If they go renegade do you think that should be classed as 'other circumstances'?

Do the Original Chaos Legions count?

Mantis warriors and Lamenters I would say count as the Battle loss. Older Fluff puts both of them as barely their.

Also Sons of Vengeance and Silver Guard are mentioned in the current Chaos codex as having gone renegade

I don't think Chaos count, but I think non-Choas renegade do...

The reason for that is I think they would be classed as Heretics and not as Other Circumstances...

SOV and SG have gone renegade and chaos? Or just renegade?

I think there is a guy on here who is doing a Mantis warriors army...could get his view...will look them all up anywho!

According to newer fluff enough of the Mantic Warriors and the Lamenters survived to do a penitent crusade both are apparenly ongoing.
The Lamenters went straight into a Hive fleet because that's how their luck works and the Mantis Warriors are messing about in the Maelstrom trying to catch all the Red Corsairs.

yes you are right, both survived to begin their crusade. but In the book Warrior Brood, I believe, it is said that their are only a few hundred of them at most. Also same thing goes for the Lamenters.

Also on top of that somewhere back in 3rd ed, It was stated that neither chapter could recruit new Marines until their crusade was done.

seeing as the Badab War starrted in 901M41 and lasted till roughly 913M41 and then begin their hundred year crusade. so a Lamenters or mantis warrior chapter being built could be placed at before this time, which would be ok seeing as their was a whole that happened before this or even after their crusade which would put them at the point of rebuilding their forces right about the time of Hive Fleet Leviathans approach into the galaxy.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
You know, thinking about it. my point is almost moot. yes the two chapters were practically wiped out and stayed that way for a bit. but it was only the span of 100 years. after which they could begin rebuilding. so maybe 1000 or so years to be completely rebuilt?

There are literally over 40 renegade chaos chapters listed on Lexicanum...

However ones like the Soul Drinkers stand out as not exactly Chaotic...so I think they would qualify as part of the 'other'...

Any one know any chapters that are renegade but not chaos?

Thats a False statement.

As far as the SoB eradicating them, that comes from a single picture in the rogue traitor book of a SOB blasting a Rainbow Warrior marine. No fluff was written about the chapter, but allot of people believe this one picture represents the fall of the Rainbow warriors, in my opinion the SOB in the pic looks evil and has the word "Sister Sin" on her armor, with I think may point in the direction of corrupt sisters.

so in short they were just never elaborated on and forgotten by GW

Black Dragons are still around. And it hasn't killed them. They actually encourage mutation. Lamenters still have a company. left. Same with scythes of the emperor have at least 3 companies left too.

Very True. Like I said with Lamenters it was only for about 1000 years that they were reduced in strength.

The Black Dragons are still very much functional, The Inquisition doesn't like their mutation but they haven't taken actions against them for it either.

The Hardest part about this whole project is taking the whole 10+ milleniums that Space Marines have been around and trying to find Chapters that have been reduced in strength etc. Hell I am pretty sure their isn't a single chapter that is at full strength at any given time.

Hey Guys thanks for all the comments:

Toeko: I can't comment on the SOB purging, but in the new SM codex on the system map you have a 'records deleted' with the rainbow warriors symbol...

IvanTih: Yes, I found the Celestial Lions this morning by chance! Thanks!

Asherian Command: You're right...I didn't list them as destroyed just as Gene Seed failure...I don't think those two are necessarily linked (see BA and SW)

Toeko: Yes you're right - but we are going for the ones that are going full throtle towards extinction...i.e. probably less than 100 marines....

I read yesterday that the Rainbow Warriors symbol actually appeared in Space Crusade...checked it last night (I bought over the tiles when I came over here from the UK) and yep they do.

Should the defective Gene Seed include the Space Wolves and the Blood Angels? Obviously they fit in no other category...
