I'm fairly sure Alph's comment was in regards to the 'hurr hurr, Ms. Marvel got raped' comment.

Anyhow, I actually think that Captain Marvel is the film I'm most excited for (that and Black Panther). Most of the films that were announced were ones that were likely to happen anyway; we already basically knew about Civil War, Infinity War was basically a certainty, rumours about the lead for Dr Strange didn't stop, and Inhumans is being heavily set up by Agents of Shield, but Captain Marvel and Black Panther were, apart from comments by Kevin Feige, out of the left field.

Yes, that exactly it.

It's also not the last time it happens, either. I watched the video to see what was going on, after Alph deleted HSM1's post. After Rogue absorbed her (including her persona), Rogue and Wolverine were kidnapped and lost access to their powers. The people who kidnapped them raped her. She was pretty much catatonic, and Ms. Marvel temporarily took over Rogue's body to get them out of there, since Rogue was mentally unable to. She and Wolverine, after powers were restored, also murdered everyone who violated Rogue (and technically Ms. Marvel) in that way. Claremont also wrote that story. So...Yeah. There you go. It's available in the Essential X-Men graphic novels, either book 3 or 4, I forgot which. I think it's 4. It's been two years since I've read it though. The part that I laughed about was Claremont being pissed and doing justice to her-because he later let it happen again, as a prisoner of war, instead of mind control!! Same character, different body!! People shouldn't be giving Claremont props in this matter. I will give him props for saving the X-Men though, after Stan Lee sorta ran them into the ground.

edit-I just went to look it up, and apparently Claremont publically said "she was only touched badly, not actually raped". But it was heavily hinted at being rape, and then called as only being molested. You'll find both viewpoints online. Just Google Rogue being raped on Genosha, and you can determine for yourself if she actually was and he tried to backpedal on it, or if his answer is legit.

Which, I suppose, is all OK for discussion, but certainly not in the way that HSM1 decided to 'represent' it.

I am sorry. My intent was to joke that, with them making stories based off popular comic arcs, and with that one being the most known for MM that that might be the way they go.
I am excited for MM and black panther, I loved those char. Now we just need a Ghost Rider movie

That isn't a popular comic arc, just a semi-well known one.

I think it was sarcasm. Better we all forget those films happened...

The first one was kind of alright, I've not even bothered with the second. Still better than the Fantastically-Bad 4 though...

The best that I can say about those is that the Silver Surfer looked right.

I was really sad about the Ghost Rider films, because I always really liked the comics (especially when he teams up with the Punisher).

Well I suppose the good news is that Marvel now has Ghost Rider back (along with The Punisher), so if they choose to reintroduce them they'll probably have a better handle on it. In fact, with Doctor Strange joining the MCU and opening up the mystical/magical side of thing, Ghost Rider seems even more likely.

The Punisher would be a good guest character for one of the Netflixx series as a sort of unwanted ally - someone who shows up to "help" but just ends up killing everyone - then he could show up as part of the team in The Defenders.

I have one somewhere where Ghost Rider, Punisher and Wolverine team up to take on Blackheart and a bunch of demons. Much ass was kicked that day!

That would be cool, and work well with the characters of both as it does in the comics.

I will shortly be picking up one where GR gives his "penitent stare" to Deadpool, and turns back into Johnnie Blaze, and Deadpool now has an uncontrolled flamey eyed stare

Also that image is old. "Serpent Society" was a ruse; it's Civil War but according to the dude, it's "very different from the comic book Civil War". We should all be thankful for that.

Holy cow, yes, that comic was so full of drama and a lack of coherency, it wasn't funny anymore.

I thought House of M / the 198 was kind of bad, honestly. Then we got Civil War and suddenly House of M didn't seem so bad...

thedarkavenger wrote:Hey. It featured Iron Man getting beaten to utter hell. Which is the best thing to ever happen in the Marvel universe ever. If you think otherwise, then you're wrong.

It did also bring several old, old school characters out of the wood works. When was the last time Tigra was in a comic pre-Civil War?

H.B.M.C. wrote:It featured Tony Stark as a mustache-twirling villain. That was the problem. Civil War should have been about competing ideologies. Instead it was just black and white/hero vs villain, and they made former heroes into villains to make that work.

Not just Tony, but Reed (who has always been kind of a tool, but not an evil one) and a few others.

Ahtman wrote:I think he started out a bit less overt, but comics often have trouble with nuance so writers ended up ramping it up.

Actually iirc there was an interview with Millar in which the original idea was that Cap was the bad guy. Iron Man was supposed to be using common sense and consideration and for once Steve Rogers was supposed to be on the wrong side of something, even if unintentionally. It didn't end up working out that way of course as everyone, other writers included, assumed Iron Man was in the wrong and Cap was in the right an ran with it.

Except there is pretty much no universe in which Cap COULD be the bad guy in this. Especially after all the times Mutant Registration was used as a negative plot device; i.e., something that HAD TO BE STOPPED AT ALL COSTS OMG! Suddenly putting a new face on it doesn't change the numerous YEARS of that lesson, especially when entire comics have been devoted to how horrible registration invariably ends up. Days of Future Past being the primest of prime examples.

Also lets be real here. Having Captain Frelling America taken down by the NYPD and FDNY is up there among the worst bits of writing in human history.

Well, I'm sure you'd like a MCU version even more. Ghost Rider + wisecracking + dance routines = WIN!
