Space Wolf, Bloodclaw under Harald Deathwolf, ride warbikes alongside the Wolf Lord, drink a lota booze; and should I live for a few more centuries, I just might make a wolf guard, meet Logan Grimnar, and then ride a big f-ing wolf while drinking lots of booze.
I always liked a little excerpt in Dark Heresy. It described that on certain planets, individuals believe that serving him meant an afterlife with him, in his protection. However, an acolyte's job is dangerous and, as they learn of the warp, of the perils of the realm, they find their beliefs broken to the reality that all that remains after death is to fade into nothing or to become a snack for some warp entity.
If we can be specific.... Daemon Prince! I'd love to have my own planet to just play with twisting and changing contrasting everything. If we can't really pick.... If we can't pick, orks. I might die fast but gosh darn will it be fun!
Dark Eldar, as they are the only 'free' race there is. Yeah they work under Vect, but they are free to do whatever they wont how ever they want. Every other race works under a banner, are told what to do either by commanders, gods, morals or psyche...Also sex, drugs and rock'n'roll

If you know what I mean.
Down side of getting your soul eaten. That's why being a Slaanesh marine is so much better all the fun of being a DE without the whole soul being eaten.
'Oo doesn't want to 'av der day consist of munchin' Squig Pies washed down wiv' Fungus Beer, kickin' some weedy Grotz around, headbuttin' a few gitz an' nickin' der teef, takin' a buggy fur a race round da camp while shoutin' WAAAAAAGHHH! an' shootin' off ya best gunz, laughin' at da Madboyz gettin' zapped by a Warphead, drinkin' more Fungus Beer an' den havin' a Brewhouse Bash, watchin' da pit fights before havin' wun yerself ta prove 'ow well 'ard yoo are an' den doin' it all ovva again da next day?
An Eldar (not sure who) once said that Orks evolved into a perfect society without angst or fear.
Sounds like being an Ork is basicaly having no negative feelings and to them the whole world is just a giant party.
"The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude."

I'd probably be a Marine, either DA or SW maybe Salamanders. i know its kinda generic but i could live for a couple hundred years kill stuff be big have a big old family. life would be simple and i could do anything i wanted really. wouldnt get sick it wouldnt hurt when i stubbed my toe.
anyway heres the reasons for my choice.
DA- secretive and they dont really listen to anyone they just do what they want + they still have a primarch and are a couple of thousand strong. and i kinda like the getup they have going on. plus they hunt the fallen and i am a fan of wheres wally (waldo for the yanks)
SW- who wouldnt want to be half 1/3 human 1/3 dog and 1/3 viking? its the best of everything and they seem to have a laugh (until one of them goes gakking crazy and wants to kill everything)
Salamaders- I am a pyromaniac so why wouldnt i want to set fire to things? preferably a librarian then i could just make fire happen. plus looking for vulkans lost shazz cant be too dull can it?

While looking quite dashing!
Dying as a human in W40K simply leads to you being ripped and your consiouness destroyed and plunged into oblivion, or daemons taking an interest in you and deciding that ripping your soul into ribbons will be entertaining for the next eternity.
Meanwhile, there's no downside to being a daemon prince and willingly go along with joining Chaos and having your soul exalted by the Chaos Gods to spend eternity as a minor god.
That's your interpretation, to me you go with whoever you worshipped, so to the Emperor with my soul
And either way, I want to stay human, its silly but that's that.
No, that's not my "interpretation", there is nothing suggesting the Emperor protects those who worship him, or if he simply devours them as well like any other warp god. There's "interpretation of fluff" and then there's "making gak up".
It's still a interpretation. Show me where is says that every soul gets torched by daemons when they die.
In The First Heretic as well as in Betrayer. In 40k there is no afterlife but torment and eventual hellish oblivion. That's part of the true grimness of the setting, because there's no real escape from it.
The agents of Chaos often claim that the souls of humans are bound to end up in the warp and suffer eternal torment or some such. They do this to win over the mortals to their team by offering said mortals a “supposed” free pass on a grim end. Demons lie and mislead all the time, so take it all with salt.

Eldar, difficult choice in Craftworlds but I'm gonna go with Iyanden as I see them as the closest thing to "good guys" in a darker universe. As far as occupation I have alot of admiration for Autarchs so I'll go with ith that giving experiences as most warrior paths. As much as I love Biel-Tan I like Iyandens sense of tolerance and their logic in their codex supplement.

Daemons. Lie when you would trust them and tell the truth when you won't.
To all you demon lord wanna be's the OP did ask for standard races, and not a choice of rank.
With that premise I would say Tau or Dark Elder.
Tau: optimistic little guys with the possibility of one day getting into a fundamental aka crisis suit. not to mention i may or may not be mine controlled so dont have to worry about fear.
Dark Eldar: Why? Sex, drugs, rock'n'roll, and pillaging...which offers the previous 3 items in new and exciting ways!
Counting obscure races however.... C'Tan because they are bad ass.
I think being an Ork would be the happiest existence, assuming I have to be a basic grunt of whatever species/race I choose. I mean, they just have fun.
But if I could choose my position, then it'd be a whole new story. Inquisition all the way - but only if I'm in charge - I don't fancy being a penitent engine or arco-flagellant...
Thats easy. I'd be a human
More specifically....and Rogue Trader.
Obscene wealth?
Freedom to do as I please, go where I please, when I please?
Residual ties to the imperium to get what I want.
Get to act like a privateer/pirate
Live for hundreds of years if you do it right.
(Check to all of the above)
I see no downside.
Bedouin Dynasty: 10000 pts
The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.
Easy, Dark eldar. You get a good life for a couple of millenia. Oh and there's the small thing of getting a lucky break some day and becoming an archon who will always be resurrected.
Flames of war- USSR and UAR
x wing- customs= imperial rampant destroyer and tie geist and tie phantom.
proper models= x wing 5 the fighters 2 interceptors 2 bombers rebel transport y wing 3 b wings and tantive IV
Ork
Because i would die happy if it involved driving 100+ mph on a make shift looted bike with big shooty guns strapped to it, hell i would even consider swinging a rusty pipe around to play golf with some loyalist heads
Human. If I can choose the who, what and where, then it'd be my Slaaneshi Apostate from the FFG Black Crusade RPG - a warlord with a million soldiers & space vessels to carry them but lacking any fixed agenda, who strives solely for their own personal perfection and to be surrounded by the finest material examples of perfection whilst enjoying all the fun that being a hermaphrodite can bring!* Huzzah!
People say Slaanesh like it's gonna be an eternity of sex drugs and rock n roll. I doubt those people have experienced large amounts of any of these. An eternity listening to Airbourne would drive me flying rodent gak insane.
Still probably the best choice in-universe now that I'm trying to think of an alternative.
A Tau Ethereal...you get comfy robes..a long life..clean elegant living conditions, and a host of minions that think your every word is wise, cool, and to be heeded.
I don't even need or want a combat oriented posting..would be happy to manage a small colony or outpost...or a food and beverage corporate.
If it has to be as the most basic unit of the faction, Eldar. You get to live an incredibly long life, and as long as you're not combat oriented and your craftworld isn't attacked, you should be ok.
If it can be as something better (HQ choice so to speak), definitely Necron Lord/Overlord.
