Yep, that's the earliest predator. What weathering powders did you use? Because I really like how it looks. And perhaps the recipe?
Thanks!

Major props on that ork. Is there a highlight on the face as well as a green wash?

He's got it in him to be a great little painter I suspect. Congrats to you for helping him en-route.

Pick out the details... watch for pooling wash... no problemo. We can work on that. I have to admit, I was impressed. I knew he could do this work with me checking over his shoulder... but I didn't know he could do it all on his own. I think the highlights are the result of a couple of layers of wash, first sepia then a dilute Thraka green.

I use AIM powders... nice range of colors, not too expensive.

Pooling wash gives texture to large surface areas. And is considerably easier/faster than the alternative techniques. Not a 100% bad thing.

Do the doom eagles have a sort of air transport vehicle?
I mean besides the thunderhawk, like maybe a Storm Harbinger like vehicle

Well, since we're just building them out of the vanilla codex, no more than any other chapter. I suppose there's always the option to switch affiliation at some point of there was a compelling reason to do so... I just haven't put much thought into it. Thing 1 and I have been discussing insignia and shoulder pads as my own Mantis Warrior project has brought this to the fore. Nothing concrete yet... but we're kicking it around.

Ah, I see.
Have they thought of adding a Grey Knights terminator squad or some WH or IG to the army as allied forces?

That topic has come up with my Mantis Warriors, though not with his doom eagles since he doesn't have the same restrictions on his list that I put on mine. In both cases though, I'm not convinced that taking allies is a long-term solution for the list, or worth spending extra $$ on. I'm not saying "no" out-right... but at this point I'm not willing to invest the time effort and cash in an allied force.

Kids and I are having what is turning out to be a really fun orks vs. space marines game (kids have orks). Got this shot of some special terrain we had for part of the game.

The kids cat, Darwin... can't stand to have them doing something without his being in the middle of it. We actually played two turns like this. We called it "dangerous & impassible" terrain.

If it eats one of MY models the CAT is instakilled... Actually none of our cats show any interest at all in messing with the models... they're not too worried about knocking them over though...

Yep... we'd shoo'd him off twice and he kept plopping down in the same spot. Since he wasn't really interfering with the battle we finally gave up and let him stay.

OK, somebody needs to explain the Creed reference....

Just an update as to what the kids are up to.

Thing 1 has been feverishly working on Marneus Calgar and his body guard. This has been rather humorous as he hasn't washed the figs, so he glues them together, then they fall apart, then he re-glues, it sticks for a while, then falls apart, etc. He'll figure it out eventually. I've been working on pinning Calgar together and am in the hunt for a new head since we think the one that came with the model is rather dumb looking and it won't fit in the recess anyway.

Thing 2 picked up some orks at a swap meet and has been working on painting them. Think I'll have something interesting to post when he's done. None of us have had too much time to work on 40k things lately due to extraneous circumstances, but we are moving forward slowly.

I'm also an older (35) "gaming parent", and you have a very enjoyable blog. I too have been playing since Rogue Trader and recognized the blue terminator plastics from space hulk immediately, even the glue on flamer attachment. Brings back memories.

Cheers,

Creed can give any unit the ability of scout...So theoretically he can sneak a warlord titan behind a bush, or in this case a cat. The whole CREEEEEEEEED thing is what his enemies shout when they realize that door they tried to enter was actually a baneblade.

I used to do similar rules back in my floorhammer days with my dog. My dog would tend to run into the battlefield and any model hit from it suffers an 8 str attack and any terrain disrupted has to remain that way. If any models were caught in that terrain they would have to take a dangerous terrain test to resemble falling.
