There is some kind of twisted logic in that.

Fight Club, The Fountain, Inception, Brazil, The Prestige, The Usual Suspects. All great endings.
No Country for Old Men..I kinda felt was the opposite. The very last scene was good, but I felt like they built up a ton of dramatic tension over the first bulk of the movie and then entirely lost steam for the last part.

Well, you kind of missed the point of the car crash. Anton walks into the sunset in the end, but he's badly wounded. It's supposed to give a glimmer of hope that evil can still be defeated, even in a cold and unforgiving universe that seems to be run by the forces of chance.

Yes! A thousand times yes! By far my favorite ending to any movie. I love tragic endings.
Orlanth wrote:I will try for a definitive answer:

According to this: Ankle Biters. The single worst movie I ever watched. This was actually available at Hollywood Video when they were still open (I worked there, so I didn't have to pay for it, else I would have NEVER rented it). It was funny at the time, but in retrospect, it was excruciatingly bad. The plot? Midget vampires on a quest to obtain a mythical sword to bring about the age of giant vampires (of which there was one in the movie. He was about 6'4" tall) set in a modern city (forget which one, probably for the best).
To add to the collective list:
A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints
Everything Is Illuminated
Wayne's World
Hamlet 2
Big Man Japan
Burn After Reading
Just remembered another one: Black Dynamite

Huh. Burn after reading. The majority of that movie WAS a chore to sit through, but a few of the scenes, especially near the end, had me in tears, and I thought the very final scene almost made it all worth it. Then again, I may have been drunk at the time.

This. One thousand times this. I am upset that I was beaten to the punch, but THIS!!!!
Fight Club was pretty good to, but not nearly as good as The Mist.
Another good one: Bourne Ultimatum.
I also enjoyed the ending of Michael Clayton, dunno, just thought it was artfully done.

+1 for The Mist, I actually didn't like the movie as a whole very much, but the ending pretty much made up for it... probably my most favorite "depressing song" soundtrack tune.
+1 for burn after reading... I work in a very similar field to those geniuses, and both my wife and i were rolling laughing the whole time, because we saw how our work works.
Also enjoyed Law Abiding Citizen (the one with Leonidas from 300 in it), something about that ending just worked brilliantly.
Boondock Saints, the whole movie is ridiculously awesome, and the ending... i mean, taking out a mafia boss in a courtroom is just awesome.
Some honorable mentions:
Mr. Brooks
Spy Game
The Godfather (i know that this is regarded as one of the best movies of all time, and it is, the ending was right for this movie, i just dont think it was as good as some of the others i mentioned)

I think the main reason I loved Burn After Reading is for the fact that, at the end, no one has learned a lesson, no one has come any further in life, there was no ultimate experience for (mostly) anyone, and all because an insecure woman wanted plastic surgery (along with oodles of misunderstandings).

I totally have the urge to call anyone I don't like "Friendo" after that scene. Never knew eating peanuts could be so intimidating.
Must see The Mist now definitely! The short story was one of King's best.
If we're talking movies we were glad to just see the end of, mine would have to be Punch Drunk Love. Of course I cheated and left within the first 20 minutes of it. Best ending is a self-made one!

Do it. The rest of the film isnt great (not bad, just not great), but the ending is pure win!
