Core Rules subsection)
- 2 NEW races! Squats (yeah!) and something else, like Telepathic Super Space Squid that possess other people's bodies that give players the chance to buy new units or convert old ones that they have lying around...
- Painting guides!
- Expanded Fluff for all races, not just Imperium!
- Pockets for WD or future rulebook updates/expansions!
- 90% less taint of evil capitalistic corperation!
- And, released simultaniously, The Warhammer 40k Black Book S.E. featuring a "backstage" look of the modelling process, inspiration of the storyline, a day in the life of a GW Designer and a Special Edition HQ Unit from your favourite race!

I'll go with mostly combined codices (ala armageddon and eye of terror)

1) Codex Inquisition (Deathwatch, Daemonhunters, Witchhunters all in one book)

2) Codex Founding Chapters Part 1 (SW, BA, IF, WS) add on

3) Codex Traitor Legions Part 1 (pick 4-5) add on

4) Dark Eldar

yes, i added a fourth since, lets face it, my wishes don't come true anyways.

1) Necromunda/40K Skirmish. Offering more detail than the larger battle rules of 40k. Great springboard for potential new players who look at the game and the cost to get into it and think, "WTF!". This would complete a linear "Small/Medium/Large" offering, with this game/40k/Apoc. A "Trilogy of Carnage" of sorts.

2) New Army Books: Eldar/Skaven. Thanks!

3) Mass-Media: 40K Movie - With real actors. A real director. A real budget, to coincide with the release of the 40K MMORPG - and yes, it'd be a requirement for the company to allow players to play characters/races OTHER than Space Marines.

Just random thoughts.

1. Update all codex to current rule version. Combine where necessary.

2. All plastic figures.

3. Work on fluff for all races. I would love to see some great books for other races than the humans.

Hopefully this last suggestion doesn't open a vortex since I am stepping outside the list of three. But as a couple other folks mentioned, having a line of product based on the Heresy timeframe could be super groovy. I'd buy it. Since GW has most of my cash anyway, why not take the rest?

I agree with the users who said a 40k mmo

It should be done in the style of Necromunda however... with higher levels having access to ways to branch into chaos worlds or Marine worlds... the highest levels able to war later there in. It would ROCK

Chaos, IG, Marine, and inquisition players start in the underhive as normal, orks start in the feral camps outside the hive city, tyranids are a constant outside threat.... Tau? could be in a small section of the city trying to influence them to sway to the greater good... Eldar would be a tough one to include in this scenario....

Man I should write the background story for this idea....

1. Bring back Specialist Games to the prominence it had in the mid-nineties. Focusing specifically on boxed sets(Like AoBR and the upcoming Space Hulk) that allow an easy shift into the larger games of 40k and WFB. This would include(but not be limited to) Necromunda, GorkaMorka, Space Hulk (yes, I know they are doing it already ), and Mordheim.

While each of the SGs would be different, the basic rules dynamics would be uniform across them(other than special rules, scenarios, etc.) much like the Expansion books change the dynamic in 40k. This would allow players to create crossover games with the systems with ease, giving players free reign to create endless scenarios between the systems and essentially allow a large variety of skirmish games to be played in many different setting.

Also, LoTR would be relegated to a SG, with support only equal to each of the other SGs. Essentially, there would no longer be a "Big Three." Just 40k, WFB and SGs.

2. Give all armies new codices for 5th ed. without waiting for a new model launch. Model range updates would follow as scheduling dictates.

3. Raise prices.

1. Replace/change the GW Community System (WD, Website, GDs, Tournaments, etc) so that it promotes/focuses on the hobby and games with real articles, ideas, faqs as needed and other such inspiration/stuff instead of basically being limited advertising.

2. Warhammer 40k reboot line: have 40k rebuilt to make it a better game. Main products would be the core rulebook which would have options to scale from combat patrol to apocalypse; an all-in-one army book that supported all official and active armies (or merge this into the main rulebook if it does not make it too huge); fluff books would replace the current codex releases; supplemental books like Cities of Death, Space Hulk, or Planetstrike to fill in areas rules/concepts the main rulebook would not have space for and are less likely to be major focus at a tournament; line of "codexes" for experimental/"beloved" army lists that do not fit the current game model lines nor normal tournament play but niche players still clamor for such as LatD or maybe even Squats.

3. Prepare a similar reboot of Warhammer for a year or so after the 40k one came out.

Yes, I realize this violates KK's specification of "codex, expansion, minor game". LotR fits the post reboot model close enough already, I would just release it as a new edition when The Hobbit comes out to cash in.
