Personally i'm a fan of desert Punk! I've not watched much Anime but i found it to be fast paced and funny, highly enjoyable watching!

I wont admit to saying I have accused an Amine as being a cartoon or a cartoon as an Anime because currently I havnt, and as i said in an earlier post the original concept of what I view as a cartoon/anime was vague, theres alot more to it than how long a story lasts such as origin, art style and other things.

I dont want this thread to turn into an "OMG! The op thinks (insert cartoon name here) is an anime! What an idiot", I normally can tell the difference between an anime and a cartoon.

A few people think its based on origin, anime from Japan and cartoons from western contries, this is not the view I follow.

The view I follow is if the story lasts for more than 5 episodes its classed as an anime, anything shorter or has no story is a cartoon.

So Family Guy, The Simpsons, Tom and Jerry in that aspect are all cartoons to me.

Bleach, Naruto, Ghost in the Shell are all animes.

Your OP contradicts itself, then you continue to contradict yourself in this last post.

The length of a series does not define it in either category. Origin is the defining character. It is defined in the meaning of the term Anime.

Actually I dont contradict myself at all, as I never disregard the fact that the origin determines whats an anime and what isnt, I just say that its not my initial view.

If you can find anywhere that says I disregard origin then ill admit im wrong.

Also I dont see how my first post contradicts itself.

I'm old enough to remember the advent of anime in the UK as the rebirth of the "video nasty" scare that was caused by the tendency of the first companies to import the stuff to focus more on the "lager and curry" end of the market. That resulted in the image that most people had of anime (or daftly "manga" as most people seemed to call it back then due to the prominence of the "Manga Video" company) was of crazy violence, sexism and masochism intended for the emotionally slowed!

There was some real crap marketed in those days, but the saving grace was that a small core of decent (and in some cases groundbreaking) titles made it through to prove that there was quality out there as well such as Akira, Domnion Tank Police and Appleseed.

The advent of the popularity of series such as Deathnote, Naruto and One Piece as a result always seem somewhat odd to me as I was blooded in the age of so much harder stuff being en vogue.

I'd hope that the younger generation have taken the time to see titles such as Akira, the original Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor as they really do have to be seen to be believed.

Personally I also really enjoy comming across more low-key series such as Planetes and Otogi Zoshi.

Studio Ghibli is so good that it really has to be part of the stuff that's seen by anyone regardless of their being a fan of anime or not.

And don't, please don't make the mistake of missing out on the work of Satoshi Kon; Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika are some of the best animated films ever made...the death of Satoshi Kon makes them all the more precious.

Too bad that i'm still waiting on the next episode to come out. You can watch them on Youtube if you want. ( I watched the series there)

YES!!! I've watched the entire series 4 times now.

What do you mean "waiting on the next episode to come out"? Are they still doing the Roberta side series? I haven't seen that one yet.

But the all time best line from that show was when Rock and Revi go to Japan so Hotel Moscow can establish a foothold in Tokyo. The sleezeball guy (with blonde hair and white suit) was chasing Yukio and Rock runs in behind him smashes a vase over his head and yells "feth YOU!!" I laughed so hard I nearly cried.

R.O.D is really good especially the film its got real charm and imagination.
Vampire Hunter D is cool the original's a bit dated now but the new one Bloodlust i think its called is cool and brilliantlly animated.
Cowboy bebop is superb the film especially.
Spriggan is a great adventure.
Black Lagoon as several have said already is really cool, loads of action and most have a few good laughs in as well.
Hellsing.
Patlabor 1 and 2, in my view two of the best films out there,
Ghost in the shell obviously, though i personally i'd get the original film over the 2.0 redux version i didn't think all the extra CGI worked too well.

Just my personal taste but i'd avoid Noir, Madlax and Gantz they didn't doo much for me.

Oh I see. Well if you have $50 I would HIGHLY suggest buying the collection set.

Oh man. I've seen quite a bit over the years.

Favorites:
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
FLCL
Diebuster (Gunbuster 2. I enjoy Gainax, I guess.)
Evangelion, on the rare occasion I feel angsty anymore. The new Rebuild of EVA movies are AWESOME though.
Black Lagoon
Hellsing
Outlaw Star
Z Gundam (only saw the movies but they were pretty awesome)
Macross 0

Other Likes:
Turn A Gundam
00 Gundam
Macross/Robotech (Plus was also good. Currently working through 7 and liking everything except the main character, who is a walking sphincterspigot)
Ranma 1/2
Full Metal Panic
Ghost in the Shell (the manga was a lot better)
Martian Successor Nadesico

Nostalgia Lane:
Slayers
Tenchi Muyo
DBZ
Naruto/Bleach to a lesser extent, but I eventually quit watching them.

Very memorable, but rather conflicted about:
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
School Days (Seriously fethed up)
Strike Witches

And not that anyone asked, but my favorite manga as well:
Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm)
Nausicaa
Ghost in the Shell

I like the strong female leads I guess.

I know I'm forgetting tons, and didn't list the many rather forgettable series I never finished. Probably pop back up with more later on.

I've watched too many to list. At the moment I'm only really following Gintama.

The last season had two which were really good: Level E and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

To describe Madoka, imagine your typical Magical Girl show written by a big H. P. Lovecraft fan, with some inspiration from Goethe's Faust.

Going earlier, I have a huge list. Here's something not much watched in the west but really popular in the east: Nintama Rantarou

That and I forgot to mention in the original post that I have watched the Sonic X anime, and if going by origin it is in fact an anime.

I wanna go back to New Jersey

I've seen most of everything hosted on Toonami following the era TOM 1 was its host. Everything excluding the stuff hosted during Giant Robot Week, and everything else that looked like it was trying to advocate sales for a children's card game or toy-line (ex: DICE). After September 2008 rolled around I've never had the motivation to use the internet to watch anime, not until I finally forced myself to watch that Hetalia thing, and hoo-boy was that ever a train wreck. But I still have a television to keep with my tradition of watching shows on television to view anime On Demend whenever I'm not feeling like watching some of History or Discovery (mostly when they have those below par reality shows), or watching Adult Swim On Demand.

I'd mention my favorites but I'm afraid of doing so as my lunch table keep pointing at me for being tasteless. Although that maybe more brought up because I'm the only one there who hasn't watched Hellsing.

That's when you do what I did and say "I like these particular ones. It's all nostalgia though, totally. Toootally."

Tom 1 was awesome though. Tom 2 was just trying way too hard.

Depends i guess, many people dont like how often the main char gets abused by sera ( girl in red ) it makes them angry enough to stop watching.
but if you find sera and main char to be a funny couple , then you'll enjoy it alot ( i do )
