I Thought that kind of looked like a giant spider in a brief shot in the first trailer.

Hmmm more in the second trailer which was good.
I echo cautiously optimistic.
Although "from the producers of Godzilla" is not a good omen.

Not too much, maybe?

I liked the latest USA version of Godzilla - it just needed a bit more...Godzilla, is all!

And when that Godzilla and this King Kong meet up - Godzilla better win a decisive victory this time around!

The new Kong should be good, if that latest trailer is any indication. I enjoyed the recent Godzilla movie very much.

I enjoyed the new (US) Godzilla film as well. The human element was a mixed bag but I enjoyed how it was done like an old Spielberg film with glimpses and hints of the monster(s) until the end.

I have feeling more was shown in this trailer because of feedback from the first trailer had some confused about what the film was about. Sure, we know, but we are better people, what with our love of giant monsters and such.

Honestly? An AT-4 or similar, designed to punch through several inches of steel armor, if you hit him in the head, would likely take him down. In the torso you would likely do a lot of damage which could cause him to bleed out but may not be a quick kill. A .50? Depends on the ammo. Put several into his head and he'll go down, you would likely need a several into his heart or shredding a kidney to take him down, but I have no doubt a .50 would do so. Rounds that can punch through cinder block walls and still take off a guys arm or leg on the back side of the wall, or can punch through any APC/IVF out there are gonna penetrate and do damage. Big issue is doing enough damage quickly enough to stop him. Blowing out his pelvis with a few bursts to reduce his mobility would be a good start.

In order to watch Kaiju movies, one must suspend disbelief. But yea actually any thing that can go through feet of concrete...

I agree, and I love Kaiju movies. I really enjoyed the latest Godzilla even as I cringed at some of the (lack of) tactics the military used.

But I figured an honest attempt at answering the question was worthwhile.

For some reason this looks like a mix of Apocalypse Now and Kaiju movies to me.
Also, the is Will Ferral right?

I didn't see Will Ferrell in the trailer, but I guess I might have missed him?

I did see John C. Reilly though - is that who you're talking about?

I suppose they have been in a few movies together, but I don't often see them getting confused for each other!

They'll be teaming up again for a Holmes/Watson movie too, I think...

Yeah that's what I was kinda thinking. There's a lot of meat to get through but if it's only as strong as normal skin/muscle/flesh modern weapons would tear through it. A lot of vehicle mounted weaponry would probably take him down very quickly. So long as they don't use the "drive/fly straight up to the giant monster" tactic.

I was mainly wondering because King Kong struggled with bi-planes. If it's in a similar world to Godzilla though he'll probably end up being bulletproof.

Hard to think of many movies using actual tactics. Or if one side does the other won't to emphasise how smart they are.

You guys are way off. King Kong can't possibly be made of normal flesh and bone. Look at his skeleton and you'll see nothing like the shock absorbing structures in an Argentinisaurus, so Kong's skeleton's resilience is due to superior material rather than due to superior design. His bones must be like some kind of Bucky tube-steel mesh or something. Now, knowing the square-cube law, if Kong is 100 times the size of a gorilla, then he has 10,000 times the muscle strength but 1,000,000 times the mass (plus whatever his superbones weigh). In order for him to walk and brachiate like a gorilla instead of lying like a pancake, his muscles must be 100 times stronger than a normal gorilla's per square inch. They must be incredibly dense, which only increases his makes and requires even more Herculean musculature. His blood pressure and organ mass probably require super skin to hold it all in.

He's one tough bastard.

Still, Godzilla had better take him out like a punk or I'll lose my suspension of disbelief.

Here is how King Kong V Godzilla would go.
Kong would use his smaller stature to run and hide. and to hit and run attacks. He will climp up to the top of a building at one point and jump on Godzillas faces and claw it. Then a bigger threat emerges, They team up to defeat m King Ghidorah and THEN at the end they look at eachother, Kong Roars and beats his chest while Zilla roars and they go their separate ways.
Boom, just saved yall 7$. you can send what you where gonna spend on it to me.

Where the hell are you seeing movies for $7? Sure the Sterling is gak at the moment, but seeing an A list film is about £10.50.

Costs us $25 each at our local cinema, though that's for recliner seats. Normal seats are still $20 each.

Ours are US$15 per seat, not to mention the two drinks at the bar before, and drinks and food during the movie.

It often costs me roughly 13$ for matinee, an energy drink and a thing of candy at the movie. And that is if I don't sneak in food.

An energy drink during the movie? Why not just rub crushed caffeine tablets directly onto your eyeballs?

Still a better experience than PJ's King Kong.

Probably no reason to start a new thread.

Just saw this. It's the best movie I saw this year - I'd give it a 12/10. Yes, I liked it more than John Wick 2, but thats a different thread.

Yes, there is a post-credits scene.

That's a fair question.

Without spoilers, it's got a great cast. Everyone in it does a great job, but especially Samuel L. Jackson, who of course does the eye-bugging thing several times.

The action is incredible, it's got some legitimate laugh out loud moments without ruining the tone, and it's not a story that tries to be anything other than what it is: a monster movie and a really great one. Well, I think it might also be a parable about American arrogance in Vietnam but lets gloss over that because I am a simple creature with simple pleasures. The point is, this isn't (2014) Godzilla, where you never see the action - you see all of it, and lots of it. Lots of "holy gak" moments. They don't pack in anything extraneous or unnecessary - like, there is no romantic plot arc awkwardly packed in there.

I would call it a much better Pacific Rim, a movie I also liked but which severely hampered by bad plotting and, at times, corny dialogue. If you hated Pacific Rim, you'll probably hate this too.

It's never going to get an oscar, but it's probably my favorite monster movie now.
