Absolutely correct Albatross.

How can they not get up for this. It is the WORLD CUP for goodness sake. It doesn't get any bigger, this is THE footballing event.

Lampard is a big problem imho and never seems to play for England like he does for Chelsea. Sorry to say this as he is a quality player but he never makes the grade when wearing an England shirt.

The rest of the midfield gets out of kilter to accomadate lampard and Gerrard. Get Joe Cole on he is a player with flair and imagination so desperately lacking thus far and as yet has only exercised his buttocks on the bench, whilst his mates fart around on the pitch.

Well they call the England squad a 'dream team'. Ok, does this mean they are should be playing like they are asleep?

The trouble with Lampard is that he plays a very specific way for his club, and is forced to play in a different way for his country. Gerrard had a really gak season for Liverpool and, imo, should not be playing. Lampard is much better at the 'attacking-midfielder' role and should play alongside Barry.

The main problem with England is their utter reluctance to do something different; frankly, Walcott should be in the squad, he has the ability to come on from the bench and change the game; if not through sheer pace, then through forcing the opposition to deal with him. Same goes for Milner and Defoe; They both offer something different from the usual formulaic build-up play and should be used as such!

Frankly; feth England. I'm following the USA and New Zealand from now on. Both are far more entertaining to follow

Sorry to single Lampard out when they have all been so poor, but he always gives the ball away.

Take your point about his Chelsea role though.

The point was that there seems to be a problem with both Gerrard and lampard in the team, which unbalances the team.

But definitely agree about not shaking things up. Look how the USA turned it around froo 2 -0 down! Can't see Capello doing similar

Walcott was dropped because he couldnt follow orders. During trials for England caps he repeatedly refused instruction and did his own thing. So Capello dropped him. Walcott is appently really good but he was seen as a liability.

I wonder if it was the right decision, a maverick yes, but fairly well behaved and at least he has fire.

Can't believe he booked Nelsen for time wasting at the end. The penalty was also a bit harsh imo; especially remembering what the Slovenia players were doing to the USA when they had that goal disallowed :(

Congrats to the Kiwis!

Gratz to the USA finishing top of the group
England should have had more goals from what I heard.

Will be hilarious if Germany finish 2nd now but somehow doubt it.

I watched the last 40 minutes live.

Our guys were playing much better than before. Passing was tighter, and they were a lot more aggressive. Their defensive play was also good and there was some good ball skills.

Rooney was very well marked by the Slovenes, who were never out of the game. England got quite a few shots and were unlucky not to score. Rooney got a great shot in and the Slovene goalie just managed to touch it with his fingertips. This was enough to make it hit the post.

So it's a match up against the Germany world allstars (seriously how many foreigners are in that squad?) next Sunday then. If we play like we did today then there is every chance we can progress, but we must score mmore goals.

Heres to 4 days of hype featuring WW2 related humour and casual racism, oh well they deserve it, they bombed our chip shop...

Apparently Japanese scientists have done statistical analysis of 100 years of World Cup matches and discovered that this is an important factor in the chances of success.

For you Tommy, ze Vorld Cup is over!

(one for the generation that grew up on the likes of Victor comics and Commando books! )

As usual 1hadhq!
But of course we will play brilliantly against you, hitting the woodwork countless times and your goalie playing a blinder, only to lose on the accursed penalties

If all goes to current form however, we will give the ball away far too easily and be unable to get it back!

The Jerries looked smart to me tonight, but I think I would prefer to play them over the Ghanians; who would be a might too quick for our prematurely aging midfield.

England looked good for thier win today, should have been in the bag by half time but for some great keeping.

The Yanks looked to have much the same sort of game to us, they were all over Algeria like a cheap suit but couldn'y quite nail it (until the 92nd minute anyway).

Typical you wait two weeks for a good game a three roll along on the same day.

Also well done Aussies for the win.

I'm not too bothered about facing The Hun, to be honest. They don't look as good this time around as they have in previous years. They will play a fairly open game, unlike the poorer sides we have played thus far, who have really only concentrated on keeping us out. This gives us a chance.

Congratulations to the USA, but I don't envy them playing Ghana.

@Squilvo - I know what you mean mate - I was looking at their team going 'polish, turkish, polish, brazilian, GHANAIAN...oh look! A German!'.

1 Manuel NEUER born in Germany
2 Marcell JANSEN born in Germany

4 Dennis AOGO born in Germany, of Nigerian descent
5 Serdar TASCI born in germany, of Turkish descent
6 Sami KHEDIRA born in Germany, father is Tunisian
7 Bastian SCHWEINSTEIGER born in Germany (how could he not be with a name like that!)
8 Mesut OEZIL born in Germany, of Turkish descent
9 Stefan KIESSLING born in Germany
10 Lukas PODOLSKI born in POLAND
11 Miroslav KLOSE born in POLAND
12 Tim WIESE born in Germany
13 Thomas MUELLER born in Germany
14 Holger BADSTUBER born in Germany
15 Piotr TROCHOWSKI born in POLAND

Adam Johnson should be there, i have no doubt about that.

And Lampard sucks.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Going by the last time england and the US faced off in africa (Suez Crisis), and considering in the US game England were embarrassing. I think you may be onto something there.

I don't think he SUCKS, but he shouldn't be playing through the middle instead of Gerrard. And yes, Adam Johnson should be there. He would give the team balance.

Nice, love the action.

Blame the ball or the referee?

Aye it was poor that the disallowed goal was clearly over the line, i could see that without the replay!

But... the German team looks more professional, and letting them score direct from a goal kick is schoolboy stuff, so the English team certainly dont deserve the scores to be tied as far as im concerned.

2-1 seems about fair to me.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.
