Subject: If Warhammer 40k MUST take out one race, which race should that be?
Grey Knights! Seriously these guys should never be out fighting anything but daemons and that should be the only thing they are good at.
otherwise, their backstory is awful and doesnt fit anywhere
Necrons, their new fluff is silly. they want to regain their lost empire, when their empire never extended very far and they want to regain their mortal coil yet they can never regain their mortal coil...

For those of you that voted Dark Eldar, I suggest that you have not seen this:
Fang, son of Great Fang, the traitor we seek, The laws of the brethren say this: That only the king sees the crown of the gods, And he, the usurper, must die.

I'm afraid I'd axe Tau as well. I'm not, I admit, a fan of them at all - in terms of aesthetics, background or their place in 40k at all. I can see why they were put in but I don't think GW have done enough to cement the Tau's position in the 40k universe.

Why is there no option: "None?"
I like all races in 40k. Sure I have favorites and ones I like less, yet I don't want any of them removed from the fluff.

What a silly thread. Imperial guard isn't a race, first of all.
Second, the factions of 40k are so intertwined, that's it's almost impossible that any of them could live without at least one other faction, besides possibly the Imperium, although without any enemies, the imperium wouldn't be the imperium.
The hostile Xenos (orks, necrons and tyranids) would have nothing to do, and wouldn't leave their respective zones, because there wouldn't be anything to do or consume. Without space hulks, orks would never go anywhere.
Dark Eldar would eventually just collapse without human sustenance, and they'd never have any reason to leave the webway because there would be nothing to steal.
Eldar would be fine by themselves, really. They make their own lives, and wouldn't need to donate resources to war.
Tau would control the galaxy, and then.... *Yawwwwwwwnnnn*
Chaos can't exist without the imperium, so forget that.
Oh my god. I just wrote up a big post about "IF YOU ONLY LEFT ONE RACE, WHAT WOULD IT BE"
Uh, I don't think space marines are really necessary, although Tau are pretty useless too, so I'd rather see them go.
If only ZUN!bar were here...

Humans. General humans.
The universe hates them anyway.
The necrons want to kill them.
The chaos gods just want to eat their souls like bon-bons.
The Eldar want to kill them because they are an accident (The Eldar were created that way, humanity 'evolved' in a random way).
The tyranids want to eat them.

Necrons. I would not have said this a year ago, but, after the new codex and horrible new background fluff. They were a nice idea a year ago and longer, but, now, just to much.
Necrons are awesome now, Tau would have to get the boot.

The Tau can rot for all I care...they don't really fit into 40k.
I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

People are just going to vote for the army they don't like anyway.
Be it because they don't like 'the new thing' or don't like playing against it, or whatever reason they don't like it, other than a justifiable reason.
What this doesn't really take into account is the thousands of people who will play each army (there's obviously enough players of each for them to keep the line going), which results in a lot of people pissed off, and a reduced number of players.

Agreed...40k can't be 40k without two factions: Space Marines and Orks. I mean, who can't resist the lure of superhuman giants in power armor or a genetically-engineered warrior race that's also the deadliest comic relief in existence? It's just unbelievable.

I've got no problem with any race. If one had to go however, it would be the Tau, simply because it would be the easiest disappearance to explain in the fluff (a small cluster of worlds gets destroyed more easily than a galaxy-spanning empire or a collection of Craftworlds). However, I would be deeply saddened at the loss of what would probably have been an excellent shooting army once updated.

Dark Eldar were made because loads of people made Dark version of their eldar - they were made from popular opinion
If you're looking for an easy out the Eldar are dying and know it - the Dark Eldar are thriving as opposed to their 'light' counterpart.
The Tau are smaller empire yes, btu they're expanding and growing and while any given faction could wipe them out it would take a significant amount of resuources, crippling another front - basically, they aren't enough of a threat to offset the overall losses they would take destroying them.
Fluffwise every other race is too numerous, too well entrenched, etc, and squatting them is slowed. BUT the Eldar are already on their way out! Squatting them would still be slowed though.
DE for me, dont like their aesthetic as much as other armies, thought the Codex was poor from a fluff PoV, dont like their motives and methods espeically and they dont excite me whatsoever.
I'll echo though that why arent Daemons/SoB/GKs etc on the original list. Seems a bit hand picked or limited to me.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

Not really take out a race, but take out some codexes. I think they should combine MEQ into one dex, just give special factions like the SW and BA some special rules and units. Also do the same to Chaos Marines and Daemons, just make one Chaos dex.
