Not very. I can link pics but go to the OP. They're pretty crude. Almost perfect for IG...

So...like every portrayal of Nazi armed forces in any other work ever?

Nazis played a pretty big role in WWII. Pretending like they never existed is ridiculously disingenuous.

Hmph... that's... morbid.

Bright Idea Fairy was on a roll that time

From reading the article I don't think it was ever a mass produced set for sale. It was some artist's work, with a few sets ending up in various museums and private art galleries.

Further proving that "modern art" is an insanely nebulous term.

Y'know who else didn't like modern art? Hitler.

(Can you even Godwin a thread that started by talking about Nazi's?)

Everyone deals with it in different ways. Some countries hold memorials and outlaw the symbols (see how far you get with a swastika armband in Germany before the polizei stop you). Others try to forget it all, like neutral happy-place Sweden. Not that odd considering that much of Nazi ideology and race biology was the result of Swedish "research" from the 1920s. They weren't the only ones interested in such ideas but the truth sits particularly badly next to their present humanitarian stance.

It really bothers me that they used skeletons for ALL of the inmates. I mean...wouldn't it have made more sense to use little prisoner black and white striped lego people instead?

Those aren't a real Lego product, they are an artistic piece made by a Polish artist named Zbigniew Libera. In fact, when Lego heard of it, they sued him for it.

Well, then you have the answer to why he used skeletons instead of prisoners, to generate the biggest amount of impact on the viewer.

Yeah, I think it has the opposite effect though. Take zombies for example - most people look at zombies on The Walking Dead and laugh because they're so far from human. They aren't nearly as frightening as the zombies in the beginning scenes of the Dawn of the Dead remake (with Ving Rhames) or 28 Days Later because they're so far from human in their appearance and behaviors.

When you move away from human, you lose a lot of the impact IMO. I would disagree with the artist's choice to use skeletons...I think it misses the point that human suffering is awful because it's human suffering, not just skeleton suffering.

Strange, as pointed out: if portraying an era, all parties are represented typically right? (or at least the primary players).

Sweeping it all away from view even as a child toy prevents even the question being asked of who were Nazis and why they were an issue.

It is a big deal about combating "holocaust denial" and that means it all needs to be seen, every last ugly bit of it.

Next up, we can explore the ethical and moral dilemmas of playing cowboys and Indians. Followed with some religious and political debates.

Frankly, I honestly think that the "artist" just wanted to be "edgy".

Actually the Armor school and Armor units there are moving to Fort Benning GA. Combining the school of Infantry with school of armor and calling it School of something or other. M1 though is to streamline for 40K. I've two unopen box of Panthers I'm debating to chop up and scale it to 40K but I don't play IG unless I go for DKoK

Spikes on helmets were German, I believe (I could be wrong, not a great historian). In any case, WW1, not 2, so not Nazi-themed in the slightest.

I mean look if you were doing a WWII exhibition using Lego, then it'd be ok because the context would be right. But just making a Lego concentration camp is a bit much.

It is all at Benning right now. The schools are all up and running at the Maneuver Center of Excellence. Still working on opening the Armor Museum though (it will be right with the Infantry Museum, which is FANTASTIC!).

They are kind of a mix of German and French. Germans did have spiked Pickelhauben, but the crest on DKOK helmets is pretty clearly influenced by the French Adrian helmet.
