Well, armour plate would be the easiest solution, but with good gs skills cutting out the seam and re-sculpting would work. Depending on how massy you're making the legs you could even gs over the seam. What were you thinking of in terms of the mechanical loin-cloth? Could the same concept be carried round to rear of model?

Erh... Maybe it's not that into the general style of the army, but you could add tails to them... They're Daemon Princes after all, they can get something that's more awesome than the regular ones!!!

I had considered tails... Maybe something small. All spiky. Hmmm. Hmmmmmmmm.

My problem with adding armor is that it's going to look like a diaper. I did some mockups and it just ends up looking like I'm trying to cover up his private parts. Leaving it alone isn't a solution either--If I just carve out the seam and make it look more defined it's just going to look a little obscene. I mean, the bloodletter butts look natural and not-provocative. Hmmm.

Maybe I'll make a tail or two and see what I can come up with.

Also, I'd like to add little bumps to all the skin portions of these guys to help tie them in with the bloodletters. You know, like the ones the bloodletters have on their backs and upper arms/legs? I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to do that. Any tips?

Updates!

These are shots of the current state of my daemon princes. I'm trying to decide if I like the cables looking that... Bulky I guess. They stick out pretty far from the body. I was thinking about clipping them off the legs and tying them into a power pack on their backs and connecting that to the power cord running up their backs. Thoughts? Basically they could potentially look like... Santa right now. That's right, Santa. I need outside thoughts.

BTW these photos brought to you by the photo booth from http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/303073.page. For 25 bucks including shipping it's probably one of the best buys I've ever made. It's awesome.

Sooooo... Comments on the guys?

Personally I think it looks good the way you're going, although may depend on what you've decided to do with the seam. If I got it right you're thinking of having cables from waist to back? That doesn't feel right to me, but I may well have got the wrong end of the stick there- it happens

They're Ogres from the fantasy line.

I've decided to carve out the seam and either give them some sort of loin cloth or just let it be. The Bloodletter have ass cheeks. So can the Princes.

I'm still soliciting feedback for the cabling thus far though.

I think the cabling on them works fine. My opinion, either they should have the cables now or multiple smaller ones.

just my two cents.

Well after a week of waffling over what to do with the cabling and the seam on their butts (All the while working and doing class and being married etc) I made some serious headway tonight. I was dinking around with some of the extra bits I had laying around and this is what I came up with. These guys are now ready for arms with weapons and heads. After all that's done I'll go to work with the green stuff.

Some of the photos I took tonight were kind of fuzzy so you only get one level shot--The rest are more topdown.

In any case these are coming along nicely! I'm super happy with how they turned out. You can probably see that I drilled out two small holes towards the top of the power pack on their back. I'll run small cables from them to the back of their arms. Bwuahahhaha! Very happy.

In any case--Looking for comments/suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Here we go with some updates! Here are shots of the three Tzeentch Princes with Bolt/Gaze represented by two guns apiece. I plan on adding cables from the guns to the power pack on their back. I had to pull off the spiky bits from the waist--They looked cool but interfered with the placement of the arms. The models definitely seem bulky enough now--I was worried they'd look too weedy In any case, heading to the pool for my birthday party. Will be working vigorously on the Nurgle Princes tomorrow and should get some shots up tomorrow night/Tuesday. And as always, comments/suggestions/criticisms are welcome--Thanks in advance!

Any further thought on how you're going to do the heads? I'm liking the idea of blank, faceless masks but wondered if anything else had come up.

I'm pretty set on blank metal masks with some sort of simple trim on them. It'll show the mouth but that's it.

I've also decided that I'm going to go back through all my other models and give them all a blank metal mask. I realized looking at my Fiends that you can't really tell that their eyes have been removed. I could shave away their eyebrows and then it'd be obvious but I'm thinking I'd rather have everyone be uniform--In the sense that everyone has a blank metal mask over their eyes

Anyone have any links to a sculpting tutorial that's similar?

And thanks for the input!

I guess, you just have to fill in the eye sockets & mouths, then smooth out everything!!! Shouldn't be that hard with proper tools (well, until I try it anyway uh... Easier said than done!)

Someone had a great armor sculpting tutorial where they converted Bloodletters more upright and put armor on them. Now for the life of me I can't find the link. Anyone remember the link I'm talking about?

I waffled a *lot* over whether or not to do the heads like Catpeeler had done or to just hollow out the eyes and keep the full heads. On one hand I like the slick, Doom-like feeling of the rounded heads but I love the actual Bloodletter heads--I think they look excellent and have tons of detail.

So yeah, current plan would be to sculpt some type of armor over their upper faces and tops of their heads. I think it'll look great if done properly. It'll probably be a ridiculous amount of extra work but *shrug*. If I saw another awesome idea I'd definitely consider it though... *Cough* hint *Cough*

Thanks again!

Definitely do something to the Ogre's shoes. With those intact, they are very obviously ogres. I might also smooth out the patchwork stitching. In their current iteration, they just look like some badass ogryns.

Other than that, looking great so far.

Very good idea from Monkeytroll, that would look pretty horrible on anything demonic.

@Monkeytroll and Ifalna:

Hmmmm, interesting concept. Instead of doing an armor plate just smooth out all of the face--No eyes or noses at all, just flat skin. Hmmmm. I might have to try it out on a test model or two and see what I can come up with.

@Chrysaor686:

My plan is to either green stuff the seams on the shoes so that they look like one-piece boots OR to use green stuff and make it look like the bottom metal plate is grafted onto the flesh of their feet. I'm leaning towards option two. With some good Dremel tooling and green stuff to make it look more like flesh I think it'll look great. I also plan on adding rough bumps like what you see on a Bloodletter to their backs and upper arms along with a lot of other green stuff to the flesh so they're less obviously Ogres.

Ugh. My cats chewed through my camera cord and I don't have a card reader. I hate lots of updates on my Nurgle Princes to post but no way to get them off the flipping camera!

I still need some help with the heads. Should I modify Ogre heads? Use Ork heads that have helmets and just green stuff off the front area? Sculpt helmets from scratch? I'm at the point where all I've got left is to do the heads and they'll be finished. Looking for *ANY* suggestions at all so I can move forward with these.

Cats and wires: a match made in heaven

For the bumps, how about applying pva glue with a cocktail stick, the way some some peeps make rivets?
Not sure on the heads, but think it should be other than the ogre heads. Orky heads might be feasible, have you finalised the look you want, sounds like you're going for helmets? If so maybe some kind of conical plastic bit (pen lids the only practical example I can think of off the top of my head, but I was about to go to bed ) GS'd over a head. Maybe a marine shoulder pad?

There's obviously a large amount of green stuff work to do and some grinding/shaping/smoothing with the dremel but... They're almost done! I really like the way the heads turned out. Once the back of their heads get filled in I think it'll look just right. Photos fixed btw--I was using a wrong lamp for lighting.
