I always hated the 'never lost' thing.
Even by blind luck you'll lose at least once.
I mean, I think my YuGiOh record was pretty good, but even then it was still a 2/1/1 ratio.
With the warhammer... for the first year of my return to the game in 2010 I had a record that was roughly 4 / 96, and I'm not entirely sure I actually won that many....
Since I learnt the ins and outs of the new codex and set up my coven though, my Coven list HAS won roughly 9/10 games, and my tournament list has won every game I've played with it so far ( admittebly this is only around 12 games )
My other DE lists, my Tau, etc, so far have ran about 50 / 50

Well, during 5th with my eldar i was near undefeated. In fact, in my local store my Eldar were known to be horrible to fight, especially against CC armies. And I have wraithguard and a phoinix lord
I went to a local tourney and tabled everyone, except a blood angel player who DESTROYED me. And I wasn't good at low point games.
Some people are that good, and know their armies very well, as well as their opponents.

The US and UK do it differently.
Major League Soccer in the US is W-L-T.
NHL used to be W-L-T, before they went to W-L- OTL or whatever the hell they're doing now.
The UK's Premier League uses W-D-L.

I post my record honestly and to tell you the truth having 8 wins is not down to my personal ability. It has a lot more to do with playing a list that people are having a hard time dealing with in 6th. That and a lot of good luck with the dice of late.
Hell, I just played my first game of Battle Fleet Gothic and won by sheer dumb luck.

Granted that does noe necessarily mean that my list was bad or anything (they were all playing necrons, though), it just means that they all got luck/good tactics/etc.

there are those that count wins, and those that don't....who has the bigger E-peen the braggards or the people that don't say a word, but play regardless of their wins and losses?
I for one am a middle road player, orks being my army of choice, but I stopped counting and started just looking for other ways to play my army. If I met a player with 1000 wins, I'd welcome the game, I love a challenge.

Some people are just really good, after playing for 10+ years. Someone with a couple years of Wargaming is most likely not going to beat someone that still has the Eldar Libby model from RT and uses it as his commander. The games might get closer over time, but a close win is still a win.
Not every single win means the other guy got tabled.
And I'm not defending my own record. I've won one game since 6th started( my only game so far) and I've won two games in the past year.
Time spent playing doesn't make you better then someone newer. I've seen people playing their third or fourth game club people who've played for 10+ years. it's all about understanding the game and playing correctly.
DashofPepper pretty much won 75% of the tournaments he attended within months of starting playing.
Tom Kopach (sp?) the 16 year old kid has something like a 95% win rate in top level tournaments.
People really ARE that good. Hell, in the 15 years I've played 40k I've played against 2 people that are straight up better then me, another 3-5 that are about equal and hundreds that were worse.
I wont deny that some people do win more then others, you can account for redundancies and know how to setup and play a table, but in a game of dice... luck cannot be controlled
@Experiment 626
This is the reason why I always wanted to play Orks. They win, they win, they loose they win, they draw, they win.
Ward writes the new Ork codex, and adds a special rule "Ork Logic" if the Orks win, they win, if the Orks lose, they win, if the Orks draw, they win.

I will say that if you play with the same group(s) on a regular basis, an undefeated streak can become self fulfilling. Currently at the FLGS I play at the most, people expect me to win. If a couple things go my way or if I make and aggressive DS or such, players start getting sloppy, start giving up, start making desperate moves as if the game is going downhill and they need to start gambling (when often the games still winnable).
Sometimes playing someone on a streak makes players rise to the occasion, most times it brings out the worst.

Can't do. You're not a real person, you're just an internet meme. Come back when you got your man pants on.
As for people who post their record, for some the game is 100% about winning, they don't care about modeling and painting or lore. They just want to win.
Yet, putting your record as something so impossible is just showing how bad they really are. If you have to lie about your record, you have none, you're just trying to quantify your games as wins because you felt cheated in the games you lost, or you feel the internet forum goers will be impressed by your score, something will never happen.

