Also that image is old. "Serpent Society" was a ruse; it's Civil War but according to the dude, it's "very different from the comic book Civil War". We should all be thankful for that.
Holy cow, yes, that comic was so full of drama and a lack of coherency, it wasn't funny anymore.
Hey. It featured Iron Man getting beaten to utter hell. Which is the best thing to ever happen in the Marvel universe ever. If you think otherwise, then you're wrong.

It featured Tony Stark as a mustache-twirling villain. That was the problem. Civil War should have been about competing ideologies. Instead it was just black and white/hero vs villain, and they made former heroes into villains to make that work.

I think he started out a bit less overt, but comics often have trouble with nuance so writers ended up ramping it up.
Actually iirc there was an interview with Millar in which the original idea was that Cap was the bad guy. Iron Man was supposed to be using common sense and consideration and for once Steve Rogers was supposed to be on the wrong side of something, even if unintentionally. It didn't end up working out that way of course as everyone, other writers included, assumed Iron Man was in the wrong and Cap was in the right an ran with it.

Nope.
Done very much to "hurt" Fox.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/10/05/confirmed-fantastic-four-to-be-cancelled-in-2015-with-a-triple-sized-issue-645-as-january-kicks-off-fantastic-fourever/
That, as a result of Disney’s highest single shareholder and Marvel CEO Isaac Perlmutter’s anger with Fox Studios over negotiations regarding the film-and-related rights to The Fantastic Four, that Marvel would cancel the Fantastic Four comic rather than provide any promotion, however small it might be, towards the Fox Studios film. Merchandise and licenses were scrapped and even Fantastic Four posters in the offices were pulled down lest Perlmutter see one and have his ire raised. It may not have been logical, but it was a decision born of personal emotion. It was steadied by sense. X-Men wasn’t cancelled, for example as the Xbooks sell so well. But Fantastic Four? It may have been the first book of the Marvel Universe, but its sales have continued to drag, even after multiple relaunches with high profile creators. There would be less of a hit to the bottom line if this comic was dropped.
Our story was pooh-poohed by all and sundry, save for CBR who independently confirmed that it was intended for the Fantastic Four to be cancelled. Then the letter about sketch card artists being forbidden to use Fantastic Four characters was made public, Mondo talked about being forbidden to use Fantastic Four characters and today, we we were already planning to run another story about Diamond Select Toys confirming that they are unable to make any Fantastic Four toys.
Right now we are not able to make characters from the FF, but as soon as that changes we will consider them.
But events moved on too quickly. Now the catalogues of Hachette, Marvel’s bookstore distributor, seems to confirm the cancellation at least. With June’s solicitation for James Robinson and Leonard Kirk‘s Fantastic Four: The End Is Fourever.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/05/30/artists-given-specific-instructions-not-to-use-fantastic-four-characters/
hat Marvel Comics were to cancel their Fantastic Four comics (though still using the characters in other titles) as a deliberate snub to Fox, currently producing the Fantastic Four movie. With the belief, from on high, that any publication of Fantastic Four comic books only helped Fox Studios at the expense of Marvel Studios. And while X-Men were just too popular comics to cancel, the Fantastic Four… wasn’t. So both comics would be dropped.
There was flimsy evidence to back it up. That the Marvel 75th Anniversary project had no Fantastic Four on the cover, despite being Marvel’s first superhero team, and the core of the modern Marvel comic. I was told that Fantastic Four imagery had been taken down at Marvel’s offices. And then certain very chatty people in the past suddenly clammed up when this was mentioned.
9f4d723abc57d1b2f8cf64e1c97f2e85-d3l7660
Well, this morning another shoe on the caterpillar dropped. An artist who I have been asked not to name, told me,
I do a number of sketch card projects for Upper Deck and Rittenhouse using Marvel characters. The most recent projects from both companies, one billed as Marvel 75th Anniversary, gave specific guidelines to NOT use any FF characters or supporting cast such as Dr Doom, Galactus, Surfer, Skrulls etc…
So… what do we think?
Another source close to Marvel tells me that this is all coming from Marvel CEO and largest Disney shareholder Ike Perlmutter, who has been known to take these kind of things very personally indeed.
Also, it’s worth pointing out that Marvel has a very different relationship with Fox than it does with Sony.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/09/25/marvel-says-no-to-any-mondo-posters-that-feature-the-fantastic-four/
/Film reports at the last weekend’s Mondocon, the people behind the popular Mondo line of pop culture posters, talked about the posters that had been rejected for some reason.
Including the Galactus image above.
Marvel straight up rejected it. No reason. They just said no to anything Fantastic Four in general.
A few comic book writers/artists have confirmed this on the quiet as well.
From what I've gathered part of the issue is that the contract that was signed when the rights were sold back when Marvel was bankrupt is generally pretty terrible from Marvel's perspective, both with regards to the % they get from films etc but also because , apparently, whilst the rights are held then Fox actually get a % cut of other FF licenses , so even if Marvel/Disney were to license out say a FF lunchbox Fox would still take a % cut of those sales.

