Descending into a Tau hate thread in 3... 2... 1...

I don't have any real preference; probably Tau or Necrons if any

Im a Tau player and I voted Tau... newest/most recent faction but they have the oldest codex and are much loathed by a large chunk of the player base.

The C'tan. Failing that, Tyranids. I don't so much mind them as a whole (although I weary of them being the typical "going to eat everything" threat. They bore me somewhat), but some of their background I find more annoying than that of any Astartes. Individual units in particular.

Tie between the Dark Eldar and Necrons. They're both just a little too... something for me. Dark Eldar are just too absurd, being evil space fetishists with Green Goblin hoverboards and S&M outfits and a back story that makes about as much sense as a penguin in the desert.

The Necrons were always a bit too mindlessly evil for me. They had no ambition but to kill everything. Nobody could argue they weren't grimdark enough. But they never quite gelled in the universe for me for whatever reason. Their origin as this creepy "WTF was that!", Lovecraftian enemy was fine. When they had rules for like two models (warriors and scarabs), and were supposed to be for one off games and scenarios. When they expanded the Necrons to have all of these silly, overt combat units, it took away their cool. The reboot of the Necrons as Tomb Kings innnnn Spaaaaaace is just plain unpalatable.

The Grey Knights just should have never been an army. They were supposed to be elite daemon fighters who were about as common as a tall, hot, intelligent blonde who can hold a conversation. The commonality of the Grey Knights army, plus the absurd, out of place units in it (Dreadknight, looking at your stupid ass) takes away their cool factor. Plus, the old models were just light years better. Everything in the modern GK army looks too clean, too perfect, too well made. Essentially, it looks nothing like anything else in the Imperium, lol.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

HAHA a penguin in the desert, that's the best metaphor I've heard in a good long time. You are right though, the dark eldar make so little sense that ya gotta wonder why they were there to begin with.

A part of me wants to say sisters of battle, only so that they stop dragging me along with promises of new stuff that'll never come.

But considering the choices avaliable, I'd prefer if they removed vanilla marines.
I understand that they're the baseline marines are gauged off of, heck, it's the army I currently play since I can't play sisters yet. But the sheer fact that they're considered the "normal" marines rather ruins the idea of fielding an awesome army choice.
Besides, for almost every kind of play style in the SM game, there's a marine chapter that does it better than vanilla. be it tanks, terminators, dreads, drop pods, shooty, close combat, bikes, jump packs, you name it.

But of course, they'd never get rid of their poster boys. They'd be likelier to can the orks, claiming they weren't grimdark enough before they take down the marines.

SPACE MARINES MUST DIE.

Ahem.

They are so corny it hurts. I'm sorry. The fluff, the codex creep, the Power Armor, feth it all, I hope it dies.

I don't think 40k needs to remove any army... they just need to make them all more balanced and even. Update codexes etc...

Why it takes 11 years to make a codex etc is beyond me!

Why cant GW produce a Codex in 3-4 months? I dont know... Dakkadakka can make a workable fandex that people love in about 3 days!

Im all for introducing MORE Races into the 40k world... as long as they get frequent updates etc and not being left to rot.

I like all the factions. However, since I had to choose, I chose Marines. I'd play an army that's a mix of Nurgly Imperial Guard and Nurgly Daemons if I had to get rid of my Death Guard.

They wouldn't need to update codexes on a regular basis if when they did update codexes they didn't break the current game balance. All they would have to do is release codexes that were roughly in line with the old ones, problem solved.

Don't let your ignorance get the better of your reasoning,

Grey Knights must be purged! They are the greater evil.

Why is there no option for GK in the poll? CURSES!

In all honestly, sisters probably need the bucket.

One RACE?

HUMANS.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Second to oldest Codex actually (sorry, pet peeve).

And as a true Black Templar, I'd purge the Tau once and for all, simply because it'd cause the lease conflict with the rest of the fluff.

Definitely, although there would be huge changes required in addition to that.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

Why a full race? Also, doesn't that preclude the Tau, as they're a unified band of multiple races?

If you meant "remove an army" then get rid of Dark Angels. I've never actually seen someone actually use them firsthand, and I thought they started as kind of a joke to begin with.

This is one of the sillier incarnations of this style of thread I've seen.

Squatting things isn't exactly a recipe for happy fun times.

Personally, I'd like to see some codexes expanded, and some codexes condensed down, and it not simply being 1/2 the dexs are imperial... but hey, I'm happy with my Dark Eldar and Tau.