People that have crazy W/L/D ratios are either not playing people at their own skill level, are lying, or are trolling the liars(which i actually find pretty amusing. So i feel that if your W/L/D ratio is at 100-0 or something, and it is legitimate(doubtful) then you are the next ender from "enders game" or you need to play people at your own level.
I played my brother about 50 times last summer, and never included any of my 50+ wins in my W/L/D stat because i dont feel it should count, yes the games were fun, but werent really competitive

Good lord...
This is the internet and people can pretend to be anything they want free from fear of discovery. It is for this reason that ALL intelligent perusal of the web carries with it a healthy relationship with skepticism.
Though, I must say that were I to play nothing but 5 year olds with loaded dice I'd do pretty well ninety-nine out of a hundred times without so much as wiff of obfuscation of facts.
As it is, I get a game a month if I'm lucky and my win/loss ration remains untarnished (read into that what you will).
Oh, and by the way... I'm a reclusive millionaire game and graphics designer with a penchant for slumming on 40k forums (fora?), a person of note often cited by American (international?) gaming culture as a gamer and miniatures collector as if this was something really neat and unexpected, a racer of very expensive motorcycles who dates super-model quality women on a regular basis or a bored, humorless housewife loaded up on 'happy' pills and alcohol whiling away the time till her next nervous breakdown...
I will leave it to you to imagine what is true and what isn't.

I know a guy who has like 500+ wins with his army. However I haven't seen him since early 4th ed.
I was undefeated with my Tyranids in 3rd and 4th... as far as I can recall. I always ended the game having tabled my opponent but I'd only have a Carnifex with a single wound and an untouched Hive Tyrant.
My space marine had far more wins than losses... but I wouldn't say in a row. But definatly something like 4 wins for every loss.

Fixture of Dakka
|
1) People that spend their days hanging out on a WH40k forum will tend to be people somewhat obsessed with WH40k. As such, they'll tend to be the people towards the top of the bell curve in W-L record. So, seeing the majority of people claiming winning records is believable.
2) I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't count games that they lose, because their opponent "cheated" or used a "flavor of the month" army, or something like that. Sure, if they win, it counts, but if the lose, it doesn't... and, sometimes, if they lose, it counts as a win.
3) People lie. On the internet, when you have anonymity, they lie even more.
4) This doesn't need it's own thread. If someone says "Hey, I just won 100 matches in a row", just say "Grats" and move on. You know they're lying, and everyone else knows they're lying. They're the ones that look like an idiot, no need to rage about it.

I suck worse than you all. I played 15 league games and only managed two draws, of which I technically lost by victory points. But on the opposite end, I've seen even the best players eventually lose. Why? Because they end up playing another great player. In a game of dice, you will eventually lose because of bad rolls. And some schmo like me will end up winning because of good rolls against your bad luck.

In multiple editions my chaos marine forces are undefeated in games. They have never let me down whether I am playing khorne, nurgle or slaanesh forces. Mind you I don't *always* play my Chaos marines. I've lost with Eldar, Space Marines, IG and daemonhunters plenty during those times. My chaos marines just never let me down when I bring them back to the table. I've had people I don't know call me a liar for saying that, but it is a fact whether they want to insult me or not. I've used it multiple times in threads here to point out to people that despite the fact that they think the chaos codex is garbage that they army can still win just as consisently. Now that I have pared down my armies to only have 3 chaos marine forces, 1 chaos daemons army and a chaos renegades army I expect that streak will come to a close before too long since I am playing them more often now.
Either way what do you care? Who cares if someone claims to be undefeated or not. Play them and put them in your place if you have to by beating them, otherwise it doesn't matter.

I truly am undefeated in fantasy. Of course I've only ever played one game of it. 750 point demo game and I was Lizardmen vs Chaos daemons and the only reason I won was because of abysmal dice rolling on the part of the Daemon player.
But a 1-0-0 record is still undefeated. :p

I even wrote one of my friends a list to beat me... turns out he is just terrible at tactics and thinks he is great...

I used to play with a guy who boasted regularly that he was undefeated...
Came to find out later that when he's about to lose a game, he just starts putting his minis away and shakes his opponent's hand.
In his opponent's mind, he's conceding. In his mind the game was never finished and thus he didn't lose.
Kinda petty if you ask me. But I guarantee that these people who boast a perfect undefeated record are knowingly excluding their losses to look cool or add weight to their opinions.
While true, some people are really good, it's more often true that to many players, lying to look cool is more important than integrity.
Frankly I admire the people with a healthy loss record. It tells me they are good sports, don't take the game too seriously, and wear their losses like the badge of experience that they are.

For me, it's just a simple, encouraging way to keep track of my record, and simultaneously encourage myself to get better, write better lists, and play well. When I lost the game shown, it really bothered me, because I HAD to put it up by my standards, and I am an incredibly competitive player. To me, showing I've lost is something I want to avoid not by lying, but by winning as often as I can. It's not always about bragging, you see. Sometimes, it's an image to be upholded.
