I played kill team for the first time last night at my FLGS as a 'teaching' tool for someone who hadn't played before but inherited a bunch of Tyranids. I've only being playing 40k for a couple of months now so I'm still a newbie myself. Anyway, I fielded 4 Necron destroyers got first turn and chewed up 4 out of a 5 man legion of damed squad. He managed to stay in the game by passing his leadership test. It was a three way and the guy we were showing the ropes started running a boat load of gaunts and Genestealers at me. He had to pass through a lot of difficult terrain to get to me so I just sat there and pelted him. Even with the cover saves I whittled him down by 50% before he even got near me. This may be the one place where necrons shine...12 36" S6 guass shots make my day...

I tend to like the basic Killteam set out by Battle Missions. The 4th ed is heaps of fun, but pretty complex. I'm working one into an IG v Tyranid Campaign we're playing, the winner gets a small bonus in the next match.

Any ideas what 200 points of IG should be taking to tackle 200 points of Tyranids?

List 4:
5 man Sternguard Squad
1 Razorback
2 Combi-Meltas
2 Combi-Flamers
1 Power Weapon

i thought you could only take vehicles with a total armour value of no more than 30, it's vaguely touched on slightly if memory serves.
So Front+Side+Back=30
A Razorbak is 11+11+10=32 and a Dread is 12+12+10=34
Then again you could always house rule it so you can use them.
But it's not too much of an issue since i use:
10x Fire dragon
Exarch, Firepike, Crackshot

Killteam blows donkey.

The missions are incredibly lopsided with the mission objectives making the actual game nearly unnecessary. The game only ever ends when one side is wiped out because 40k leadership is so high.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

You take penalties to leadership each subsequent turn, right? So LD10 goes to LD 7 pretty quick...

As for the missions, Kill Team requires house rules, as the meager guidelines set by GW are pretty flimsy. King of the Hill, Assassianation, Objectives and more are all possible in Kill Team, you just need a framework to play in.

Well, at least it's not as bad as 4th Ed KT rules. Every time I played, the attacking team always always won. It was physically impossible for them to lose.

Yeah, but we weren't using 4th KT where the brute squads have "activation states" and random movement.

Or am I missing something here?

Right behind you. No, really.

I love killteams.
I run 3 battlesuits w/ plasma and burst cannons, multitracker, one with team Leader, targetting array.
comes out to 195.

It works awesome. 6 plasma shots at 200pts and 9 s5 shots in the smae turn is amazing.
The plasma takes care of the armor lists, and the bursts wreck the horde lists.

I have really wanted some support for Kill teams. With a few tweaks and added objectives, with campaign and tourney support, Kill Team has the potential to be a blast. Nicely painted and converted models with low entry means you could have a kill team for every army for the same cost as a single normal 40k force.

Indeed. I want to start GK, IG and Eldar, but I don't know if I'll EVER get around to it. Unless I play KILL TEAM!!

Kill-team in my eyes is the best way to start a new army, cause you can work with the colour schemes on a small group of troops, you can actually play a game with them. and by starting small you get into the action faster.

As far as I know the only rules for them are in White Dwarf and the 4th Edition of Warhammer 40k rulebook

There aren't any in AoBR if that's where you're looking.... unfortunately, because it's a great gameplay style.

The raptor jetpacks look freaking insane, but that would obviously be affected by how much you like resin, and whether your kill-team will actually have jetpacks.

I'd think a mix would be nice, so get the 5-5 option (and then you can always give me your spare raptors as casualties to stick on my latest terrain ) with the right bitz, you'll have enough base variety to make it truly awesome!

Love Kill Team. My gaming group makes a point of recommending kill team to any new players who are interested in getting in to it, but don't want to shell out too much money. We do use the Battle Missions Kill Team rules though, so yeah...

The one I currently run is this.

Stormtrooper Squad
Sergeant w/ Power Weapon & Furious Charge
Storm Trooper w/ Hellgun
Storm Trooper w/ Hellgun
Storm Trooper w/ Hellgun
Storm Trooper w/ Hellgun

Veterans

Sergeant w/ Shotgun
Veteran w/ Sniper Rifle
Veteran w/ Sniper Rifle
Veteran w/ Plasma Gun & Feel No Pain
Missile Launcher Team & Relentless
Veteran w/ Lasgun
Veteran w/ Lasgun
Veteran w/ Lasgun
Veteran w/ Lasgun
