First time I've entered this for a few months but feeling good about getting this one painted. Also fits the bill quite nicely for the theme.

Converted the new Grombrindal mini for my Votann army.

I do have vague plans to muck about with the base but that'll come later.

Hey folks.

Haven't been on for a couple months, longer than I hoped (in the middle of moving house)

Manged to find most of my hobby stuff and found something suitable for this months challenge

I'm going to paint up two dreadnought's, I built the primaris one myself and the other was from a job lot on ebay, the blue paint was slightly thick on a few bits so I decided to strip it and prime it.

The necron is there as a plan B should something go terribly wrong with the dreadnoughts (he's just primed silver)

I'll go ahead and enter my Ballistus Dreadnought for this month. Proof:

It's a vast improvement over the chunky box dreads, and is a better scale fit too. I'll probably knock out most of the basic paint today to have it ready for a tournament this weekend, and finish it properly afterwards.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

It’s wild to remember how cool the old dreadnoughts looked to me back in the 90’s, and how silly they look in retrospect.

Heresy! Also completely, objectively wrong! Science proves that old Dreadnoughts are best Dreadnoughts!

Full disclosure, I printed the banner - it was looking a bit dull (printed on adhesive vinyl so I wouldn't have to muck around with glue to attach it, but that stock has a pretty flat matt finish) so I gave it a coat of paint over the main areas of colour, but it's not a freehand paint, if it's not obvious just looking at it.

Formatting to make Nevelon's life easier (hopefully, if I got it right):

A while ago I painted the old generic bolter marine on the left to try out a Deathwatch colour scheme. This month I'll paint the slightly more modern equivalent on the right in a similar (but hopefully better painted) scheme.

Here's after the bases are done but before I paint the glowiness

They are meant to be Plasmonic lifeforms for Stargrave based on Glue sticks cut into a crude skeleton shape and then melted with more glue added for tentacles.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Seeing some cool models in the thread already that I'm very jealous of. Good Luck all

I thought I'd go with the literal interpretation of the theme and do something with OSL and light sources.

I'm going to make a scene I call the "Night Watch"

My original thoughts

How its going (quite well i think)

How do they rise up?

This looks like it's going to be amazing when completed.

To those with glorious completed minis already, madness I cry!

The Dwarves, LT Tycho, the Harlequins and Dredd look superb. Well done!

Everyone with progress so far is looking very nice indeed.

I've put the bulk of the base colours on and started a bit of shading on the Kahl Grombryndal. Not much but progress is progress.

Oh that is so clever! Thank you for sharing, that is an automatic Yoink.
Glue sticks come in different colors too... think of the possibilities!

Progress pic, nearly finished the first dreadnought. I decided to keep it as Ultramarine as the original owner had intended. Not sure about the battle damage I attempted with a tiny piece of sponge, I'm going to try add some more chips with a brush and see if it helps.

Midget Gems - it arleady looks awesome, I can't wait for the final effect.

I will enter with something simple, because this month I want to focus on my model from the Summer Blockbuster challenge.
This not official model, but official concept I present the female custodes:

The model can be downloaded for free here: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/naughties/ecstatic-lady-guardian-of-change.

Struggling about in Asmos territory.

Finished the Beholder so I can finally turn my attention toward the Glottkin again (which I have been basecoat-coloring off and on) for the 3month chal.

Have to admit at first I wonked the lighting as I had the darkest bit on the outside -_-, but after redoing the glow it looks ok to me.
Also made a single 'action version' in which I used photoshop to add some minor effects but you don't have to use it for the voting if its not allowed (and I fully understand)

Not expecting to beat anyone this round but still, hope most peeps here like it.
The reason I chose this floaty bally floatball was because back when I was a little helveine (actually when I was like 20 or so) I played baldurs gate and remember the first boss really wowing me (it was ofcourse an eye tyrant/beholder) as I had never seen such a thing before in any other game.
I've always enjoyed seeing them in later games, like in Ultima online as gazer beholders (which were pretty powerful mind you, especially their elder versions) and ofcourse in Final fantasy as evil eyes (although they are winged instead of hovering through magic power there..)

Anyway here it is, my very own Beholder.. It would be only right to give it a magically inspired name.. I dub it.. "Gir-Immaru" meaning stranger-light in sumerian. (first looked up the sumerian word for lightning but ehh.. that's definately not going to work LOL)

Gir-Immaru the Beholder
crouching down in a damp cave trying to pick up your glasses that had fallen to the ground having been startled by a sudden cold chill.. strangely so for the obsidian flooring giving away imminent rivers of lava all but preventing your descend.. you notice how a rippling pattern of a shadow forms around your own.. and as you turn around ..a crackling envelopes you shooting out from the gigantic living lightbulb hovering in closer.. its size atleast five times a man, It exhales in an elongated hiss empowering its electrifying burst and you tremble and fall from the impact.. certain that your adventure has ended.
"GGGggg...iiiiirr.... Immmmaaaaaaruuuu" It gurgles its name in testament to your demise.. and all turns black.."

Rest in spoilery to reduce load.

99% complete on the Kâhl Grombrindal, just got to add something to the base to finish that off.

EDIT: Hiya Nev this will be my completed photo.

@joshinjapan - bloody hell, that is definitely a glow up. The gold on the headdress in particular is fantastic.

Gotta love an Avatar.

OK, after a brief vacation, got the bases finished and the Dredds are all done.

First, the smaller, older version from Citadel/GW.

Second, slightly newer (price tag said '02), significantly larger version from Foundry.

And together.

The wrong side of the law.

Fun to do. Neat to have in the cabinet. Glad to finally have them done.
