I am new to forums in general, and I have heard of 4-chan being brought up on many occasion, most of the time with an air of disdain.

I looked through their Wiki-file, which seems to be maintained by their users, although I do not know exactly how Wiki works in that respect. There was some genuinely scary stuff mentioned about 4-chan, but most of it was passed of as jestery... the kind of jestery that you mess around with your friends about, when you know there is no chance of someone taking you seriously...

Just thought I would get some feedback before I jump into what sounds like a genuine cesspool of internet discussion. I remember kids showing me all sorts of stuff on the interwebz when I was younger, but 4-chan could be the place where you link to all of it at once... pretty scary stuff in reality.

It really isn't as bad as people say. The only place to avoid is /b/, the 'random' board, which is where the bad stuff comes from. Goatse, gay porn, 2girls 1cup, BME pain olympics, etc. Stay away from it at all costs.

Oh, and the 'work-safe' and 'NSFW' boards are clearly marked, so you won't get caught looking at tentacle rape accidentally at work. As we're all wargamers here, you should go to the /tg/ (Traditional Games) board. It's all about Warhammer, MTG, D&D, etc. Lots of insults, flaming, and trolling goes around, but it's all good fun and you're always anonymous unless you choose to enter your name.

Oh, and don't go into /v/ (Video Games). It's a hole full of whiny PS3 powergamers who are utterly convinced that the Xbox is for 12-year-olds and old games suck. They're ripe for trolling though.

Most of the 40k humour you see around here (Angry Marines, Pretty Marines, the motivational posters, etc) are from 4chan. We've got a lot to thank them for.

So it is a place where people can yell stuff at eachother?

Even though they are labeled as work safe boards none of them are are as /b/ makes it's rounds occasionally and even w/o them going nutty you'll still get NSFW pics popping up in the tamest of boards.

Brace yourself for horrible racism, homophobia, and fetish. You will see pictures and read things things you can't unsee. That probably makes it much more enticing because now it seems like forbidden fruit but it isn't. If you really want to see pictures of autopsies, mangled dead bodies, or people defecating while trying to discuss why you think Sisters of Battle aren't celibate, then go ahead.

That isn't to say that it doesn't have it's moments either as you can find some really interesting and funny things there. Just be prepared to wade through a sewer to find a diamond.

Of course you need to be 18+ to go there, but usually if one isn't that again is all the more incentive to want to go.

You are allowed to express yourself to the fullest , however with the extreme stuff only allowed in /b/ this is a very smart idea , as it keeps all the worst of the kind in a very contained area.

Its a very helpful site , and you can probably get any answer you asked for , IF you word things nicely , as the average 4chan are bunch of angry geeks with too much teen hormone ( understandable )

There are definitly places you want to avoid (as I have learnt at a great cost to my mental health) but, as cheesey here says, just stick to /tg/ and you should be alright.

Stick to /tg/. It's certainly one of the more tame boards, but sometimes 40k porn manages to get through.

It's perfectly safe most of the time, there's just an 'Sexy Farseers' thread flying around a lot right now. I haven't clicked it, I promise.

I don't visit 4-chan very often, but /tg/ is pretty much always epic win. Just watch out for guro ... the wiki is awesome as hell though. Read all the 40K articles, ESPECIALLY ELDRAD'S ~!!
