I'm in the same boat as Fafnir. I have a white-primed model and an excuse to spend tons of time painting it.

This sounds awesome I'd love to enter a model, i'm already having ideas for an awesome blood angels librarian! I need to paint my blood angels anyways, this only gives me further cause.

Not sure if you're being intentionally facetious, but this contest will be restricted to Infinity miniatures only.

I think he is just new

Baseballclu - this sub forum is for skirmish scale games, such as Infinity and Malifaux and this proposed painting contest is being used to help boost the visibility of Infinity (a great skirmish game with fantastic models if you are ever interested in playing it) and so will only be open to Infinity models. I believe that there is talk of getting some prize support from the company that make the game too, so certainly worth the investment of even purchasing a single model if you want to enter

I'd be up for participating. The model in question may be whatever gets impulse-purchased from my FLGS, mind.

I think i've decided on my entry. <evil laugh>

It depends on how long we get though, it's going to take ages to do. I have a couple of fall back positions though.

If you guys have questions don't worry too much. there will be plenty of time to ask when the official thread goes up.
(I didn't tell you but it's already being proof read! )
If you can't hold your water any longer then check out 'Welcome to the Thunderdome,' the last Dakka Painting Competition. I can't promise the answers are identical but it'll give you an idea if you are desperate to know.

Isn't that little bit OTT? Some people may not know how to 'date' a photo, and we are trying to get as many entries as possible here to grow the community not provide a barrier to entry?

The Infinity community is still small - someone enters a model they have already posted elsewhere previously, someone will have seen it.

The rules are generally the standards Dakka requires, to stop people cheating in order to get the prize. I think that may be the case with what lewis said.

It shouldn't stunt how many people join our community and get involved in Infinity because it's a competition open to all of Dakka. People who have never heard of the game before may be interested in participating.

If you are still worried you might want to pm lewis, i'm not sure if he is reading this thread.

Well, as long as someone provides an instruction on how to 'date' a photo! There may be others who are similarly useless on computers to me and have no idea!

Haha, yeh i wouldn't no how. Unless he just means to provide a date alongside the photo? I'll check the Thunderdome comp...

Hmm, it doesn't say. We will have to wait and see.

If you click on an image in the Gallery, you'll notice there's a little bar of information in the bottom righthand corner.

Intelligent camera devices, like my phone, Stamp an image with a TON of information. Anything from the time it was taken, the date, even GPS Coordinates (!!!).

If you check anything in my gallery, everything has that little box of info, since I take all my shots with my phone. I assume that would be good enough of a timestamp.

Or we could do it like taking a hostage and take a photo of it with a current day newspaper!

It's really not very hard to put your wip picture down on top of a newspaper with a date on it. It also isn't very hard to put it in front of your computer screen with a picture of the date on the screen. These are the rules that all the painting comps follow. I see no reason not to keep following those guidelines.

Truthfully though the wip isn't such a huge deal. I am not trying to hinder anyone from joining in.

I just think Pacific wanted someone to explain 'How to do it' is all.

No worries people.

OK mate awesome I hadn't noticed that before! Just looked at other pics I had previously uploaded and they do indeed have a time/date on them

It's really not very hard to put your wip picture down on top of a newspaper with a date on it.

Randomly, I found some newspapers the other day from the early 80s (that had been used as padding in a box). Would love to do some pictures like that of a new Infinity mini on top of the newspaper, and freak people out with an impossible temporal mechanics paradox

And no worries mate I know you aren't trying to hinder anyone from joining, in fact the help is really appreciated!

Take a black and white photo of a PanO mini standing on top of a paper that reads, "NIXON WINS".

Hilarity ensues.

So we are waiting for another thread to come up before we get started painting? My model is primed white and ready.

We are indeed waiting for a new thread. There are a few hoops to jump through first; most importantly is getting feedback from CB, along with some details of the prizes they have offered to give to the winner(s).

Watch the front page of Dakka as, I believe, that's where it will appear when it starts.

I need to work out what I'm going to paint now...

It won't be before Tuesday. I'd expect it to be a while after that actually. Choose your models, brushes, paints and stock up on your favourite beverage. It'll be off the ground before you know it!

Yeah I realize I may have come off as a smartass. Sorry about that fellows.

I will happily answer any questions that anyone has. I do recommend leaving them for the actual painting contest page though. That way I don't answer the same inquiry 3 different times on three different threads.

So, my model is going to be inspired by Yoruichi from Bleach. At least the woman behind the model is anyway.

So will models already painted be viable for this? I just finished up my haqqislam starter set. And I'll be away from home for 3weeks, so if this is planned for April I won't be able to do anything until much later this month.

I don't think they will.

You'll need to start fresh, with a dated photo of your primed model...

I'll be buying something new for it anyways.. probably sooner than later, it can sit in its blister till it starts and I'll get the date when needed. The old Dakka in the background shot most likely.

Hold off on drawing conclusions about the contest till it starts. I believe that the ony requirement is that the model just hasn't been posted on any sites or contests before. Not sure if there wil be a primed dated pic requirement, but leaving that in the hands of lewis