Wait thats different how?
One studio released individual character movies which have slowly introduced each character who would later appear in the big team up movie while also giving us little plot points building towards the next wave of movies (Infinity stones introduced via villains in many of the first wave movies, Thanos and the Nova Corps appearing in GOTG etc.)
The other studio is making a sequel to a Superman movie which will somehow include Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg? etc.
The new Avengers has what 3 new characters? Sup and Batboy are firmly established. They can drop in others just like Avengers.
How many movies have they been trying to pump out yearly?
Again not seeing the difference, nor am I particularly interested in any of them.

Just stop it. It's a bunch of movie titles and dates on a board. There's nothing masterful there to ponder whilst we stroke our chins and nod knowingly.
The reason Marvel had to do an entire array of lead-in movies is because their heroes were B-list in the minds of average moviegoers. Marvel has two A-list characters, and Marvel Studios can't touch either of them.
I'm really not sure why the Marvel fanboys feel the need to constantly take a dump on other comic movies. Nervousness, perhaps? When you look at that lineup in context of WB's earlier announcements, it sure seems like there are a lot of reactionary, "us too" items.

Honestly, I've seen just as much of the opposite as well. If you're standing around in the local comic shop you'll probably see or hear it. Just for giggles, run a little experiment. Go into the comic shop when it's fairly "busy" with people, pick up a Marvel comic, and then start trying to pick up a DC comic. Now you'll have to really pay attention as many comics fans are like gamers and are very passive-aggressive, but you will probably notice comments/looks/changes in breathing patterns in other people there.
Just about the only people in the store who will have no problem with it, is the owner/worker.
I would actually say that DC only has 2 "A-list" characters as well, but realistically, Marvel has had, and is gaining more character fans that are becoming A-List. IM, Cap, Thor, and Hulk are especially well known now, and characters from X-Men are picking up, as is the popularity of Deadpool/Cable. We're currently in a period where, if DC/Marvel were continents on the opposite side of the ocean, DC's tide is "out" while Marvel's tide is in.

I think for Marvel it would take a flop of Avengers or their more core characters (Thor, Ironman, Cap) and maybe more than 1. However a flop for Sony, DC, or Fox will likely result in retracting again from the market.

There are more than enough over-produced, explosion filled bubblegum movies released every year without super heroes to keep the masses placated.
For those of us that grew up reading these comics (both Marvel and DC!) and waited, and waited, and waited for the technology to catch up so that they could reproduce what we saw on the pages, this is a great time.
I'm pretty pumped about the Inhumans movie because Black Bolt is awesome.

I agree. Marvel is doing a lot more to bring new fans in as well as elevating characters to try and get around Spidey and Wolverine being unavailable. They picked some decent characters to do it with as well. Most of them already had some name recognition and they built on that.

I do think Marvel has done a great job elevating its characters. Hell, Iron Man was B- or C-list within Marvel before the first RDJ film. And really, you could have made a case that Aquaman had more brand recognition among non-comic fans than Captain America, Thor or Iron Man before the Marvel films. With Spidey and Wolverine off-limits, Marvel HAD to make it happen in order to launch the MCU, and they pulled it off, although IMO Cap, Thor and Hulk were all middling quality films.
Wonder Woman isn't at the Superman/Batman level, but she's close. Contrast her with Ms./Captain Marvel, whom they're almost certainly going to have to spend time introducing in another film before she gets to solo. I think there's room to question Marvel's strategy there, because that film definitely feels like an "us too" instead of being a film that's compelling on its own merits. A Captain Marvel film without Mar-Vell in the starring role? Really?
Personally, I think a potentially fatal flaw of the MCU is the rigidity created by all the structure they've built. Ahtman isn't going to be the only one disappointed that some or most of the characters he's attached to probably won't be involved when the Infinity Gauntlet storyline finally happens. And at what point does all the intertextuality start preventing each individual film from being as good as it can be? Stories need to stand on their own and not just be a setup or way to introduce something else. Marvel's walked that tightrope pretty well so far, but that doesn't mean they're stumble-proof.
