Black Templars you look at them they kill you, you talk to them they kill you, you shoot at them they still charge at you and hack your head off.

Chaos: Death Guard because they are just badass.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.

The Lamenters. Unlucky, unwanted, ill-fated, depressed but still overall good guys? Hilarious, tragic and kinda awesome all at the same time. They've got a human, flawed style that most Space Marine chapters don't.
Gotta hand it to the one chapter you can accurately roleplay when your dice screw you over!

That snazzy yellow paintjob doesn't hurt either.

As a secondary choice, the Flesh Tearers. The opposite of the kind-hearted Lamenters but no less ill-fated. They've got a cool color scheme, and embody the Adeptus Astartes in the way I always saw them: Godlike combat monsters that due to many factors (but I'm sure being taken at the cusp of teenhood and then spending the next 30 years being pumped full of enhancing crap and being told that you're the hottest gak to ever exist doesn't help) are childlike in their monstrous focus on murder to the point where they're scarcely able to be in the same room as normal people.

Only those who don't understand statistics claim that mathhammer has no merit.

The pre-heresy World Eaters have to be up there. As a legion they know what they are and are not bashful about it. They know they are butchers and see no shame in it, more so than even Russ' Dogs, it's a refreshing honesty

Post heresy it's the Salamanders for me. A chapter that embrances what humanity they have left and fight for the little guy until the end.

I gotta say Iron Hands. Bionic implants, being as much machine as Astartes and totally merciless. They are exactly the kind of Space Marines the Imperium needs to save its rear.

I rather like the Black Templars. Especially after reading helsreach. Most are pompous jerks, but Grimaldus shows how one could still fight for the civilians (towards the end) and fight to the last. although they rather fight than save civilians in most cases (spoiler: their disagreement with the salamanders)

my second favorite is the Ultramarines and my third is the Crimson Fists.

The Black Templars. They've continued the Crusades that the Emperor started...for 10,000 years!

If it was good enough for the Emperor, it's good enough for the Men in Black, the Sons of Dorn, the Emperor's Champions, The BLACK TEMPLARS!

Mine has to be the Iron Snakes... knock the book if you wwill(i thought it was great) but my near totally painted force of them drew a metric crapload of good comments at the lgs last weekend.
Not to mention their fluff.. i really dig that there are no companies and no scouts in the Iron Snakes, plus the squad retains its name from the original commander, and his weapon is passed down from leader to leader.

After them, it's gptta be the Raven Guard, or really, the Death Guard for my chaos fancies.

Salamanders!

I love just about everything about this chapter. The humanitarian aspects of them are brought up frequently- so I won't even use that here.

They follow a unique approach training and recruitment that, while keeping their numbers low, creates a hardened core. This is enhanced by their equipment being incredibly well maintained and constructed, since each member of the chapter is an accomplished smith- which leaves their real elite crafters to make true masterpieces.

I love an underdog, and their primarch, Vulkan, I feel is consistently underrated. He drove off a dark eldar raid using forge hammers. He contested his father for days in feats of strength, but bent his knee to him when he demonstrated compassion and a value for life. He's obviously, to me at least, on the high end of the primarch martial power scale, but is tempered by his better nature.

I also love a mystery, even if this one frustrates me. The circumstances of the primarch Vulkan during the heresy are annoyingly vague. He vanished from the DSM mysteriously, but there was no indication of death. And Primarch deaths tend to be quite obvious. He objected to the legions being split in to chapters (not that it mattered to the Salamanders directly at that point), he created powerful artifacts and a prophecy, and then left his sons to find them and unravel it.

(My personal theory is that at the DSM, he disappeared through the webway by some means. I support this with his general emnity towards the Dark Eldar of his home world, and experience giving some insight in to their methods, combined with a mission big E sent the Salamanders on, where he lead them to a webway gate intentionally, combined with Vulkan's ability to create artifacts. I theorize that he had created, or modified, some device that could access the webway in some primitive way, and he either used it, and it backfired, or it was otherwise activated, and he had a difficult time getting out. This explains his DSM vanishing act, and return.)

The chapter itself is a stalwart, heavy fighting force. Plus they are green. And use fire. Like my Orks. So they're a good change of pace from my Orks theme wise, but retain the green. And the fire.

Blood Angels, the noble scions of Sanquinius, the most noble of all the Primarchs, are my favorite legion and chapter. I love their fluff, and their colors and dex. If I had a second it would be the lamenters cause I love the fluff and the fact that like Sanquinius they are the most human of all the Adeptus Astartes.

We are winged salvation, but we are a terrible, final salvation, and our wings embrace the horizon with fire. We are the Blood Angels. To confront us is to die, and death is my remit, my reality, my unbounded domain. I have known death, and defeated it, claimed it as my own. To my cost, to my strength, death is my one gift to bestow, and I am nothing if not generous.

Iron Hands are pretty awesome. Unlike many other chapters, these guys are psychologically messed up due to their horrid and dark past! The Iron Hands are scarred like the Blood angels, which make them much more sinister than their noble brethren. I love them for it.

No one should be complaining about this codex. It gave regular Eldar a much needed buff by allowing us to drop Fire Dragons and D-Scythe Wraithguard wherever we want, without scatter.
