Hey! I'm not dead! Infact, I've been very busy, but only with things I can't share on Dakka. I'll get right to the point: I haven't been satisfied with the Black Hound's chapter organization. They aren't quite codex, but aren't unique either. I decided to rectify this problem, and in doing so have basically invalidated all my previous work. I'm not just posting for my ego; I need some feed back and help. Now bear with me, these are notes straight from the notepad document.
Black Hounds: Assault and rapid mobilization specialists.
Iron Hands successor. Not 21st founding. Keeps Iron Fathers.
Chapter Division: Clan system similiar to Iron Hands. 7 Clans. Each is self sufficient and consists of near 100 Marines.
Genetic mutations: Larraman's Organ constantly produces Larraman Cells, closing wounds instantly. Black Hounds do not bleed.
The combination of mutation and high bionic usage lead to a low mortality rate among Adepts and Veterans.
It is easy for a Neophyte's Larraman's Organ to become too active, causing massive blood clots. Recruitment survival rates are far lower than other Chapters.
Scouts: Neophyte. No Snipers, same load-out as Adepts except Power Armor.
Many Techmarines, chosen just before indoctrination into Adept. Techmarines mixed with Adepts, not specific office.
Tacticals and Assault Marines combined: Adept
Lacks Devastators. Infantry are for close combat, heavy weapons are for vehicles.
Bikers are the veterans. Culmination of Chapter's idiology. Must be a Techmarine.
Veterans who are not Techmarines become Sternguard/Vanguard equals. Full Armory access, including Terminators.
Iron Fathers are the highest rank of Techmarine. They are on par with Librarians. They jointly lead Companies.
Warforged: Ancient, nearly entirely bionic heroes. They can superceede Iron Fathers and Librarians, but do not lead the company outside of battle.
Mental state similar to Dreadnoughts, but they get even less rest.
Motorpool consists of smaller, faster vehicles.
No Razorbacks: prefer getting more infantry into close combat to a heavy weapon.
Dislikes Vindicators and Whirlwinds: seige weapons are counter to their philosophy.
Landraiders are scarce but revered. Difficult to transport quickly, but benefit to assault is unquestionable.
Landspeeders, Rhinos and Predators. Thunderhawks extensively used for instant redeployment.
Drop Pods are not utalised because they prevent assault, but more importantly redeployment.
Dreadnoughts are chosen from the Warforged by Iron Father and Librarian Tribunal.
Librarians scry the warp for signs from the Emperor that a Warforged deserves elevation, and the Iron Fathers build the Dreadnought.
Location: Fourth'rin System, on the eastern fringe of the Imperium.
9 Planets. 6 inhabited by the Black Hounds, 1 capital planet where the humans live.
Each clan is named after the planet they inhabit.
-The two dead worlds are called Alpha and Beta. They are closest to the sun. They are inhabitable.
-The third world has a largely magnesium crust, and is constantly on fire during the day. The Magneese Clan lives under the surface and can only leave
during the night when the surface fires die down.
-The fourth world is iron with large honeycombs of adamantium. It has an atmosphere and surface living space for Space Marines.
Neophytes are housed underground for their safety. The Adamant supply most of the Chapter's adamantium, giving them a powerful bargaining chip.
-The fifth world is Fourth'rin Prime, the human capital planet. (Just as described in The Fall.)
-Sixth planet is a death world, covered in vegitation.
-The seventh
-The eight
-Nineth planet is Itinerant, a gas planet with 48 moons. Nomadic people and level headed, the squads train seperate from each other.
Highest ranking members always isolating themselves when not on a campaign: take trips to less trodden moons.
Nikolii's Renegades.
No Talons. 3 Thunderhawks. 3 Predators, 80 Marines in various states. 5 Rhinos.
As you can see I'm missing 3 planets. If you look closely enough, you'll notice 2 Clans have to share a planet. I intended to stick them together, each with half the manpower of any other clan because they had a schism. They've been relegated to supporting the other clans out of contempt after schism. I don't know why they had a schism yet, and I can't remember what planet they shared (I think it was the sixth, as I have something written there). I don't have names for them, or really any back story. I haven't even really thought about the other two clans yet. By the way, Nikolii gets shipped off to Itinerant.
Another thing I'm debating is making Stormravens a cannon part of their motor-pool. As can be seen
here, at the battle of Kraazgrug's Folly Stormravens were utilized by a chapter outside the Blood Ravens or Grey Knights. With ties so close to the Iron Hands, and indeed Mars itself, getting the
STC for Stormravens isn't entirely out of the question. While I don't like the ship myself, it is a perfect tool for the Black Hound's style of warfare.
Anything too Marry Sue, or not Grimdark enough?
