I’m happy you like those bikers and I will try to hold his level with the rest of his army.
I see you like those freehands on my bikers so during painting I made few photos and wrote a little tutorial.
For starters those freehands aren’t that complicated as they look but I suggest to plan them well and maybe practice few times on paper. When I started painting freehands I often have drawn them first with a pencil an then started working with paints.
The first step is to paint the basic pattern as you can see on this photo.
The next step is to underline the pattern with a color that you will see on the painted surface as you can see on the next picture.
I used Valejo Goblin Green but as a comparison in a Saim Han Eldar army you can use a mix of Blood Red and Bleched Bone (the proportions are 1:1). The underline must be done so that when you look from the side of this canopy, it will be under the dark line of the pattern (look at the finished picture).
The final step is to accent the underlines with much brighter color. I used Rooting Flesh and when painting Saim-Han you can make it with Bleched Bone mixed with Blood Red but in proportions of 2:1 or 3:1 if you like. The tricky part is to paint only those places when the lines cross or combine as you can see on this photo. Also at this moment look at the finished model so you can see what I am talking about.
So I hope its an easy way to make your models interesting and I hope that this will help you fellow painters. As you can see on the photos its not abut blending but doing it clean especially on smaller models because there mistakes will be more visible.
If you have some questions just ask them

Guarding Guardian

Hi
It has been a long time since I posted something, but now I started to paint my Eldar Guardians. I wanted them to my army so I changed the standard Biel Tan scheme and swapped white with grey. My goal is to paint them on the same level as my Jet Bikers and I hope they will look ok. Here you can see some photos of the progress I made so far.
On those guys I managed to paint some NMM's but there is still some work to be done.
And here it the rest of my 10 strong squad. As you can see I managed to paint the armor plates and their suits. The next step is to paint weapons and some small NMM details.
Regards,
RED

Hi.
I have finished those Eldar Guardians and here you have some photos. I hope you like them and don't hate me for them hehehe :bonk:
Now I'm working on a weapon Platform for this squad and hopefully I will finish it tomorrow.
When I will finish that platform I will start painting a Grey Knight Terminator or our Brush Brothers Competition. I will post a step by step tutorial how to paint one so I hope you will like this.

Wow. Great looking models man, the bases are excellent and very subtle (which I like), whilst the painting is top notch. I'm a big Eldar fan and you're doing a great job on them; the painting is so smooth and well-done, particularly on the gems and lenses. Great job.
Can't wait to see more.

I can't get enough of that fire dragon - simply beautiful.
Quick technique question if you don't mind, When you shade so you use those colours you sepcified and make it into a wash or do you paint the shade in?
Not sure that makes sense but hopefully you know what i'm trying to say.
Thanks

Not an easy question but I will try to answer because or me the simplest way to show this technique it a demonstration. I generally paint using wet blending or glazes. With wet blending there is no need to make washes or something like that because you mix wet paint on the painted surface. here you can see a basic tutorial ho to wet blend http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1058-blending-tutorial and here you can find something about Glazes http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2009/12/tutorial-working-with-glazes.html. As or me almost always I start from the darkest collor and then i build up to the brightest so i get deep shadows and strong hihlights. You can make thouse shades with a wash but it depends what effect you are searching for.
Hope this will help you and sorry for the confusing answer but It's to late for me . I you have some other questions about painting fell free to ask and I'l try to help or point you the way.

These models are absolutely fantastic! I love the bright, clean colours. The "cracked" effect on the bike canopies and the blue reflective surfaces on the guns are brilliant.
I have a minor complaint. The eyes on your fire exarch get a bit lost because the red lens and the red below the lens blend together, making it look like a very large, round eye.
But overall I'm stunned, and can't wait to see more.

Nice to you joined up REDAV! I'm the guy who has been harrasing you on the blog to join and demanding to know which head you used on the green marine lol -
Guys, I can only say you are in for a treat, these guys are spectacularly good - I bought one of their pieces just to study their NMM technique, it was flawless -
You can see what I did to the base and the damaged wing if youll recall from the ebay sale Redav (if it was you I spoke to and not someone else?)
Anyways, top, top, top quality work, and their site is great as well, they are very generous with their techniques!
May have to come see you again to commision another piece btw -

Mastiff@ - quite a good complaint and I think the red suit below the lens could be changed to green but at the time I painted him i thought it would bring to much chaos to this miniature. Maybe I will experiment further when I'l paint his squad. I have so many Eldar models that I do not know when will I paint them and i recently started a Dark Eldar force so there is much work to be done.
MajorTom11@ - I'm happy you like my Sanguinor and it was bad news for me that he got damaged in that package. I see you personalized him quite well and I hope he suits your army well. As for top quality painting I'm painting o my maximum level from time to time and sometimes I can take commissions.
Now I will be painting a grey knight or our Grey Knight Competition and after this guy I'm planing to paint a 5 strong GK Terminator squad or sale and after that there will be the New Demon Prince and Kaldor Draigo. I will make some tutorials on those miniatures and I will post them for you in this forum.

Thanks for the links redav. I do try wet blending when I paint but I usually mess it up some how or other.
Another quick Q then...do you use a drying retarder?
I bought some and was amazed to find it come out like a gel. I thought it would make my paint runny.

Hangfire@ - no problem. As for the drying retarder yeas i do have one and it is a Vallejo Retarder Medium. I have used it many times and it prolongs the drying process so you can mix the paint on your models much easier. I think it dosent work with a wet pallete but on a normal one its ok. Recently I swaped my standard pallete or a wet one and it realy helps to paint because you can live the paint over night and it dosient dry out and its yeasier to make glazes and keep the same level of dilution. here you have a link to a tutorial how to make one http://thebrushbrothers.blogspot.com/2010/11/wet-palette.html. And here you have a link to my Wet Blendint tutorial http://thebrushbrothers.blogspot.com/2010/11/blood-angels-sanguinor-work-in-progress.html. I hope this will help.
