A friend of mine is aiming for a full regiment of catachans (180 squads). He's on 120something at the moment I think.

I'd have gone nuts - it's not like they're great models in the first place.

I used to have a full Great Company with full Tank Support (no FW Stuff though) fully painted (albeit badly.)

Then the house had the nerve to catch fire Not fun for a 17 year old kid to go through (I had been collecting and painting since I was 9, playing since 11).

Oh man that would of killed me. The worst part about a situation like that, is all you can do is watch them burn.
I still have nothing on you guys in here. My army is small. about 2k points if I pushed hard lol. Someday tho. I have the shelf space for it thats for sure

My condolences, (though im sure time as healed things a little). If i were you i would have become a firefighter, just to get revenge!

I wish I could just pick 1 army and stick to it and have a huge force, but I just get too distracted by shiney new things and I keep getting new army ideas popping into my head and if I have the spare cash at the time it becomes my next impulse buy, like lizardmen and chaos marines. But I'm trying to stay focused now and have imperial guard and tyranids as my main armies. for IG I have around 6k pts but that includes a 1500 pt leviathan and 2 baneblades. Nids are around 4k. I'd love to see a fully painted company of marines in person, I just can't imagine ever being able to paint up that much stuff unless it was like a whole club all working on it together.

If you lived in New Orleans/Southern Louisiana about 5-8 years ago, you could have gone into Galactic Games and seen 4 or 5 of them: Dark Angels 2nd, 3rd, 4th(mine), 5th, and 10th Companies. We were going to collectively work on the 1st and someone was working on the 6th before the project(entire Chapter, I was going to next start the 8th, may still) fell apart(people moved[including me] and some of us had falling outs with other members).

I don't much see the point of anything over 4K or 5K points in a finished army. I would much rather have 3K points of finished models in each of several armies, than 35K of one army.

Depending on the struture of the army, 4k or 5k might make sense as a general upper limit - after some point it becomes a lot more of the very same stuff. However, for some armies, they can scale much larger due to having greater variety of units.

Your Orks, Necrons, IG and SM probably won't scale much past 4k, simply due to the uniformity of the army - Boyz, Necrons, Guardsmen, and Tacticals. Your Tau are like this, too.

Your Chaos and Eldar can scale much larger, especially if you want to double up on Eldar Aspects and Cult Marines. Guard Squadrons can have a similar effect on bumping points up. And then, there are Apoc datasheets...

OTOH, if you're mostly Tournament-focused, you'll never need more than 2k worth of any given army, as tournaments don't go past 2k very often.

In my case, I went with several "complete" armies for Apoc, to cover each of the core 40k army archetypes: Guard, Eldar, SM, & Chaos Marines, with Sisters & Inquisition as adjunct forces on the side. But of these, only my Eldar is much larger than 5k, and that's because I have lots of Aspects, doubled units of nearly everything in the Codex.

Hi about 5k of chaos including a baneblade but next to none of its painted and one or two models are'nt even assembled properly. so nowhere near as big as some people.

One of the guys in our group (I don't think he posts on here) has a VERY large marine army.

It's not painted.

But I'm sure he has an entire chapter (With the exception of the bike one where he is only half way I think).

And A LOT of tanks.
Like 10-20 of each marine variant.

Did someone say 90K points of Cadians? That dude is my new nemesis/Idol. And look we are both in the same part of the world. I probably have one of the largest armies in South Korea. Can someone set up a game?
