Welcome to dakka and Space Marines are the best army for beginners.

People who complain are idiots. They're the same people that spout when they lose that they're army is underpowered and whatever beat them is overpowered/cheap/flavour of the month, whatever excuse really. Just bad losers, don't take it to heart. Play what you want and like.

Just wait untill they play a REAL OP MEQ army, like Razorspam, Long Fangs or Purifier/Psyfleman spam.

The only people who say that you should be playing space marines are either xenos scum or blasphemous heretics, and their words are nothing but lies meant to lead you from the Emperor's light. Stay strong my friend and PROVE to them through your limitless victories that you are not only worthy of commanding the Emperor's finest, but that THEY are the ones who should be ashamed of the army that they own. i think everyone has agreed that marines are awesome so if they say that they suck then show them this conversation and put their army in front of a apocalypse sm army with 5 land raiders full of yerminators!

Fantastic or Sucks is a matter of opinion for any army for what you want to get out of it.

For a powerful army that makes it a little easier to beat opponents you do not go to far wrong by the latest codex release.

Therefore Necrons would be fantastic... wait a min did Matt write that one? Same as marines? Never mind, forget I posted.

I started with Marines, back in the day. Scythes of the Emperor, in fact. GW saw fit to have them eaten, but by then i had moved on to Orks, Eldar and more esoteric models (Spyrer Gangs FTW!).

My only dislike of the Boys in Ludicrously Large Shoulder Pads is the amount of favouritism GW gives them, combined with a few pretty broken powerbuilds that people have figured out (but the designers probably never intended) that show up in every list at tournaments.

marines are a cool army but pesonally, i think ultramarines are just show-offs. Whenever someone who doesn't know 40k is asked, 'what is a space marine?' they'll go 'a blue dude with a gun'!

Space Marines are a great starting army. Nobody should ever look down at someone else for using ANY army.

When I started, I got hated on because I took on the same faction as my friend (Tau) so I kinda know where your coming from. Good luck with your Black templars. They are expecting an update ether really soon or in about a year (which is close in update terms), so go for it!

You are going to love Black Templars. Don't worry about the haters. You love your Space Marines? Then that is what you should stick with. Play what you like. You like Space Marines? Play Space Marines. People who tell you what you should play and that you are wrong for playing an army are usually the kind of people that paints this whole hobby in a bad light.

Nah, that's just marketing. Ignore everything that has a theme of "Ultramarines are the best hurr" and carry on.

Frankly, I love Marines of all stripes.
