No, you have to use common sense. Don't follow links that look suspicious. Hell, don't follow links that don't. If someone posted a link to dakkadakka I would be suspicious and I know the address. Nothing on 4chan shocks me. However, I have friends in the fetish scene (and I used to do fetish photography).
This is not to say that some of it doesn't turn my stomach (generally just the amount of bile and hate expectorated by the trolls.)

Let us not pretend that it doesn't occasionally migrate to the other boards. You are less likely to see it but eventually you will see it if you go there more than once, even it is just to /tg/.

The same could be said for Dakka. I don't doubt that someone, someday, will post porn or gore pictures here, and they will be deleted, won't they? 4chan does have moderators, you know, and they aren't slackers.

Yeah, I can remember the last time someone posted autopsy pics on Dakka. Same for porn. No, wait, I don't remember that ever happeneing as to opposed to /tg/ where it is every other day, unless /b/ is down for some reason. If it happened as much here as it did there Frazz would be deleting 2 or 3 posts a day. Telling people that it is perfectly safe there is disingenuous. You are absolutely still going to see things you probably wish you hadn't. Even if it is only every other day that is still a lot. /TG/ can be a great source of pics and inspiration but it is still 4chan.

I've met a lot of people that think this.

You don't just magically summon viruses when you browse a web page.

Been going to 4chan for years, no viruses yet and I use rapidshare a lot. That's like unprotected internet buttsecks.

Moot makes enough off of advertisement space to keep the sights servers running fairly consistently, and he's professed in time magazine that he would be willing to sell the sight for what be believes its worth given sight sales of other similarly trafficked webpages (If I remember right he wanted something like 200 million or so). However given the sights often times illegal (though protected) content most major advertisers aren't willing to touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Whats /b/? It sounds dreadful if all of those things are on there. Why doesn't anyone just shut it down? This doesn't sound like a place I would really want to frequent.

It's the 'random' board. No rules apart from no underage porn, where to get drugs, or any of that illegal stuff. The moderators there are flying rodent gak insane and people who actually post things there are usually stoned, drunk, or a fetishist.

After reading this thread i couldnt help it and i went on 4-Chan on random....it was..it was horrible.

First pic i saw was a cat, dead its stomach cut open, the next thing nearly made me puck im not sure what it was myself but i dont want to talk about it. Its horrible! There's alot more stuff but i think it would violate dakka rules to post them.

Advice stay away from 4-Chan!

Then don't click on /b/, for crying out loud. Avoid that and /d/, and you'll be fine. However, 4chan does have a corrupting influence on people...
