No offence, but a few mods on here are just a waste of time.
Yes! We can gather all the mods up, put them in an arena, and have them fight it out. The one who wins gets to be the new Overlord of Dakka and can appoint mods at will. We will sell tickets for $10 and offer betting.
/sarcasm
In all honesty, I think the mods are doing a great job. Now, only if we could get a few of them over to the Bungie.net forums to "clean house".

We don't, this is private property, this is Yakface's back yard. He liked the folks who mod enough to ask them to mod. I think perhaps in our nice daily lives, we've been seeing too much eviction by popularity on reality tv shows, we are blurring this.
WE don't get a poll every week where we boot off the mod that we don't like much or certain frequent posters who, we feel, need to be ejected. The mods police according to the wishes of the owners of the site on a voluntary basis, they will take on board feedback regarding certain of the dakka membership and reconcile this against warnings issued, previous penalties dealt out and then discuss it between themselves to reach accord.
Personally I have no great issue with it. I've modded myself and it's fairly thankless and labour intensive and like all hobbies people extent into tasks, you have to be careful it doesn't kill your enthusiasm for the subject matter.

I've done admin work myself, as well as moderating. You ask for a heavier hand, but the second that a heavier hand is delivered, people start complaining that the mods ignore user feedback and do what they like. Evidence for this would be the reaction when us Swapmods were appointed. The second we started enforcing rules by altering titles and the like, some users immediately started kicking back. Thankfully, that ended once those users became aware of exactly what we were trying to accomplish, but it's a good example of what happens when people think mods are being too strict.
There's a fine line to walk between dictatorship, and 4chan, and as a frequent forum user across the interwebz, I've found that Dakka has the perfect balance. The atmosphere is light and relaxed, and whilst debate can get heated at times, I've never once seen a thread that's descended too far into '4chan syndrome'.
The mods always kick in in the nick of time, A Team style, dishing out warnings, humour, and pictures of cute asian girls in equal amounts.
See, the problem here is that I refuse to post specific events cause I dont want to drag people through the mud..so I cant counter everyones "examples."
However if I did post examples, I could FLOOD this topic of examples in supporting what im saying.

I doubt anyone will get offended if you post examples, trolls know who they are.
But what I like about Dakka is that people aint afraid to argue with the mods, unlike other forums where people instantly agree with mods for fear of getting banned.

Lord,
If I post examples, then those people will come in here and start a endless argument/namecalling session that will eventually lead to this topic being locked.
Id rather just bite the bullet on this one (So to speak) and keep the discussion civil.

Then go to the posts that offend, take the quotes from each followed by a link to each thread, compile this into what you believe to be a comprehensive series of evidence on the individual and post it to a mod you especially trust and request that it is brought up on the secret Mod board for discussion by the mods and admin of the site.
Basically, if you want to demonstrate something you think is happening, you should evidence it. It's not fair to point the finger at another user and cry 'J'accuse!' at them to a mod, you have to cite evidence on what you see them doing.
Since this sort of thing is very actively /reported it's likely already a subject of discussion on the Mod board, but another voice raised is another for/against in the discussion.
And waste his time with it? no offence, but i think its just a basic matter for a mod rather than yak.
If the mod ignores it then copy the message and drop it off to another mod.

I've modded and the general mindset is that you are the nazi and you are wrong. Mods are always wrong. They are the evil regime that suppress the truth and everything good about said forum.
That said, I like the mods here. Whenever I press the button I feel that I am being taken serious, even if some of my reports are a bit rude from time to time.

That's the truth, when I modded on the fish forums I was sometimes called the Fish-Nazi due to my strong stance on hybridisation and genetic manipulation of species (also for laying down the nightstick when there was too much squabbling). I was sometimes complained about to the Admins for it. It was almost my user name here.

I've only ever been ignored once, when I got called an illiterate limey bonesmuggling gay. Every other time I'd agree.

I think the mods do a good job, all things considered.
Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.
The mods are definitely more lax here than what I'm accustomed to for 40k; Warseer's mods look more like 'Forum inquisitors' in this sense. Unlike my experience in WS, there's a handful of posters around here that do get their threads locked relatively regularly and some seem to be very passive aggressive in their methods. Also don't much understand why a community would keep people who constantly troll and bitch @ eachother but thats not a decision for me to make; especially if they also post a heck of a lot.
I imagine moderating a forum isn't too different than managing people in real life or in online MMORPG guilds - lots of drama to deal with and decisions are harder to make the more bureaucrats there are.

I don't think the mods don't do enough. Actually, in some threads Fraz seemed to be rather trigger happy to me, though that might be related to the topic (you know the one I'm talking about).
And I got rickrolled once on Dakka. I think it was in Corpsesarefun's signature.
GBF, i think you just managed to prove that multilazor isnt the worsed writer and a few cheapshots in there, but i wouldnt expect any less from you
all in all, stelek had some great ideas, what let him down was the fact he couldnt post them without a few comments here and there to people.
His lists he writes are still pretty decent though.
quick removal lol
