I ordered mine around the time the codex came out before melta vets became the next big guard army. I actually still have a whole blister left over because I ordered extra in case I ever wanted to tack on a couple more squads.

Well I'm set on melta but not flamers and heavy flamers. I ordered melta through the local store, he had to order them about 5-6 times before he finally got them in. Then he asked me how many packs I orderd. I said I think I ordered two, and he told me that they sent him 4 so I picked up the other two for some more spares .
bigtmac68: A suggestion for you. Go out and buy the immolator kit. It hasa tl multi-melta and a tl heavy flamer. You can make 4 melta guns out of it and get some of the heavy flamers out of the deal. Then if you don't want it you can sell off the rhino, or keep the rhino for your marine army.

I found a meltagun in my friend's bitz box when we were doing a trade and it was like I had found the pot of gold at the end of the Rainbow. Thank goodness I've went for flamers over meltas in my Vulkan list.

I think there's an important note to make here:
WYSIWYG doesn't mean that your model has to look like the model on GW's website. Your models must just clearly be identifiable for what they have. If you take a Tau fusion blaster and equip it to something else and call it a melta; that's fine. As long as you don't have Tau fusion blasters elsewhere in your army doing other things. You can take an Ork Kannon or Zzap Gun and stick it on a medusa and call it a melta cannon. So long as its unique and identifiable...you're all set.
Don't freak about not having enough melta-guns, just find bits or things from somewhere else and create your own arsenal.
I have a full squad of tankbustas. Know how I made them? I cut the mace heads off fantasy ork arms, glued them to the tips of sluggas, and called them Rokkit pistols. I took a twin-linked shoota, snipped the end off, snipped apart the rokkit launcha from a killa-kan, and glued the rokkits to the front of the twin-linked shoota. Voila; another tankbusta.
Do what you have to do; GW invented "counts as." WYSIWYG just means that if you have it, you need something showing that you have it.

The combination of the awesomeness that is Meltaguns in the new Guard codex combined with 'Ard Boyz means that it's tough sledding to get ahold of any. If you're desparate, you could always use some plastic tube and convert them up for WYSIWYG until you are able to get some.
Edit: Dashofpepper also makes a great point. I was nearly to the point of pilfering some Tau guns to use for meltas for my 'Ard Boyz guard...

I should also note that the fusion blaster in question was cut down for that model; an unmodified one would look even worse.

Gentlemen, I suggest you learn to make copy molds from the originals, it's very easy and cheaper than the bits in most cases, and sometimes, you can't even get the bits anymore!
http://www.alumilite.com/HowTos/SquishMold.cfm
The example there is an autobody, it is so much easier to make smaller pieces. There are actually a a whole family of about 15 minute cure time 2 part mold materials you can mix by hand, like taffy sort of, and then use plumber's steel (a 2 part epoxy clay for fixing pipes) inside a 2 part mold and just squish it together.
I have made all sorts of conversion parts, where I needed multiples very easily, in 30 minutes or so, including mold creation time.
Good luck!

I like the look of that. I would imagine if you sculpt your own models and components, that would be a very quick and cheap way of making replicas.

You shouldn't really, modelers outside of the Miniature Wargaming groups do it all the time. All I am advocating here is you make custom molds of a bit for your own use from figures you already own for custom conversions for your own army. In that context there really isn't any problem, don't have a stigma!
I did a lot of units like this, (recast bits on original models) Sternguard with Combi Meltas, Chaos Jump packs for Khorne berzerker plastic conversions, helmets, heads and kneeling legs for my Grenswick rifles IG. Its fun and ads a great tool to your modling ability! Add in some green stuff work before the copy mold and even get melta guns with a custom army badge etc.
What you can do is really pretty awesome! Check it out!

Technically, copying GW stuff like that is an IP violation.
Of course, if you put a GW gun inside as the core of the copy, I guess maybe it's OK as a "conversion" that started out as at least 50% GW?

I don't think there's anything wrong with making bitz copies for your own use, even if it is illegal, how is anyone gonna know? It would just be bad form and illegal if you're going to try and sell your copies or probably even give them away. As long as it's for your own use, who cares? I've always wanted to try to do it.
