By "instant payment", I assme PayPal or somesuch?
And by "about a month", I assume less than a month?
I'd reverse the payment and dump the PMs in the Swap Shop.

Ahh, I see you made a complaint about me.
Considering I posted in on Saturday I think this thread should be locked.
It generally is not my problem that I had to take an emergancy trip to my father's. And neither is it that my mum didn't post the parcel.
But nevermind, my bad.

No, I think there is still relevance. If nothing else, we can bask in the sheer coincidence of the package being shipped after the thread was started. What are the odds....?
It generally is not my problem that I had to take an emergancy trip to my father's.
Yes it is.
And neither is it that my mum didn't post the parcel.
Yes it is again. If you agreed to do something, you should do it. If unable to perform, you should refund the money. If nothing else, you send a note explaining what happened. Not to minimize your problems, but a little communication goes a long way.

Well, the problem with using his age as a defense is that he's basically saying one of two things:
1) I know I shouldn't have delayed, but I'm a kid so hopefully I can get away with it, or
2) I shouldn't have been dealing with adult stuff, I"m just a little kid so please leave me alone.
Either one is fine by me. If you want to be treated like an adult, than you need to deal with the fact that you dropped the ball. If you want to be treated like a kid, well, we can patronize you all day long.

Thats why one shouldnt do deals on dakka, IF THE PERSON is under a certain age/maturity level. Im sorry but at 13, theres no WAY one would be responsible enough to conduct proper business. Sorry you got hosed athb hopefully it gets sorted

Well, in the US the courts agree. Nobody under 18 can sign a valid contract. But 13 year olds do business all the time: paper routes, babysitting, mowing lawns, etc. A swap shop deal isn't exactly high finance, it's "I'll send you money, you put the stuff in a box and mail it to me." While I would be leery if I knew the kid was that old, I'm also not going to steer clear just because of age.
Honestly, age has little to do with this. I've had deals where I didn't ship for three weeks. Stuff happens. You cop to it, offer a refund, sweeten the pot, ship when they ask, whatever it takes. In my experience, as long as you answer emails within 24 hours, pretty much any delay or shenanigan will be ignored by most traders. Time isn't the factor, it's the worry that they've been had.

13 years old???
Hmmm... I hesitate to say this, but you should not be selling stuff online. Maybe, maybe not, but I feel you have proved that you cannot handle it.
...man, I would be pretty pissed if I found out I had bought stuff from a 13 year old kid. These are the kind of transactions where your parents should basically take care of it. We are not talking about washing a car or selling lemonade here, regardless of the profit made. Take that as an insult if you want (most kids would), but I would simply not buy from ANYONE under 18.
Just too risky, and this all makes a whole lot more sense now.
It is good that you showed yourself, although I am not sure why you did it, and that matters even more than showing up at all.
On top of this you could be using your age as an excuse, and that is most definitely what appears to be happening. FCS it is the internet, I can't even know if you aren't actually some 40 year old dude.
Polonius wrote:Honestly, age has little to do with this. I've had deals where I didn't ship for three weeks. Stuff happens. Age actually has a lot to do with this, because if anything goes wrong the kid's parents are responsible for his actions. Anyway... What if he (I think) was 10 years old? 8 years old? I have no problem with an 18 year old age limit for ALL laws such as cigarettes, drinking, and joining the military, but 18 years old is the key word here. It may not be High Finance (DERRR!) but it most definitley involves stuff that most kids just do not get. If you are 18 you are responsible for your own actions, and that is my main issue with this, the seller can easily use age as a trump card and has done so already.
"Note"
I will simply not use the DakkaDakka swap shop with people I do not know from real life, it is simply not set up to keep things in line, as this is primarily a forum site and I sure as hell would like it to stay that way.

QFT , im a good example if i dare say so!
Sure i messed up often on my trades , but i fix it right away within the same day on my own expense.
For example , with Alpharius i had trouble fitting the Phantom Titan in the box it came with among the foams and the wraith guard he wanted.
so while switching to a bigger box i forgot the foot that was laying beneath the foam. Upon arrival Alpharius told me , and immediately i sent out the foot , express + tracking.
Same goes with My necron trade , i was so proud of been able to send out my side of trade package the very same day i receive the items that i forgot to pack the codex in.
so i ran out , bought a large letter bag and mailed the codex right away.
Age has nothing to do with it!
I have also taught swimming lessons from 5 year olds to Adults from since 14 ( people know my capabilities and thus entrust their lives and their childrens lives to me )

This shows a level of maturity that most kids simply do not have Luna, you are ahead of the game. I have mainly been talking about online sales BTW, but to some degree I would most definitely feel the same way in a "real" life situation. My personal opinion I suppose, but I simply cannot agree that age has little to nothing to do with this, because it does. The seller also mentioned shutting the thread down... yes... I mean what? I see red flags like a maple in the fall written all over this one, and I tend to listen to my intuition with very consistent results.
It is ludicrous to expect a child (13-15 you are still a child, 16+ you are STARTING to develop a serious maturity) to be able to act like an adult in this type of situation, I have no second thoughts about his part, you just cannot treat a kid the same way you would an adult, PERIOD.
To say that adults are just as lazy and blablablabla is pretty irrelevant here because we all know that, but it does not change the fact that they are SUPPOSED to be more mature than a kid, no if's and's or but's about it. Adults are actually REQUIRED to be more mature, but we won't get into that one.
I would say that at 16 I would hesitate to agree with myself now, but this is pretty pointless too, I have learned and matured drastically since then.
Do what you want, and I hope Athba gets all of this resolved.
Lunahound wrote:I have also taught swimming lessons from 5 year olds to Adults from since 14 ( people know my capabilities and thus entrust their lives and their childrens lives to me )

If your old enough to do negociate the transaction, your old enough to accept the responsbility. By whining "I'm only 13" is pretty much trying to get away with it.
If he cant be expected to actually follow through in an approriate manner at an appropriate time, then he's not old enough to be on dakka to do trades. Sorry, but thats the way it is.

We've been trying to roll out changes to hopefully improve things in the swap shop. Ketara's Reputable Traders List is a bit of a nice start, for instance. Admittedly a bit of extra caution isn't a bad thing to have.
If you all have any suggestions for improving the Swap Shop (short of trying to turn it into another Bartertown/etc), please post in the Swap Shop Suggestions Thread. We're happy to entertain any input from Dakkites!

Listen,
I know what I did was wrong. But I generally couldn't work my way around it. I don't expect the "Oh, he's just a kid." sympathy because I have traded before on Dakka and things ran very smoothly.
I did send various messages apologising for the delays.
Like I said before, I actually posted the models on Saturday- along with a few extra bitz to compensate.
I do not wish this to become a "Oh that's Jack, A.K.A Blightdron. He can't follow his trades up properly."
I also want to avoid any personal attacks on my maturity. I'm not someone to whine about it though, but if you honestly still feel that way, I apologise.
I have at no point said "I'm not able to deal with the responsiblity" because I would be lying. I am completely able to do so, and in all fairness to Athba I do understand why she got angry and asked for a refund.
(I'm not sitting here thinking "What's the problem with her?")
As a little reassurance, the models should arrive at your doorstep in about 2 days time.
Sorry for making any bad impressions and causing a huge inconvenience.
Cheers,
Jack
